Kit Review: Tamiya 35177 Sturmtiger in 1/35

  • Here is my review of the old Tamiya Sturmtiger kit. This is the first thing I've reviewed that I have built in the past, so that is a bit strange. The tracks need replacing and an upgrade set wouldn't hurt, but if you can get it cheap it's a great base.
Whether or not you should buy this or the AFV Club kit I can't really say. I will be reviewing and comparing that kit soon.

Have a question, flor this variant of "tigen 1" would using buff as a substitute for the dark yellow be more appropriate for when they were used during the later stage of the war. If not xf60 will be what I'll uses. Would like your thoughts. Thanks.

I actually prefer buff with a warm filter afterwards. Check out my Panther painting video. I used buff as 7028

Nicely done once again :) Tamiya just doesn't always have the quality, and quantity, of dragon sometimes does it?

+Modellbau Freak Thanks. It is, it's actually the first kit I'd ever built of a modern Tiger tooling after the 1975 Tamiya Tiger. I was able to build it pretty well then and now I'll be able to take that super detailing route.

Considering the price, not bad....but I know I won't be buying it. I have been thinking about a Brummbär though, to go with my 4502 V that I got recently (review on my channel) and now I need to look through your channel to see if you ever made one of those! ;)

No rubber tracks? Also did the Sturmtiger use Tiger 1 tracks?

AFV club is def much better. I built it in 1:48 and it was just as good. Concidering the price you got it for thats the most I wuld Pay for the Tamiya offering. I wuld even get Italieri or Zvezda before Tamiya. Sprue brothers are asking $45 for the Tamiya kit as of today With missing detail and semi interrior, the AFV club wins in both price around($25-30)and detail of the kit.

+WarWarNeverChanges I agree, I think the only reason I picked this up was because it was so cheap and right in front of me. Now the fact that I've dropped a ton of money on aftermarket for the build is another topic all together. Having built this when I got in to building also had a lot to do with wanting to do the kit justice as well.
Do you have any thoughts on the AFV Club interior upgrade set?

I think it might be worth it, and open it up, quite a good subject to start with I think as far as cut aways goes, sence it has no turret. I wuld go all out or nothing to be honest when it comes to interriors.
