In this Holiday episode we take a look at a X200T "running" on Windows 10. While the hardware is still a performer, depending on the OS you are running, it appears to be one not free of challenges.
Have a story of running one of these? Do you know some of the limitations or how to overcome them? Please post in the comments below!

I have 4 X200T and they work perfect with Windows 10. Just go to: support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds012808 and download the Lenovo System Tools. It will update everything, even the Bios. It will work perfect with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and even Windows Server 2012R2 and you can use Hyper-V to virtualize. Kali Linux works perfect and the special buttons will work also. The docking station for the X200T makes this little laptop perfect!

Thanks for the info, as I've been looking for one to add to my Thinkpad collection, and good to know they work well with Linux. Nothing against Kali, but I'm, a Mint fan myself as it just works, and yes I've used many others over the years but always end up back on Mint Mate, as it just works for me.

For those who care, here is my experience running Gentoo linux on it. The Wacom penabled touchscreen driver for Linux w8001 works without any issues (duh). The touch screen is serial (so just run the inputattach command with the proper options and your beautiful touchscreen is up and running). You have to set up the button actions (like flip screen, etc) but it isn't too difficult because Linux just treats them like any regular button. You can force the pen input to flip with the screen by using a transformation matrix in x11 (just have it run whenever you flip the screen). So overall the set up experience is easy as 1 2 3. :)

Great computer which I bought used in 2011. Currently I'm using mine with a firewire express card to run a Nikon Coolscan 4000 (35mm film scanner). Robust. I had three spillages with it including beer at a house party when I was at university, it's been through airplane check in multiple times and has had two keyboard replacements and it's still working flawlessly. Even the thermal compound seems to be holding up all these years later! Incredibly robust machine! Have a great Chirstmas!

this thing flies with windows 7, it also supports 8GB ram after a bios update. I bought one online on January, a top of the line x200t w/ an SL9600, multitouch with built in 3G modem and usb3 expresscard but strangely no webcam. Just shove an SSD there and this machine will cope up with any core i3 laptop being sold now.

I have one x200t and got it 2 years ago in a good condition. Updated to a SSD drive with an INTEL 240GB, 8GB ram and a base for X200 systems with a DVD drive and a HDD tray to switch between a second hdd or the DVD player. The battery is now 1 year old because i had to buy an original new one. The housing was a bit dirty and after cleaning really all the plastic view was a bit old. Because i'm very familiar with chemical things i build myself a special plastic cleaner and YOUNGER Age Cleaner. It's a special mix and after i used it it looks right out of the box. It can run on gentoo linux, debian, Windows 7 or 10. Windows 10 runs 100% ok with no issues at all. When i got it, updated it and used for around 4 weeks it is a feeling which is better than s*x, haha. It is my coding machine and i can around the house with it to control my decentral I/O's from my PLC system which do the whole home automation. One last update from last week: i got the little special wire which is copnnected on one side at the pen and on the other side on the Laptop. Found a shop who sold that part out. 3 peaces in one original package for around $5. Now it is complete.
An additional update: ... there is a mSata ExpressCard to NVMe Adapter. Looks right wthat we need to mod our X230T a bit more.

I have been waiting for this video and now actually seeing this maching I'm "fangirl-ing", just look at that giant square with all the buttons and that latch, omg that's beautiful; I will definetly have to get one of these for myself. In later 2-in-1s they got rid of the latch and replaced the system with magnets and I have to say from a practical standpoint it is much better but again that latch is just warming my hearth. Thank you for the video and merry christmass!

@@LaptopRetrospective Lenovo has a diagnostics software that will automaticly check and install what software you are missing called "ThinkVantage System Update" you could try that but first things first get rid of Win 10, it just refuses to work with anything and even on later tablets it just makes the experience a nightmare (on multi touch screens it even limits you to 2 inputs even if you devices is capable of handling up to 5 or 8), I would advise the original operating system it came with or at max. a win 7.

The little expansion slot is for turbo ram.... Thw motherboard from the x200 and x200T are different but i found my x200 has all the expansion slots filled while the turbo ram is not present in the X200T... I have the multitouch version! However, my bezel isn't flush like yours, gotta admit it looked modern with flush bezel.
Another thing to note is that the multitouch is not "multi finger touch", it just mean that u can use pen or finger for touching purposes. And the finger touch is not capacitive, it's resistive, so u need to press quite hard or use finger nails for it to register. U won't miss much actually so better use the one with pen only if it's cheaper.

I think so. I bought an x230T about a year ago because I was tired of dealing with Apple products. I would definitely look for i7-i5 cpu versions. I had bought it to basically take with me everywhere and with 16MB of ram and SSD drives it is a terrific small Laptop. I can pretty much do anything I need, writing, spreadsheets, emails, watching video content, and I'm even able to blow stuff up in World of Warships!

Not sure what drivers you installed, but I recommend using Lenovo System Update, and install everything that's missing. Could be a windows 10 issue though, everything works fine for me on Windows 7. As far as linux goes with rotation, you have to make an executable script, then use xbindkeys to assign the rotation/stylus orientation script to the physical button. (At least for my distribution). Here's the Lenovo System Update: support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds012808
Edit: Also, Some models do have accelerometers, for not only orientation of the screen, but for hard drive protection in case the laptop falls it will shut down a HDD.

Is it able to run Windows x64 bit? It's important because I need it to run a x64bit only program. Thank you in advance.

This is an impressive machine, despite its age it has a X64 bit processor and handles windows 10 64bit like a champ.... Just throw in x2 4gb 1333mhz ram and your all set

Can I ask as you're somewhat of a Thinkpad collector do these the X200T use the same battery as the X200 (none tablet)?

      Tablet battery is unique.

No problem. X200 and 201 I do know share the same battery. T series are unique though due to the chassis cut outs being different.

@@LaptopRetrospective I've recently acquired a t41 that I'm planning to run win98se for some old games, however WiFi drivers are not compatible from Lenovo and I have a random usb device that I can't find a driver

Hmmm. Not much experience with those. I'd be tempted to run a Linux live CD to see if the card is behaving properly.

I’m considering selling my shitty iPad Air 2 for this, but as it would be used as a tablet (I have a T420 as my main laptop) it has to run Android. Does anyone know how Android runs on this?
    Thanks in advance.

You'd need to use an emulator of sorts. That's as much as I know.

I know this is a bit late but look up Android x86. It is a build of Android for standard PCs. It should work.
