even in 2024 it looks cool. It was the time when your gear was really yours - assemble, disassemble, upgrade, exchange parts without any problems. after 12 years this laptop still works and still pretty capable.
I got one of these as a graduation present. Love it! My only gripes are the lack of an optical drive, and I wish the display was just a tad bit bigger-but those are just tradeoffs for an ultraportable, so I can't really complain. Otherwise, the display is very bright and crisp. The battery life is also excellent, and I love using the pen and the touchscreen! I can hook this bad boy up to the projector at school, use it instead of the whiteboard, and post videos of my lectures for my students.
If you get the docking station, it gives you several multimedia drive options, from a CD-ROM drive to a Blu-Ray DVD Burner (which is expensive LOL).
I bought a docking station for $25 which came with a DVD-Multi Burner in it.
As for new models coming out, it all depends on what you plan do to with the machine. The older ones will do pretty much anything. Newer ones just cost more and in some cases you may or may not get as descent of a processor.
Please make a new version of this.
Just ordered one of these! Cannot wait for it to arrive
how is it now
Yes it can! :) Its great for drawing and stuff like that. There are a lot of videos on youtube showing how it works
In 2019 I took one "dead" X60 Tablet model home from ebay for very little money and got it to work. Even with the small parts for repairs and expensive shipping it's a tablet for the price of an iPad pen. I've put some old Manga Studio software on it and it works great for drawing/painting something I needed it for. My iPad Mini 3 can't do that and finger touch is horrible for drawing/art work.
Also, while I'm here - Lenovo thankyou for continuing to improve on what seems to be a great product. I've not owned an X-series tablet before (just various T series), but now you're offering a seriously powerful package, with a touchpad in the X series tablet I'm very seriously tempted.
I would like to join the chorus for a higer resolution screen tho. With a pressure sensitive digitiser and an i7, this will suit graphic designers very nicely - but more pixels required! ;) - maybe a W version?
@Nelsonpart I would definatly recomend this. I bought the x61 tablet for college almost 4 years ago when I started in engineering. Taking notes this way is definatly the way to go. They are eaisly organized and backed up. My school required tablet pc's for engineers so I have been able to watch how others hold up to college abuse. My lenovo did require service a couple of times but their support is second to none. If you go for a tablet steer clear of fujitsu, they break and overheat frequently.
I've been working on keeping one of these alive. Its been used almost everyday since it was bought. The fan connector on the motherboard finally gave out.
I just done an unboxing myself of the i7 Version of the X220 in my channel too. I'm making heavy use of the USB 3 port for Raw HDMI Capture - amazing such a small laptop is capable of it, and rare for a laptop to connect it's USB 3 port up for native speed. Yay!
Where is the "slice" battery? I do not see it on the Lenovo website (at least not by that name).. Can you use the slice battery with the Ultra Base? Or does the slice go *in* the Ultra Base? Better info on the Lenovo website about the exact differences between the display types would be helpful too. I could not discern which option to choose to have good outdoor viewing (apparently, from this video, it's the option with the Corning Gorilla glass)... THANKS for any help/info!
Does the pen pressure sensitivity work in Adobe Suite applications (e.g. Photoshop) out of the box? There were a lot of issues with that in the X200 and X201.
How does the screen firmly and securely latch to the base in tablet mode -- being that they removed the clasp mechanism?? Thank you...
@LenovoVision
Does the outdoor- gorilla glass support TOUCHING input ? I know it doesn't support multi touch, but can we use one finger to interact without the pen ?
@Tehtog The hdd is a 7mm thick drive. It's not hard to find. You can get a 320gb 7200rpm for about $50.
This is one really professional unboxing and introduction to this PC. It's like the first time I'm seeing a tablet and not feeling like seeing a toy. Is there any other windows tablet pc with features comparable to this one (keyboard, 5 finger touch screen with pen, non-atom based processor etc...) or is this really unique? Is there something even better from Lenovo or someone else or is this really like, the best you can have?
Thanks for any advice.
Can you tell me how tough the regular touch screen on the x220t is? (The one without Gorilla Glass.) Are those regular ones also made of glass too? I read somewhere it's called Infinity Glass, but I don't see anything about it in the TABook.
With the new thinkpad tablet announced this week and that will be on the martket this month, This will be discontinued despite of been just some months on the market?
@darwazeht
You won't be able to upgrade the processor, but you will be able to upgrade the ram and HD. I'm not sure about the WLAN, though.
I would really like to get one of these, but im reading things about new models coming out soon. Should I hold out and wait to see?
Will there be any option for a higher resolution screen? That is kind of a dealbreaker for me.
Would this be a good laptop for college for note taking and general use? I am going to be a engineering major.
Why are the series 3 docks not compatible with the tablet?
@octIII898 3x3 antennae allows for better signal assuming your wireless access point AND wireless card support it. 2x2 is probabily best as 3x3 removes the option for a webcam.
@JCancio12 Yes. The tablet detects your hand and disables the touch capibilities
Is the USB3 bootable (on the core i7 version)? My experience so far is that most systems can not boot items attached to USB 3 (which is a shame).
Would this be a good laptop/tablet for a college student majoring in Business Marketing?
been waiting for 4 weeks now, still didnt receive the machine... even though it says it shipped on the 4th of june...
Hi from where did u buy docking system ... what model name
@LenovoVision
Does All i7 models have USB 3.0 ?
@GauLB66 The hdd is 7mm tall. This limits your selection for SSDs but it also supports mSATA.
@octIII898 3x3 is supposedly better for wireless quality, but if you get 3x3, you cant get a camera. i guess they cant fit both into the structure of the display..
Any estimates on the UK Pricing yet? I'm a computing student, Are there any student discounts through Lenovo UK?
I've asked a few times and got no reply. When will the X220 tablet be available in the UK. All we have available CTO is an awfully priced X201
@LenovoVision Do all X220 Tablets with i7 have USB 3.0?
You know that is my favourite laptop
awesome!
So when is the next Model coming out????? Its a little late and it almost has a year, so i would not like to buy it and a month later the newer one is released. Any ideas?
and please do not ever get rid of the red dot. i am such a huge fan of it which is one of the main reasons I buy thinkpads. once you get used to it, its easier to use than any other pointing device.
Does all outdoor screen come with Gorilla glass? I read from notebookreview forum that one person talked with a sales rep, and was told that the current outdoor screen doesn't come with Gorilla glass. In your TAbook, it does have that option. What to believe? It looks like your's do have Gorilla glass though.
I see you guys gripping the battery like a handle, is it safe/recommended?
@jaureguiramirez its FANTASTIC. the build quality is superb. the IPS screen is fabulous. I'm all praise for this machine. there's more i could say, but lets just leave it at that! :)
I am planning to replace my harddrive with a 750gb 7200 rpm HDD... Does the tablet has a support for it? I ordered i7 model though and it comes with 4GB RAM. Please reply...
When will the UK release be out. We haven't seen ANYTHING yet.
Does this have a SD card slot?
Is it penabled and compatible with wacom styluses?
@Tenfooterpipi It's automatic on i7 models
Is the x220 WACOM penabled?
Does it have a DVD drive?
I am looking to purchase a durable, yet affordable laptop. What has led me to thinkpads is the ability to place the system on a dock rather than have to plug in multiple cables. what would the price of this one be Canadian?
hi, which is the difference???
12.5" Multitouch HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 2x2 Antenna
and
12.5" Multitouch HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 3x3 Antenna
Would someone (from Lenovo perhaps) be kind enough to post a video showing the difference in brightness / glare resistance between the two screen options (multi touch and outdoor). There is another video on youtube showing the difference between the outdoor and non-outdoor display option in an earlier X-series notebook and the difference is huge.
can you use the digitizer and your finger on screen even when it is not converted into Tablet? or does this function only starts with turning the screen?
I have this model, and it seems to work by touching the screen or using the keyboard when its in laptop mode. The touch screen/stylus works in either mode as far as I can tell. The keyboard is of course not usable when in tablet mode as the tablet covers up the keyboard.
When can i expect the release in Germany? Cause everyone expects other releasedates...
@jeusername The gorilla-version is the outdoor version and pen only cause the multitouchlayer causes milky reflections. Am i right Lenovo?
Put some programmable physical keys for table mode!!
What's it like running linux?
@TheGamerzRealm ah i see. but that would void the warranty, yes?
"Much finer degree of control".. I am sure that it meant it is much better than stylus in Ipad- i am tired of it. Am i able to draw engineering designs, at least initial brainstorming with this pen ? I am using T-420s right now, its an awesome machine but i want to switch over to this so that i can take notes in class and perform my drawings .
I want one, but I'm from PERU! When it will be available in my country?
I bought a used one for programming (Java with Netbeans). It comes with Win7 : should I keep it under 7 or move to 10 ? All the laptop is going to be used is PDF reading + Netbeans and Java programming.
Install manjaro.
You could switch to Linux... But with either windows 7 or 10 you should keep windows 7.
Where do I buy it??
Still use mine daily.
hi, there doesn't seem to be any space for a CD/DVD player in the ultrabase, can u add one?
If the ultrabase you found doesn't have the space for a multimedia drive you can always get an external USB model. I have a USB DVD burner which works great on any laptop and its small enough and lightweight enough I can just carry it around in my bag and not really know its there. No external power source needed, just runs off a USB port.
Hi LenovoVision,
If you could make a video comparing the Lenovo Thinkpad tablet that uses Android honeycomb 3.1 and this device, that would be great. Money is not a problem for me, but I would not want to spend unnecessarily. I am still a bit confused as to the pro's and con's of each of the devices, i.e. the thinkpad android honeycomb 3.1 tablet and the thinkpad x220t.
Lenovo: Please let go 7-row keyboard for the ultraportables. some oversized/extra keys are just unnecessary and leave no space for a decent palm rest. this makes prolonged typing and mousing uncomfortable. Also, the weight still needs to be reduced. Get it under 3.5 lbs with the 6 cell batt. and you'll have a serious contender.
I want one, but they're very, very, very much out of my price range. I can imagine it'd be useful, though...
Here's hoping they come down in price in the next year or so.
Is it possible to change the hard drive yourself?
Yes, hard drive access is on the right side, simply remove 1 screw and pull the hard drive out and replace with the one you want to use. Its not made to swap out often, but its certainly a do it yourself replacement.
Nice recycled packaging.:)
@yourtube7733 Are you doubting LENOVO about the specs of a LENOVO laptop?
can you transfer a x61 tablet hard drive to a x230 tablet? please respond.
Yes, you can! Take out the hard drive from the X61T, and put it in the X230T's hard drive slot on the side of the ThinkPad. :)
@darwazeht
Processor: no
Memory: yes
WLAN: Aerials no, you could but would be difficult. Wireless Card yes.
HDD: Yes but it's a 6.5-7mm thick drive. A replacement would be difficult to find.
@ErdbeerKiwiTee Yes
@str0ngbacker Not really. It was always made in china. From what I can see the build quality is the same
Hi,
I already have a thinkpad tablet, i use it everyday almost all day in academic research, i must tell you, is like a copybook, you must support your hand in the book to write, so in the base theres a free space (next ot hte battery) then that means unbalance when i place my hand over that hole under the screen when writing. Hope im wrong!
Picked up one with i5, SSD, 8g ram, win 10 pro and touch screen for $60.
I just got one for $40, i5 (2.5GHz), 4GB RAM, win 10 64bit pro.
I just got mine for $15, i5, 2GB ram, 512gb ssd
Trying to buy one on ebay for 200 with 16 gb and a included dock as well as windows 10
I found one in those recycling bins, no hdd and adapter, put an ssd i had in it and bought a charger, works like a charm.
They swivel the display at 09:00
days since i bought this online: 7
times i've checked the order status online: 274
number of times i've seen this video in anticipation: see the green part of the line below the video?
to me, the only con about the laptop is that the screen is too small
At simple view i can observe a HUGE problem, tha 8 cell battery makes the base unbalanced. Hope i'm not right !
How to insert CD on it
Hey there, Jatin's Piano Tutorials! Thanks for reaching our support! The Lenovo ThinkPad X220t tablet does not come with a built-in DVD ROM drive by default. You need to use a ThinkPad Ultrabase lnv.gy/3q6QZXP (sold seperately) in order for you have a DVD ROM drive. You can check the full specification of the ThinkPad X220t from the user guide lnv.gy/3cIanVc (go to page 30). Let us know if you have any other concern. -Chris_Lenovo
Why is handwriting recognition something that people like? Isn't it just faster to straight out type your words? Seems like novelty to me.
Cool feature that appeal to some, but yes, I'd rather type what I want rather than try and write it...pretty sure any handwriting recognition software wouldn't figure out what I'm writing since my handwriting is terrible LOL.
Your belly is on the table!
LOVE mine, but it's freaking out right now and won't wake up...HELP!!
Have you tried the power button trick? Remove battery, press power button 10 times at 1 second intervals, then press & hold power button for 30 seconds. Put battery back in & try turning on as normal. Some sort of static discharge procedure.

do want
still not available... guys, this is pathetic, at least let us know when the real release date is!
@LenovoVision
Why do you people have so much conflicting information? Is it really that hard to straight out your information?
According to the TAbook.pdf released in April 2, 2011, x220t even with i7 does not have USB 3.0. Where's your source about USB 3.0 support for the i7 models? I know that x220 notebooks have USB 3.0 as option if you have i7, but not the x220t. Please get your act together Lenobo!
"I just got online and chatted with another Sales Rep...Vinny S. He assured me that the Outdoor display was NOT gorilla glass. I challenged him by giving the link to the spec sheet which says that it is gorilla glass. He said that was wrong and that the gorilla glass was not ready yet."

@drewax11 No
man, this is simply a thinkpad-air....
lol he doesn't even know where the power button is straight away..
@xD4v31234567 No
Shit
Trackpad is such a Apple rip off and do they expect people to use one of these with that battery? it would be better to carry a iPad/Xoon and a t420s
The battery life is still annoying.
I usually don't care too much about design, but this is horrible...
Sorry for replying to a 4 year old comment, but ThinkPads generally value(d) function over form.
Congratulations for ..you baby hahaha
