      I like the purple one. I have the teal one, and it is challenging. The handle on the teal is flimsy, and it will stick. It will not hold a 15 - or 17-inch laptop... i actually own the teal, so I can be honest.. I would definitely say that the purple one would be the one I would want and be a go too..

      I have the American Tourister. Just came back from a 5 day 4 night trip where it was the only bag I used. There was no problem with it being a personal size item and I was able to keep it with me on a smaller regional jet where carry on size bags had to be checked. It fit everything I needed with room to spare. I have no complaints.

    Hubby and I each have an American Tourister underseater. We used them recently as our only luggage for a five day four night trip (we did not use any other tote bags/duffle bags/backpacks; I did have a small crossbody purse). I am a petite female and it held everything I needed just fine. Packing for hubby took a little more finessing, but we did get it all in. They fit under the seats on our AA flight with no problem and we were allowed to put them in the overhead bin on a small commuter flight where other passengers had their carry ons gate checked. No problems pulling them through airport terminals or the parking garage. At the time I bought ours, Amazon only had the AT in pink, but Kohls had it on sale in black and I was able to use Kohls cash toward the purchase price.

    The underseat pro has square corners which do not lose any of the allowed space which is nice. But, the handle demo sold me! I have been looking for an 18 inch "suitcase" on wheels as opposed to a backpack. This one seems to fill the bill. I also like all the pockets, the huge laptop possibilities, and the collapsible properties. I would love to see this same bag fully packed with a capsule wardrobe, just to see the wardrobe in action in this bag. Thanks so much for another super-review.

    I would go with the Underseat Pro. I have owned a number of American Touristers and can say those suckers hold up well. We used them for our scuba gear and they were packed to the gills, thrown around in many not so great airports. We actually had a leak in our basement where they were stored and while the stuff in them was ruined since we didn't know about the leak for months, the bags were fine. I think in the case of the non-underseat pros, not using the packing cubes may have given you more space to work with since you can squish things a little more without them. It would have been a pain but you could probably take the actual liquids out of the toiletry bag and put them in a zip lock with a little more give and stuff them in one of those outside side pocket and the umbrella would probably have fit in the other one on the London Fog. Some of the things in the cubes might have fit in those inside pockets. As I said, a pain but if it was all you had, you could probably have made it all fit.

    Great video with excellent comparisons! I have used bags similar to the London fog - I use the clear inside pockets for face wipes, feminine products, underwear and the side pockets for flat sandals. I don’t have a laptop so it’s not an issue. I could probably used the American tourist ear. I love the underseat pro but find that bags with that east-west configuration don’t roll down the aisles of airplanes easily without bumping into seats or getting stuck, unlike the narrower north-south styles.

  • @one.bag.nation

    UNDERSEAT PRO all the way! You can’t beat the well-thought-out design and the price. Thank you, Lauren, for this video - I mean, it’s perfect! Packing EXACTLY the same thing in both bags?? Genius 👏👏👏. Although, I have to admit, the London Fog looks better, fancier, but I wouldn’t sacrifice the space and useful features of the UNDERSEAT PRO for the looks of the London Fog.

    I have the American Tourister Underseater in the same blue you have there. Haven't ever used the Pro, so can't really make a personal comparison, but it looks fantastic. I have not been disappointed by the American Tourister in the several times I've used it. I am able to fit loads into it, including my handbag, and it fit under the seat in both first class and coach without an issue. I got it on recommendation from an instagrammer I follow. If I knew of the Pro, I might have investigated it too, but your channel is the first I've seen of it. We fly a couple of times a year to visit out of state kids and grands, and the last time I was able to get by with only using the Underseater and my regular carry-on suitcase for a week's worth of travel. Lauren is so thorough!. I love how she reviews and gives honest opinions. I will tell that I own 2 of the 3 bags. Here is my take. The London Fog is truly a weekender. Not for airplane travel UNLESS you are using for a child.
    The Samsonite extremely tight squeeze for 3 to 4 day travel. Yes both fit underneath the seat with leg room, but you MUST be a strategic packer.
    The 3rd bag I feel will meet my needs. I actually have the Made By Design under the seat back pack ... It is great just NO wheels. So now I know what I will be getting for that perfect under the seat experience!!! A huge thank you for the review and link.

    I have a similar lay out (different print) London Fog bag that's about 8 years old (ish). I paid around $70 at TJM or Marshalls. I've only travelled with it for air travel twice. I recently purchased Take Off but haven't used it yet. The Underseat Pro looks like a great option but it wasn't available in the purple when I was ready to buy. For me, I think it comes down to spinner wheels Vs a tiny bit of more space. Great review !

      Thank you. I went over this at the end of the video, but I don’t plan on reviewing any other underseater on wheels unless something compares to this one or take off. The Underseat pro and TakeOff have the most room, and the eBags smaller and heavier, making it something not as worth while for me to review.

    The UNDERSETAT PRO is a no-brainer! But why didn't you test the American Tourister and the London Fog at the airport's sizer bins? 😞 It seems that the American Tourister is wider at the base. I doubt it would fit inside the Frontier Airline's sizer bin. Thank you for another great video Lauren!

      I flew spirit with the American Tourister and had no problem.
      This year flew with Frontier with the American Tourister my outbound no problem. On my return the agent at before you board said it didn’t fit in sizer. I said it fit when I tried it when I checked in. Are the sizers a different size when ready to board plane ?? She didn’t like that. I argued with her. I said I flew out and didn’t have a problem and that at check in I didn’t even have to push it down. Why when I come up to board it has to be pushed down. But it still fits. I DID NOT PAY THE $99. I said I know you get a commission of $10 for everyone you make pay. I’m not paying. She wanted me to shut up so she let me on the plane.
      The London Fog. Does NOT fit Frontiers sizer no matter how you put it in. I even tried upside down. Had to pay. It’s getting returned.

    The Underseat Pro seems like the better option, but I’ve read in the reviews that Frontier will charge you for it just because the handle is a little taller than the rest of the bag (which is stupid). 😐 I bought the American Tourister for peace of mind because I often fly Frontier. I heard even if you over-stuff it, it always slides in, and since it fits sideways, the straps don’t stick out.

    • @ItsTheKellys

    I just love Saturday mornings with Lauren!
    I think I may have missed your original review of the UnderseatPro. I like that it is clean and sleek and perfect for personal item only budget airlines.
    I think people still lean towards London Fog because of the prestige and quality their luggage and clothing once held. But every London Fog bag I’ve seen in store for the past decade has been plasticky and cheaply made. Companies are bought out or merge and the quality can change, and I think this is a prime example.
    Personally, I don’t like wheels and telescoping handle because I don’t want to lug my luggage (clunk, clunk, clunk) and the handles and wheels take up so much interior space. To me, nothing in a personal item size should be so heavy you need wheels. BUT, if I were to choose from the three, I would definitely choose the Underseat Pro!
    Great comparison, Lauren!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Yes I’ve only been introduced to London Fog since starting my travel 8 years ago and I haven’t been impressed. I realize the goal isn’t to fit the most, but if someone were to do personal item only (and not a backpack) the underseat pro is the obvious choice I think :)

    • @IntriguedLioness
      @IntriguedLioness ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t I own a piece of London Fog from previous decades, but I have seen a couple that my friends owned. I would guess they were at least 20 years old and both of them had leather trim, really great stitching, durable, handles, etc.
      Years ago I did purchase a Hartmann cabin bag and it was the same with leather trim, etc. Hartman has basically died out but the last time I did see a piece in a department store it was also very plasticky. Samsonite purchased Hartman in 2012 and I suppose that is was then the quality dipped. I held my breath when Samsonite purchased Tumi in 2016 but Tumi seems to have retained its quality, other than the fact that they now produce a higher percentage of low end, polycarbonate luggage. I have nothing against Samsonite and even own a few pieces but after their acquisition of these two brands I did notice a sad change in quality. 😢

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve heard the opposite about Tumi, at least in my snobby mikes Facebook groups 😂😂 but I can’t compare, as I’ve never had one. But I did look at them in the store and was like “this is it?!” Although I feel the same about Rimowa, where they say “oh all the scratches and dents it gets means you’ve traveled with it”…

    That Underseat Pro looks amazing! Would you consider reviewing the Pacsafe Citysafe CX backpack? I used it as an underseat personal item on a trip recently and loved it. I also used it daily on my trip as my daypack/purse and appreciated the anti-theft features. I’m hoping its size will be passable to use as a personal item on an international trip too. What are your thoughts on that bag?

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely looks cool and I’d love to review it, but not all companies are willing to send one for a review. I like that it’s a travel backpack and good day pack :)

For demonstration purposes, you should have made a packing list to show us what you could actually pack in the bags. For me the winner is the Underseat pro!

    • @ItsTheKellys
      @ItsTheKellys  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      One was a regular packing cube and 2 were compression cubes. I despise compression bags because of wrinkles and due to having to compress and uncompress them everytime I move to a new hotel (every 2-3 days)
      Anyway…
      I had 4 xxl women’s shirts and 2 size 18 shorts and in each of the gonex compression cubes.
      3 men’s underwear, 3 women’s underwear and a swimsuit for each in the tripped travel gear compression cubes
      And 2 size xxl dresses, 3 3xl men’s polos and 2 pairs of men’s shorts in each of the eBags medium cubes.
      I cut out what I put in the cubes so that I didn’t make a 30 minute video. The original video uncut was over 60 minutes long and I think I actually packed a crap ton considering I packed for myself and my husband in only a personal item.

      I use the top mesh pocket to store my snacks. The compression straps do an excellent job compressing the contents of the suitcase while leaving 'pockets' of space around the edges of the bag. I can easily access my snacks just by unzipping the lid and reaching into the bag with my hand. I only take granola bars, nuts, and Graham crackers as snacks, as they don't take up much space.

      I was also trying to choose between the two and made the decision to get both. I plan to use the take off for regional jets with small overhead room. Take off will be my personal item and ebags backpack will go in overhead. That way I can utilize the pockets in the backpack on those trips since take off doesn’t have any. I will use the Underseat pro on flights that only give you a free personal item allotment mainly because I want to maximize space but also really want pocket functionality on such trips.

    • @one.bag.nation
      @one.bag.nation ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kimmie_s Your strategy seems well thought out. Utilizing the Take Off as a personal item for regional jets with limited overhead room and putting the eBags backpack in the overhead compartment is a smart approach. The additional pockets in the backpack will surely prove advantageous, given the Take Off's lack of them. That’s why I prefer the Underseat Pro suitcase as my personal item. I can reach my snacks, water bottle, earphones, and even my iPad without the need to fully open the suitcase. You simply can’t do that with a hard-shell suitcase.
      Your choice to use the Underseat Pro for flights that only offer a free personal item allowance is a decision I can personally relate to! I understand the need to maximize space and appreciate the pocket functionality for easy access that the Underseat Pro offers on such trips

      @@ItsTheKellys
      TLDR Version:
      It's VERY GOOD (for the right person). But, does it fit as much as the under seat pro you just reviewed? I'm not sure it does.
      It’s a tough call to be honest. I’ve used it on just over sixty flights in a two year span making the price per use to be well under $5. For quality well designed luggage I feel like that’s a good price point. Of course if I continued to use it then it would get even cheaper.
      At it sits now it’s in “like new condition” which is amazing. It’s been through rain, snow, hail, a hurricane and every ground you can imagine. I have wiped it down a few times just with a damp cloth and water and it’s in great condition. I’ve never once had issues with the zippers and the mesh webbing has not ripped. The two accessory pouches are meh. I used them a bit but moved back to my electronics pouch and toiletry pouch. The clear plastic on the toiletry pouch has become pretty distressed but is not yellow telling me it’s not cheap plastic. I’m sure the electronics pouch would work for most, I’m just picky.
      The two big interior pockets are certainly big enough to fit a full outfit. Jeans, t-shirt, shoes and underwear was no issue. I do use the ebags packing cube and the med is an ok fit, I also have used the small trip to travel gear compression cubes and two fit VERY nicely on one side with more room to spare. Shoes get kind of tight but I can make them fit. I love the laptop and tablet sleeves and the location of them. I also love the interior water bottle/umbrella spot (it does eat into the main section of the bag). I also like like the dedicated organizational pocket, it’s functional for me. The arm strap is nice, long, and comfortable.
      That being said, as I’ve eluded to…do I still use it? No. I was able to “upgrade” from my travel pro maxlite and my Nomad Lane to a Tumi Alpha Continental Carry On and the matching Tumi Alpha Brief Backpack. Because they complement each other and were designed to be used together I’ve used these pieces for over a year now and haven’t looked back. That being said I know for a fact that neither the continental or the brief backpack would qualify as a carry on and a personal item for an ULCC. I fly mostly jetBlue and American, eventually going to move to Delta for the long term.
      I can say that the Nomad Lane “can” fit on an E145 under the seat, but it’s a TIGHT fit. And it’s possible an FA would say it’s a no go because it’s that tight. I personally cannot speak to it qualifying as a personal item for an ULCC. I know it fits under the following planes: A321TransCon, A321neo, A321LR, A321, A320, A220, A319 V1&V2, B737 - 800, B737 MAX, B777 - 200, B777 - 300ER, CRJ - 900, E190, and of course the aforementioned E145
      I hope Nomad Lane gets to you though! I recently have come across your channel and I love the REALISTIC look you give into packing and the reviews on items has been really in depth! If you would cover shipping to you and back to me I’d be happy to send the bag to you for review. No pressure if it’s a no go, totally understand. Keep up the great work!

      I love this bag for the idea of traveling personal item only, but frontier is absolutely insane. Literally if you even have a strap hanging out of the bin, even if your bag is ridiculously small, they will still make you pay. So anything with that airline is a risk unfortunately. It’s not about the bag being too big, it’s about them wanting to make money, unfortunately.

Had to sit in the middle because it would only fit under the middle seat. It was a full flight, and I already had my carry on up in the overhead bin. So I guess it depends on the plane type.
