"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
    “Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on TH-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on TH-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Ben stated that Palestinians are "voluntarily deporting" which means there is no displacement. By his own logic, Jews who had to leave their homes in Eastern Europe and Germany during WWII were definitely not displaced. Make it make sense. How do you have Nazi talking points in 2024?

Palestine started this conflict when rejecting Camp David 2. Or you could say, the Arab Countries were starting this war when preparing before the 6 Day War. But I don't care. Palestine should surrender, free the hostages, accept Isarel as state and eventually get their own state (but not right now, you can't revard them for October 7th attack), they should ally with Israel and become a proper, democratic country. And as long as they reject this, Israel has to fight them sadly. Obviously, a truce is not an option, as the Palestinians have shown on October 7th.

Ben definitely drank the IDF propaganda. This is what happens when people aren't trained to see institutional bias or learn about the historical facts. He is also too old to have the naturally jaded view of governments that young folks have. (Which is not always great since young folks are more susceptible to conspiracies because of it).
And to be fair, Cenk is one of the worst debaters for someone so deep in the kool-aid. Ben literally believes every single strike is justified. You'd need someone who knows all the facts and can debunk them in a calm manner. Cenk is better suited to argue against Grifters who don't actually believe anything. Cenk's ability to scoff at his opponent and talk over them is great for people who don't believe anything and run away from the facts...but not so much against people who have a lot to lose in defending their beliefs.

The Israeli government has gone way too far in their response to the terrorist attack. Criticizing the Israeli government is not the same as criticizing the Israeli people or saying that Israel doesn't have the right to defend itself. I criticized the US government for invading Iraq when they had nothing to do with 9/11 and the lies being told by the Bush Administration. The US has a right to defend itself but that doesn't mean that we have the right to invade a sovereign country for made up reasons and pretend that it had to do with a terrorist attack here. @ActualHonestReporting 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Yuck.
    1. It's not a genocide. 1:04
    - Well, it is. This isn't up for debate. Israel has clearly displayed ticking the boxes of Article 2 in the Convention on the Crime and Punishment of Genocide.
The case before the ICJ is an application for an order of provisional injunction. In practice, this means that even if the ICJ were to rule in favor of South Africa, one cannot on that basis alone say that the ICJ found Israel guilty of genocide. Only that it is more likely than not that Israel is either committing, or is at risk of committing genocide. Part of the conventions purpose is to enable the ICJ to stop situations PRIOR to becoming genocides.
    2. It's Israel defending itself 1:15
    - The United Nations has, on multiple occasions, concluded that both the West Bank and Gaza are under belligerent military occupation. This is despite the Israeli attempt to negate the charge of occupying Gaza by in removing its troops and instead applying Land, Sea & Air blockades. Despite this measure, legal scholars and rapporteurs still conclude Gaza to be under military occupation. Under international law an occupying military power has no right of self defense from violence emerging from territories it occupies. The South African legal team did a brilliant job of cementing this fact at the ICJ, and the Israeli legal team did not address it sufficiently.
    3. Oh woe is me, the Palestinians won't just lay down and die 1:20
    - Interesting that when Palestinians resist the drastically increased level of settler violence and IDF incursions, it is framed as 'terrorism'. I am simply not convinced. The reason I am not convinced is that I do not know what meaningful difference there is between the violence Israel visits on Palestinian civilians vs the violence Hamas visits on Israeli civilians; stacking up the numbers, it seems like the IDF does far more 'terrorism'. As for the rockets, they are economic warfare. Hamas bottle rocket = ~$800 per pop. Iron Dome Missles = ~$20,000-$100,000 per pop.
    4. Accusation in the Mirror gEnOcIdAl HaMaS 1:45
    - Genocide requires intention and capacity. Israel and the IDF have both. Explicitly expressed and implicitly inferred intent, as well as the capacity to conduct genocide. Let's assume for a moment that Hamas had not revised their charter in 2017, and that they still intended the destruction of jews as such. Hamas still does not have the capacity to conduct a genocide against Israelis. This is clearly evident, since Hamas must resort to guerrilla warfare tactics.
    5. Well documented difficult and unique situation 1:51
    - No. Not really. Across multiple reports from independent factfinders and organizations, Hamas has never been found to use human shields. However, the IDF has been found to use human shields on many occasions. From coercing Palestinians to act as literal shields to coercing young Palestinians to sweep building for booby traps and move or open suspicious items for fear of explosives. Now, I will admit, I firmly believed this blood libel against the Palestinians for decades. It seems my sources were the word of Israeli officials, pundits and the popular media which Israel influences greatly. I wouldn't call that "well documented." However, is the situation unique? Not really counter insurgencies and tunnel warfare have been around for a long time. A more realistic interpretation of the unfolding events is that the Israeli government opportunistically decided that October 7th provided them an excuse to accelerate the slow-genocide into a rapid one; sort of like a final solution to the Palestinian issue.
    6. The only democracy in the Middle East 2:29
    - Is it really? I mean, it depends on your definition of democracy. But this notion that being a "democracy" somehow bestows moral superiority is weird. Wasn't the USA considered a democratic country during Jim Crow? How about pre-suffrage? Just strange.
    7. Israel does all these awesome things that no other country does 4:50
    - Yeah. Manufacturing a paper trail as plausible deniability for committing a genocide. Also 2.5 civilians killed per Hamas member killed. I am going to guess that this is the ratio you get if you consider every male Palestinian between 12-99 years of age to be a fighting member of the Al-Qassam Brigade.
    8. Sigh... might have to continue later. I'm not even 5 minutes into this shit.

Palestine started this conflict when rejecting Camp David 2. Or you could say, the Arab Countries were starting this war when preparing before the 6 Day War. But I don't care. As Kyle mentioned Hamas has at least 30,000 members and 2,240 is 7.46% of 30,000.

its actually understandable if you are particularly susceptible to political speak.
For Ben, calling for a genocide while being unable to commit one but "seemingly" trying to (HAMAS) is more of a genocide than a country who has never directly called for a genocide who is currently bombing every opposing city.
In order to prove Israel is commuting a genocide you would need to talk about every datapoint which numerically proves its a genocide.
You could try to convince him that Israel's strikes are indiscriminate but that would require a ton of knowledge and a counter to every IDF statistic he has memorized (Cenk actually let a few statistical lies slip since he doesn't memorize these things) Not to mention he is so steeped in IDF propaganda that even if you did give evidence he would have too check the evidence for himself. Yet it is considered world's largest democracy by the United States. Lots of people in America are homeless and also are starving every single day. @@bahaar2825 Well actually the person you are responding to never said every person in North Korea is starving, and why would they? That would be absurd to say. The late 90’s famine in North Korea is estimated anywhere between a few hundred thousand and over a couple of million. This is out of about 22 million people. At the lowest end of the estimates, this would be as if almost 4 million people in the US died from starvation during a famine. If we go with the upper estimates of the death toll, it would be as if close to 30 million people in the US starved to death. During a single famine. Even today, about 40% of North Koreans are estimated to eat less than their minimum caloric requirements, and at no point since the famine has that estimate dipped below 30%. This does not justify starvation in either the US or India, or anywhere, but starvation and undernourishment is just on a different level in North Korea, and has been for a long time.

Palestine should surrender, free the hostages, accept Isarel as state and eventually get their own state (but not right now, you can't revard them for October 7th attack), they should ally with Israel and become a proper, democratic country. I still can't understand how people who don't live in Israel can continue to think they they should have a say as to what kind of country and government Israel should have, when they don't live there! Have you seen what has been going on in Tel Aviv every week for the past year? Israel has been protesting for their democratic constitution to be rewritten if needed and for a more democratic government going forward, every single week, for the past year! All this was BEFORE what happened on Oct 7!
Why are people just NOW paying attention??
AND.... why are people NOW complaining that Israel is OK being a religious democratic government?? An ethno state? Call it whatever you want! Unless you are an Israeli, why think you can weigh in?? 🙄
(And I don't mean YOU, you literally...)

Kyle, I'm a subscriber of both TYT and Secular Talk. I'm so glad you did a segment on this argument between Jenk and Ben, I watched it LIVE and I could not believe the crazy things that came out of Ben's mouth. There is no defending Israel at this point, facts are facts.

      I am as well.
As a half Jew myself Ben Gleib is embarrassing. What a genocidal maniac. Literally sucks off Israel everyday. He only likes the parts UN that help Israel and gaslights every ruling the UN has ever made against Israel fuck his nonsense.

Is Hamas is hiding among Palestinian civilians? Yes
Did the French resistance hide among Parisians? Yes
Did anyone ever accuse the French resistance of using human shields? I'm guessing no. Why? Because it's ludicrous.
So why does everyone eat this nonsense up about human shields?
Hamas is hiding where they can find shelter just like the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. The Nazis said those Jews were human animals.
      History repeats itself.

I’m Palestinian and I actually used to like Ben but ever since his chaotic views on this situation I’ve really started to dislike every little thing about him. When I hear his voice I just friggin cringe. He’s so wrong on so many different levels it’s insane. I understand he cares about his people I don’t have a problem with that, I have a problem how he expects people to bow down to Israel. How he thinks they are literally doing no wrong. It’s appalling.

I'm a jew, and I agree with everything you said 100% Until people like Ben accept the reality that Netanyahu IS a terrorist, that Israels government IS an apartheid state and the IDF HAS committed horrendous war crimes, there can be no real solution.
We can't find a solution if we can't even agree on the objective reality.
I used to like Ben, until he showed his true self. He is a zionist, and that's a nonstarter for me. Just because I'm a jew doesn't mean I'm going to condone Israel's clear ethno-nationalist proclivities. If any group of people should be sensitive to genocide it should be the jews.
Ben Gleib is a creep, and Biden is absolutely fucking up his reelection chances by condoning the war crimes the Likud are enacting.
