"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on TH-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on TH-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

It's also possible that her logic is something like, "If we can shift the conversation to 'Who should replace Biden?' instead of 'Should we replace Biden?' then we are more likely to build momentum into *actually* replacing Biden."
Yes, the energy has to be behind that. If more and more people are coming up front saying that Biden should be replaced then Biden can hold out until hell freezes over or something happens because in the end the "replace energy" will win.

I live in Missouri and WE are writing Marianne Williamson’s name IN on the ballot because she is the only candidate we TRUST.

Well, Harris is the easiest one to slot in. Campaign finance laws wouldn't allow anyone but her (because she's already on the ticket) to use those funds and that infrastructure on day one. Any other replacement would have to spend time building their own campaign infrastructure and then shuffling the Biden campaign funds through a bunch of super PACs to get it into their coffers.
Harris isn't great, but she has the cognitive ability to fulfill the duties of the office, and she is still better than Trump. And she can hit the ground running.

Marianne Williamson has my vote. Honestly, if I had to choose between Biden and Trump with a gun in my head, I would rather eat the bullet. The Democratic Party rejected Bernie for Hillary and lost. Bernie would have defeated Trump. Now we’re further down the road, and they’re still taking us left leaning voters for granted. I would rather have a candidate who can put up a good fight against Trump. If no major change is made, Biden will certainly lose. I’d rather see Williamson be the candidate. Or anybody who has a conscience and the energy to match. Jill Biden should have told her hubby to sit this one out. He served his country well, but he’s not running on all gears anymore.
In fact the democratic party (as in the mass majority of registered dems not the elite establishment delegates and super delegates) voted for and did not reject Bernie. It was the DNC elite that conspired to make sure to give the nomination to Hillary and then to Biden. This is why I am no longer a democrat.
There's no way to know Bernie would have won. Yeah it was messed up how he got pushed but you don't know what the outcome would have been. The anti socialism messaging from the right would have scared a bunch of centrists to the right.

The possibility of Biden being replaced is one of the first times I've seen Dems get excited and hopeful in an election they were dreading and the DNC is apparently looking to nominate Biden early. The base was too happy so we got to quash any hope they have so they will be miserable going into the election where they have to vote for our decreed 82 year old candidate. God even Carville is asking for the DNC to listen to it's voters for once.

Speaking as a Presidential candidate who often finished just after Marianne with no money and no name recognition, it’s our belief that since we put country first over politics, we deserve to be considered. The establishment is going to attempt to dictate who the nominee is. Those nominees put politics over country and are NOT leaders.
Just don’t forget. The Dem power elite would “cut off a right arm” to keep Marianne or Bernie out of the running. I'll be honest. I think Marianne would be one of the few people who would perform worse in a general election than Biden with this little time on the campaign trail. Most people really only know her as the weird crystals lady.

(I'm one of your biggest fans, by the way, but accuracy has never been your strong card.) At 0:05, you say that Marianne "dropped out a while ago, then at one point she was going to jump back in..." In point of fact, she dropped out on Feb 7 (after Nevada), then unsuspended 3 weeks later on Feb 28 (after Michigan) and stayed in the race through the end of the primary season, which ended on June 11. So she wasn't "gonna" jump back in; she DID jump back in, and stayed there through the remainder of the race, but after Nevada, you totally ignored her and, like the MSM, treated her like she didn't exist, even though she was on 39 ballots and ended up garnering a total of just under half a million votes.
Second, you kept affirming that Marianne was in 2nd place after Biden, but that's not true. She was in 3rd place among the candidates and in 4th place if you count "uncommitted" as a contender. Vote totals were: Biden 87%, uncommitted 4.3%, Dean Phillips 3.2%, and Marianne 2.8%.
Third, you keep asserting that brokered conventions are by definition decided by party elites, but in fact the first round of voting at a brokered convention takes place among the 3,979 pledged delegates, which are not precisely party elites. As a result of party reforms instituted after 2016, the 1,991 super-delegates (the true party elites) don't get to weigh in till the second round of voting.
Fourth, when discussing Biden's decisive write-in victory over Marianne in the New Hampshire primary, you completely neglect to mention that that surprising result was purchased for him by tech billionaire Reid Hoffman, who discreetly dropped $2 million to flood the airwaves with pro-Biden propaganda near the end of the campaign.
Fifth, you neglected to consider that one of Marianne's incentives for resuming her campaign might not necessarily be to actually be the nominee, but to have a voice at the convention in order to influence both platform and the candidate selection process. If she could actually manage to gain a speaking slot at the convention (admittedly a long shot), most Americans would be hearing her for the first time since 2020, due to the ruthless media suppression of her 2024 campaign.
There is literally no way MAW can win even if she somehow managed to become the nominee. All polling points to name recognition beeing the number one factor against Trump.

Personally, I think Gretchen Whitmer would be the best possible option. Don't get me wrong, I like Marianne Williamson, but you guys need to understand, she is NOT well liked outside the progressive bubble. I'm around liberals a lot of the time, and there is a pretty strong distaste for her among traditional Dem voters, mostly because of her hippy crystal mom vibes. The Democrats are already making it an uphill battle to replace Biden at all, so we've gotta land on one that's as close to a progressive as possible without turning off a bunch of normie Dems who might still be on the fence about a replacement.
