    I just realized that at the 1:28 mark, it says 13.5 lbs *6.07 kg)... to be clear, that's with my luggage already packed with just business travel clothes and toiletries - that is *NOT* the weight of the empty luggage, lol The weight of the luggage itself is just over 7 lbs (3.2 kg)

    After 20 years of business travel my go to bag I found was at the end of my career. My advise or requirements for a carry on, fix shell (non-expandable), sub 20” and a fixed aluminum frame meaning no zipper. IMO, the standard 21” carry on will only fit overhead compartments 75% of the time especially on a full flight, looking for space. My go to was a short run Delsey, labeled 18” spinner. The metal frame no zipper closure makes for the quickest opening and closing when you need to access the contents on the fly like at TSA. You never want to have to fight a zipper on a stuffed bag in a hurry. A sub 20” is almost guaranteed to fit the overhead on regular commercial flights, and 50% of the time it will actually fit in local commuter flight common on the east coast. I’d never ever consider a 21” as a carry on. Especially if it expandable or not a hard case. None of my electronic are ever on the carry on and that what a underseat bag is for. Sadly Delsey only made this bag for like a season and for me it’s a total god send. As to why it’s so difficult to find a true sub 20” carry on, is beyond me.

    For hard shell luggage I have used Rimowa for about 15 years now. Apart from the obvious dents and scratches (it's not a bug, it's a feature) my most travelled Rimowa had one rivet replaced. No other issues to report. The downside is that the baddies realize it's expansive which can be a serious issue depending on the place you are going.

    • @MauriceMoves
      @MauriceMoves  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      Haha... I prefer not to catch the eye of anyone when I travel, so that, in and of itself, despite being funny, is a real consideration. Don't know if you mean baddies like 💃or baddies like 🥷, but either way, I try to keep a low profile to not stick out lol. And one single rivet over 15 years is a fantastic track record in my opinion.

    I have 2 different travel ‘systems’ depending on where we are going - An Osprey Farpoint 40, daypack and waist pack
    - A Samsonite Pro-DLX carry on case, laptop backpack and cross body bag

I have never had nice hard shell luggage and I have to say they are so worth it. I’m glad to see you like them just as much as I do and that they stand the test of time durability wise! I've used the Monos Hybrid Carry-On for a couple years now and absolutely love it. The body is a nice polycarbonate shell and it has anodized aluminum corner guards. The main selling point for me was it has absolutely no zippers. The frame is all aluminum and it is held closed by two TSA Locks. A ton of storage just like their normal carry-on as well. It doesn't have the laptop area like the Carry-On pro but if I bring my laptop it just goes in my backpack like my tablet.

    Went on Moment website to check if their Carry-On model is compatible with Ryanair (had a problem with them on my recent flight). On the website they say “Yes”, but upon checking, Carry-On model exterior size is 22x14x9 while Ryanair specs are 21.6x15.7x7.8 (55x40x20 cm)

      Thanks for sharing this. Sorry to hear of your experience on your recent flight with Ryanair... just hope it didn't end up costing you more money and headache with forced check-in being SO close to their regulated size. Again, thanks for sharing, since it serves as a reminder to me that even IF a website claims their pieces are compliant, it's still important for me to go to the airline's website to validate when I travel with a new carrier.

    I'm kind of a diehard North Face Base Camp Duffel in size Small with packing cubes kinda guy - but some comments on this review for people who prefer or need a roller (like your Mom!), here's my thoughts:
    The accordion front pocket only seems valuable if the intention is only to bring one bag, and you're not doing a typical business trip. By this I mean, I often travel for work and use the hotel as my base, where the NF Duffle stays. My personal item, a Fjallraven Raven 20L backpack that holds my laptop, iPad, Kindle and more on the plane, is what I take into the office.
    I can't see a place where I'd be carting the roller into the office daily just to safely transport my laptop, and if I'm using this roller + a backpack for my laptop, why upgrade to the "Pro" model?
    Of course, this might be better suited for travel trips, but again, I'd still prefer to have some sort of day pack (sling at minimum or backpack). I guess some people might pack a lightweight backpack inside this roller?
    I'm likely overthinking this, but I think the problem I have with rollers is that they try to do to much and be too many things. In this case, that front panel is clearly for tech, and while a lightweight rain shell would fit in there, it would be a significant cost upgrade for a what if scenario vs the standard model.

    Based on this video and doing some extra research I got my wife the Monos Carry-On Pro before her trip to Australia in a few weeks. She hasn't even used it yet and she loves it. She had wanted a hard-shell but was wanting an outside pocket which isn't a common thing on most brands. After looking at the selections at Target (we just happened to be there) I told we need to spend some real money on something dependable....and I had just seen this video.

    ❤❤❤...Really enjoy your CLEAR & CONCISE content. As a frequent traveler, I've had to rethink packing. It's been an ever evolving journey, and it really does take time getting an individual's system down pat. Currently own both Rimowa Int'l carry-on and Samsonite. I've found I've gone back to the Samsonite as it is lighter, has handles in the correct places to effect safe overhead lifting and is soft-sided (best for US one-bag packing, too big for international carriers). After having suffered a serious shoulder injury, I had to stop using a backpack and am now rethinking that "personal item" and it's ease of carry with one arm through the world's airports / as well as the reality of checking bags that somehow mysteriously get delayed or lost at least 60% of the time. It would make sense for my personal item to have wheels...but it's that combined carry-on weight issue that rears its ugly head more often than not these days. I heard your comment about your Mother...how does she handle the "personal item"? I've currently paired waaaaay down to a very small lightweight crossbody bag. Thank you again and please stay safe on your travels to Asia!...Edit: Hope your Mom is doing better. Just watched your video on packing for 2 in one bag. EXCELLENT video!

    • @MauriceMoves
      @MauriceMoves  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's interesting - many folks I meet at airport lounges all seem to mirror preferring Samsonite over Rimowa. Sorry to hear about your shoulder injury - it's crazy how we take mobility for granted and when something big happens, the lack of mobility is all we can notice for a long while. My mother's personal item (though unsatisfying) is just a small purse, haha. She is, after all, an older lady with little tech needs - her passport, wallet, kleenex, and portable garbage bag are all she really needs, so it's definitely both very small and very lightweight.

    I just swapped from a travel pro professional spinner to the smaller monos carry on non pro. It amazes me how much more space I have to pack since the monos is a full rectangle and the travel pro is a wedge. I finally see how people can pack as much as they can in the hard shells. Also love my peak designs packing cubes. Wouldn’t trade them for anything! Love that the small and medium fit in one side and I have enough clothes for a week of travel with room on the opposite side for anything else.

    I'm so over clamshell bags. But I dont want the standard soft sided bags. So i ordered one of the few hard shell bags that have the old school top-open lid. Which means , everything is packed on one side of the bag only and the other side is just the lid. Opening up the heavy sides is just something I'm not into anymore even if i have to sacrifice some bells and whistles. Although they do have a version with a lap top opening if that's one of your priorities.

    Hi, I just discovered your experience through a detailed view of travel suitcases video. Everyone focused on how critical all the wheels were made and designed. Let me share my thoughts. I go to Japan frequently. Drugging, large or small suitcases in public is the main event in Japan. Yes, I agree that excellent wheels are essential. But, there are yellow rounded raised braille blocks in every train station in Japan. They are designed to help blind people and have a safety purpose for the yellow line for everyone when the train is approaching. As far as my experience goes, on many trips in Japan, all the suitcases' wheels lose control, and I am very annoyed to go through this. I saw a suitcase in Japan that had cushion wheels that made people easily overcome any bumps and dips on the surface without frustration pulling their suitcases. I do not know that brand name. I hope any suitcase manufacturer develops wheels like air suspension for vehicles, guaranteeing your suitcase will pull smoothly regardless of surface condition in public.

    Those Monos luggage pieces sure look nice and high quality. I tried to purchase one but living in Mexico made the shipping fee more expensive than the suitcase itself 😂 Even with a 20% they very generously offered the price was unaffordable for me. I ended up buying a local brand (fabricated in China though) sporting a design and materials eerily similar to the Away brand. Makrolon on the outside, Hinomoto silent wheels. In the end I got a good deal I guess.

It comes with a regular carry on, check in medium, and check in large.... all for 200$. And they have been great so far, i used them on multiple trips. So why are suitcases like this more expensive? Whats better about them?

    Victorinox Spectre 3.0, a bit more expensive but crosses out your last critic points.

    why is it so heavy (when empty)? just earlier today i saw a swivel wheeled cabin bag for usd$30.00. ok it wasn't as fancy but it was 3.75lbs lighter than this one. that's 3.75lbs of my stuff i can take with me, spare shoes/ extra outfit or something. (i think I'll go with one of the super cheapo ones. sure they're not made to the same high standards but they're going to last several trips)

    Maurice, I see lots of hate and discourse over using the Pakt Travel backpack V2 on reddit onebag. Is it tough to get the bag down in weight for carry on for a 14 day trip so we dont have to check it in? I'm torn between that and the Aer Travel Pack 3 for a 14 day Japan trip and fell into the rabbit hole of onebag travel and love the idea.

      @JH-pq6dm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From my research those two are very similar in price and weight, they're both very sturdy and heavy (when empty). I think you need to figure out what you would bring on a trip, and how heavy your gear is before choose a backpack.

    • @asianspec
      @asianspec 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For me, since mostly airlines have one carry on and one personal bag onboard. I've always have a foldable backpack like a matador on grid 16L that can be used just in case I need an extra bag to lower weight on my pakt. Yes it's not one bag but still compact enough to get you out of those situations and adds options later

    • @KingCxle
      @KingCxle 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JH-pq6dm That is great advice, thanks! I will definitely have to plan that out a little more than the initial thought. Gear weight is definitely unknown currently and would help with that decision I think

    • @KingCxle
      @KingCxle 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@asianspec That sounds like a fantastic option to help out. I'll definitely have to look into how much my gear weighs and plan a little more before settling on a bag perhaps.

    Using Rimowa as the “standard” for price comparison is misguided. Rimowa is an LVMH luxury brand. Sure the quality is fine, but a big part of what you’re paying for is the brand. So your argument doesn’t really land when you suggest Monos provides excellent value since it is a third of the price of Rimowa…

    Dude, been watching some of your EDC videos, and I like the conciseness you put in to your content. I do have one question though, is it just me, or are the animated shlongs at the end intentional? 🧐

  • @yeeisme
    @yeeisme 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I’m not sure about the additional luggage for “goodies”. Especially from Japan I’ve never had issues using the post office to ship items back to myself. I just budget in about $100 for shipping fees and only my most important items I will keep on me.
    I do concede that a lot of my work has me shipping internationally so I am more familiar with the process then an average person, but it’s not much of an issue as long as you read the fields and keep receipts.

    Monos Buyer Beware: Scratches on Luggage
    Be cautious when purchasing this luggage, as it is highly prone to scratches. After just a one-week trip without checking it in, I found scratches all over the surface. Additionally, the 100-day trial period only allows for the luggage to be inspected or tested in your living room. Please pay close attention to the fine print before making a decision.
