- Here is my review of Dragon's brand new Tiger I kit of a s.Pz.Abt. 501 DAK Tiger. This is a long awaited re-release of the infamously expensive White Box Cyber Hobby DAK Tiger. Not only is the a re-release, but there are quite a few updated parts, making the plastic in this box far superior to that in the old one. However this does have DS tracks and some garbage old OVM tools.
All in all it's a good kit, but it would require some modifying and after-market tracks to make it really sing. So should you choose this or the Rye Field DAK Tiger? Hard to say, that's really up to your personal preference. The Rye Field one is still far less expensive.
Note: I call mantlets cupolas at one point and as always I say tow cable when what I mean is track changing cable. I am aware, and it probably bugs me more than it ever would anyone else. Just thought I'd mention in case someone thinks I don't know what I'm talking about, I do. kind of....

I just went for the Africa Tamiya kit. With more love it still looks outstanding.
I bought this kit two days ago here in Hong Kong, I want to tell you that the accuracy is so high, and it's almost perfect. This is the best Afrika Korps Tiger 1 kit that I have ever bought.

I went and got them MJ miniature 3D clamps for this kinda thing! I have RFMs new Tunisian tiger on order it had to be redone as they had the front wrong with shovel on front so it's even changed box art looks impressive I'm away to start the early 503 231 Tiger with that RAL 6011B code what I'll have to get yet Resedagrun! Maybe mix am early Tunisian DAK with some olive grun and a dunkelgelb and grun to see what's the closest tone I have RFMs early Whitman tank that was out last year full interior I'm getting abitty annoyed with wanting to build a decent tiger but all interior kits just now and wouldn't pay £70 bucks to build a non interior kit! And Friul tracks we got an email to the shop on Friday there saying that's them now stopped supplying to shops in the UK so no more fruil tracks! Must be with Brexit Tax so ebay prices will sky rocket so grab them now if you can! I got 10 boxes
The little plugs are for if you're building a Befehlstiger. They're to seal up the co-axial MG which the Befehlstigers had removed to make room for radio equipment.
Got 2 of these for Christmas. I have so many kits that I really like the fact that the slide molding keeps getting better and better. I love building photo etch but it is so time consuming. Saving the photo etch for certain kits now and going to build more and more o.o.b. Will always use metal barrels and metal tow cables though. People complain about the dml prices and though I understand, the detail on their kits is the best hands down. Got both the rye field kits and they are awesome but the intricate details are still not up to par with dml. I have to say the rye field early production with the full interior is by far one of the, if not the coolest Tiger ever offered by anyone. Going to have to sell my academy tiger with interior now.
your models and knowledge are amazing. you and Andy Hobbies have you gotten me back into building models this time with tanks. I intend to try to build one of every type tiger ones out there as soon as I finish with my jagdtiger so I purchased this exact model after watching your video any advice? I intend to build tiger 112

Great review and critique! What would you recommend as replacements for the tools. That is, to purchase just better tool, not another kit to leach from...?

Really good to see the ‘Dragon first’ with the side fenders (FINALLY!!!) done in four separate pieces (saves taking the tree-felling saw to the one-piece version, right? :-), but disappointing to see Dragon ‘cash-grabbing’ on a flagship offering, with the apparent permanent abandonment of Magic Tracks, NOT re-tooling the OVM tools etc?
Sorry to hear that you’ve clearly succumbed to the inevitable pre-Christmas bugs doing the rounds. But hope you despatch it before all the festivities kick off! My RM 5001 Tiger (without interior) (Xmas present to myself) is due to land tomorrow.... just in time! But will probably wait until 5003 with interior and this latest Dragon stabilise in price (i.e. REDUCE) a bit before jumping in. Plus, I wanna see how the maestro gets on with HIS builds first! Ha ha.
Sure this year HAS been a lot of work for you, Adam, but can only say that there's a lot of folk out here that sure as heck DO really appreciate it.

as always cool review. nice to see one model company trying to get driver's binocular drive ports added. I'll have to scratch them on my rye field tiger full interior kit, don't know why no one adds them? I tried like hell to see how dragon added there's, nothing yet, I'll have to go through your video one sprue at a time to see it. again nice kit and review Adam.

Great Review !, I just got mine today, in fact two of them, I only really have four issues with the Rye Field Tiger I, 1. side fenders, 2, Gun Barrel being to long, Smoke Dischargers and turret mounts, 4. Turret bin, Dragon still is top dog in my book on Tigers even though they do some weird things, I feel if Rye Field will do some quick fixesthey will give Dragon a run for there money at half the price , Just my humble opinion , :)
+Tony Quinn I completely agree. You have to give it to Rye Field though, those tow cables and tracks. Really some great parts in those kits.
adam mann the little plugs next to the mantlet are to seal the co-axail MG for doing a befehlstiger. so this kit has all the spares to do one of them if it also has the pot for the sternantenna :)

I see that the RFM has the decals for them, but....is it the better kit and worth the decals, as you don't have to hunt for them?

You are still saying old kit 652...shouldn't it be 6252????? Or it is a different kit?
