    I live in north central Texas but my mom's family is from Floyd county, MacDowell. I haven't been back there in 20 yrs. Some of Pikeville looks familiar but NOTHING about the drive does. Wow, it's sooooo much different

    I can only imagine what this little city would look like in the summer. Everything is neat and clean. This could be a vacation destination for those of us who want nature and the quiet life. Homes and businesses were groomed and it is obvious people take pride in what they have.

      The people of Pike County Kentucky take great pride in their part of the world. It is absolutely gorgeous when the mountains are green and the sun is shining.

      Pikeville is a great place, a few RV parks in the general area its a perfect summer getaway type place and its far from being a tourist trap

      I’m from the region. I live in an unincorporated community in the mountains, I think it’s beautiful. Of course it isn’t perfect, hell my holler is just now getting a proper road starting this morning. Most American suburbs probably look really nice compared to these hollers. But to me, heaven is a humble, rolling mountain. And time flows like a creek. You can spend years here and still learn something new, see something new. Every day. I see a lot of things that take my breath away. When the valleys fill with fog or the sun sets on a pink and orange sky it’s like literally being in a painting. It never gets old. Spring is amazing, redbuds and dogwoods blooming. We usually have to drive like a half-hour to an hour to places like Pikeville for events, shopping, restaurants and appointments. It’s not like we take trips out everyday haha that’d be expensive. But on those occasions, we like to treat ourselves by eating out (that’s how I learned A&W made hamburgers). Out of all the businesses there I think Hobby Lobby sticks out in my mind the most, because I’ve been there a lot. The one near the Walmart.

    If Pikeville can properly tap into the UTV/ATV off-road market like neighboring West Virginia has done, it would certainly boom.

    • @dashcamtravelsusa
      @dashcamtravelsusa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. West Virginia has done a great job with the Hatfield and McCoy Trail and drawn a lot of visitors to Southern West Virginia that most likely would not have chosen to visit the area. No reason why Pike County couldn't do the same.

    They turned the river into a giant cannel...

    • @dashcamtravelsusa
      @dashcamtravelsusa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only part of it. The old riverbed downtown was filled in and is where the Appalachian Wireless Arena and the Riverfill Cinemas are located. The other parts were made into ponds, as they still had to drain the creeks like Little Chloe Creek and Ferguson Creek which now found themselves with no river to drain into. Thanks for watching!!!!

    I'm looking for a cheap, safe place to retire. Have been looking online at northern GA and across the border to SC. KY looks nice and seems a bit cheaper for someone on a fixed income. Might want a part time job for extra money. Colder in winter though. Very helpful video as I didn't know what to expect.

      I live right in Pikeville. We still have common sense and some morals here. If I’m hopeless then I love it. Takes a sorry human being to say a place (which consists of people) is “hopeless”.
