- Let's talk about Yay's and Nay's of travel gear I've bought over the last four years! In today's video we're cleaning out my office closet and figuring out what travel gear essentials to keep and which to donate. From suitcases to make up brush holders, we'll decide what still gets used on most of my travels and what no longer brings me joy. My son has a Level 8 bag. Very nice
When I return from a trip I immediately restock my travel toiletries bag and keep it ready to go. Very handy for impromptu overnight stays or emergency hospital stays.
I had a travel pillow that I never used, but since it had a removable center I''m going to fill it with extra clothes to take with me.
I packed a small puffer coat in mine. Worked like a charm!

I actually specifically bought a neck pillow with a zipper so that I could take out the insert and fill with all my under garments. Airlines do not count this as carry on luggage and this saves valuable space in your carry on.
Instead of a blanket I bring an oversized scarf. Works on the plane as a blanket but can also use during the trip as a scarf or bathing suit cover up.

I find a large two gallon ziplock bag and cut up laundry soap sheets take up next to no room in my bag and are useful for washing clothes, especially in Europe, where the sinks can be really tiny. I also got rid of my folding water bottle and replaced it with a smaller water bottle that I can use for water/coffee/tea. It has a handle that I can clip into the water bottle sleeve on my backpack, which keeps it super secure. And Trader Joe’s sells silicone food baggies - three assorted sized for about $10. The zip closure is a lot smoother than others I’ve found. I put all of my travel essentials I’ll need for the flight in it - headphones, chapstick, lotion, earplugs, charging cables, hand sanitizer, wipes, etc. I keep it next to my hip during my flight, readily accessible, although you can put it into the seat back pocket. No more leaning over, digging through my backpack trying to find something. It’s the first thing I pull out (along with my iPad) Best change to my flying routine I’ve made.

I use alot of freezer ziplock bags. Can see what is inside and you can tuck in any open space in suitcase.

Same here. When I fly I usually fly alone or with my sister. I just pack a backpack. When I'm with my husband, we always drive because we like to do road trips, so we tend to pack more.
Someplaces sell yoga gloves and socks. There is a rubber type bottom to prevent slipping . Easy and minimal to carry.
Your wash bag could also be used as a dry bag if you take water excursions. We take snorkel trips all the time and take it out on the boat to keep our towel and phone and other belongings dry.
Vice versa will work too. You can use the dry bag she uses for her adventures as a bag for washing clothes 😉😀

@@sommerblume11the difference is the built-in washboard of the Scrubba. I keep mine because it takes up little space and I also use it aa a dirty laundry bag. As I camp during my European trips, it is always used for doing laundry. Plus I share it with other folks.
You could use the brush holder for pens/pencils or charging cables too 😁
I take a few metal coat hangers (from the dry cleaners) when I travel. Great if not enough hangers in the room. Also use to hang wet clothes in the bathroom if I’ve washed some things. Also bring a few clothes pegs to hang small items on the coat hanger. Being flexible can turn the hook to fit anywhere. Then just leave behind when coming home.
I thought I am the only one that brings a couple of cloth hangers when I travel. I use it to hang dry my clothes as well. 😊

I have an inflatable neck pillow, once deflated it takes up no space at all. An old neck injury makes it necessary, if you spot something like that it can be so useful.

One thing I always have in my suitcase is slim slippers for hotel. They Fit near where handle slides inside suitcase inside liner.
Same! Mine stay in my primary bag all the time. So nice to be able to slip off my shoes at the door and step into my fuzzy little slippers whenever I’m traveling for fun, but especially when I’m visiting elderly family out of state.
I found a pair of sock style “reef shoes” which have a very thin vinyl sole and stretchy sock part. They’re not great reef shoes but great as travel slippers because they’re completely flat, machine washable and dry easily.

OMG- I was just looking at my huge storage bins filled with travel stuff! I found I have lots of doubles - 2 folding mirrors, 2 clotheslines, 2 travel pillows, - and don't get me started on my makeup! I need to know what I have and where I have stored it. Maybe making a list on my phone might help, as well as photos of my travel gear. Thanks for your videos!

Use the narrow silicon brush holder as a pencil holder. May be able to fit miniture stapler, paper clips, elastic,etc. For office on the go.

I love my turtle neck wrap, use it on every flight.
I have the silicone brush holder and I love it and use it because I do carry a lot of make up. But I also like to journal when I travel so you could use that for pens/pencils, or first aide type things, tweezers, bandaids, etc…..You could even just use it in your house for a pencil case.

I really enjoyed your video I was in the midst of packing for a two-month trip and was doing the keep or get rid of haul. I also have a scrubber bag and while I don't use it all the time I take it everywhere. I spent 3 months in Mexico and our house only had a shower so it definitely came in handy While I didn't have as much to go through as you, but I did get rid of a lot of stuff. Thanks!

I have used the small scrubber for myself and get my husband to so his own holiday washing and he has the large one. Had both for years.
Also i have the cabeau neck pillow the connects to the back of the plane seat via velcro but i have taken the insert out as it feels like a neck brace. I fill the empty cabeau pillow with my long down jacket and a silk travel wrap and travel towel saving more than 430gms in my caryon and its so soft to sleep with
I also bought that green Scrubba Bag so I could do laundry & hang it to dry from a dryer line that I also bought. Needless to say, both just took up space in my bag & were fairly useless when I attempted to wash my clothes when I was in Switzerland. I agree that it is just way easier to wash directly in the tub or the sink for smaller items.
I bought a collapsible bucket for a very long cruise, the plan was to wash things that wouldn’t fit in a sink! It turned out to be quite useful …. When I needed to soak my foot in salt water due to an open wound! As for clothes? Not yet.

Pillow Blanket: I have a couple that we use for long haul flights but I also love them in my winter car kit or for road trips.
I store my excess travel toiletries in clear plastic shoe boxes like the one you show (where you keep your silicone beauty etc in). The shoe boxes stack easily and I have labeled them according to categories. Makes it easy to pack before my trips and to see what I need to refill. For example one shoe box for skin care, one for hair & wardrobe (mini lint roller, Tide pen/Shout wipes, tiny mending kit), dental care (I throw all my back up floss and “freebie” brushes/floss/picks/paste from my 3x year dental cleanings), one for body stuff, and one for empty/new travel-size containers and tools (new blender sponges, small powder puff, tissues, disposable facial cleansing sponges, etc).

I despise those hard-sided suitcases that split down the middle, like that blue one. They don’t prop open on luggage stands; you have to lay them fully out on the bed.

@@Sakura_Blossoms Half of your items are vertical, falling/sliding down then. Using a regular suitcase, everything is folded in the box, and you have the upright pocket leaning against the wall for undies, etc.. In fact, another thing I look for is that interior pocket with the zip should go across the top when propped opened.

Love mine. But I use packing cubes and organise each side so that the things I’m going to unpack and leave unpacked are in one side and the other has the things I’ll access almost daily. If I’m staying a long time in a hotel or air B&B I can unpack almost fully. The hard case gives me extra reassurance that anything delicate inside is protected and it’s less likely to get the contents wet if exposed to weather.
I’ve had both over the years but have settled on the hard case with packing cubes.
Periodically I go through my stuff. Nice to know I’m not the only one not liking what I thought I would.

I love my plane flap thing - only about an hour 2x per month and catch up on crime dramas on the plane. I do agree that pillows are a pain in the neck (literally)!
I bought a bunch of hooks to store my backpacks on my hanging rail. One side is a straight hook and the other is a 90 degree hook to hold the bag. Perfect when you have short hanging space free.

The TSA is getting less picky about the size of the 3-2-1 bag as long as it's roughly that size and it's clear, that'll let it go through.
In your travel closet you might like to try looping the handle of a bag on a hanger then hang it rather than setting it on the floor. It saves floor space for heavy items.
Just a thought about your new tripp travel makeup case, because its a see through bag, you can use it to put your electronics, your scale, your adapter, also cords to keep things organized.
I recently purchased the silicon brush holder and plan to use it for our electric toothbrushes. Hoping that will work. Will be giving them a try in a few weeks!
I bought the scrubba bag on my sisters insistence. I took it to Ireland and I did use it. I also bought those foldable hangers and I love them too. I find the scrubba folds down pretty small and I put the hangers and laundry sheets with it so I’m keeping mine. Also could you not use it as a dry bag? It looks similar to the blue one.

If I am on a long flight (5+ hours), I will travel with my Cabeau travel pillow. I swear by this pillow because it keeps my head from falling forward - I love it! I have had the TRTL for years and sold it. I found it too hot and stiff.
That Make Up bag which you don't know if you will use, the new one, is also perfect for keeping things like cables, batteries and other electronic equipments. Or it could also be used for things like medicine, band-aid, and so on :)
I use the Vapur water bottle exclusively. It stands up just fine, folds up super tiny, weighs very little. Absolutely the best product for all my travels to Europe.
Maybe mine didn't get manufactured properly?? It's so sharp on the edges it has but my hands a couple of times and mine never wants to stand up unless its totally full of water. 🤷🏻♀
Many items that I purchased for travel was because they said I needed it 😂
Try the blow up hangers, the keep the sides of a shirt separate so it drys much faster.
I use a silicone makeup holder for my pens. That if they happen to leak they don’t leak on my things
I use my TRL pillow as lumbar support when not using as a pillow. I tend to bring on most flights

I don’t use a lot of makeup either. I decided not to be limited by what the manufacturer called the packing cube and use the “makeup” cube as an ad hoc medical kit, with bandaids, polysporin, pain killers, cold meds, etc
Hello! Thank you for this video. You've just confirmed my point of view that to travel person does not need dozens of travel gear items. Most of the "essentials" are totally useless; they are waste of money and waste of storage space 😇👍🏻
I bought the Scrubba bag for a cruise (with kids) in 2022. I bought it direct from Scrubba, which is an Australian company, and I live in the US, so I paid more than Amazon sold it for and had to wait a good while for it to arrive. (I did not want to buy from Amazon because people said they'd received fakes, and it was not a cheap item.)
We ended up getting a free bag of laundry halfway through the cruise, so everything got laundered anyway, and if it were truly that critical that something be washed, I would have figured out a way to wash it or pay for it to be laundered for a few bucks. I always pack Shout wipes, so any stains can at least be treated, if nothing else, before laundering at home. Therefore, we never used our Scrubba bag.
We don't camp, so I'm tempted to sell it for half the cost of a new one, and that way I recover some funds while someone else gets a brand new one at a good discount.
the scrubba bag works also as a dry bag, in case you prefer to keep it and use it

I have gone through mine a couple of times in the past couple of years and eliminated the things I don't use...I am a big user of small things! LOL. I am also a lover of Tripped Travel and have been for years! I keep looking at that new "makeup" bag wondering if I need it or not. Pretty sure I don't, but I kind of want it!! I use my flat collapsible water bottle as a back up when hiking with a water filter.
I've done that too, but this particular one is very sharp on the edges and with dryer hands it has cut me a few times. I usually have a camelbak (bladder) when hiking and now I just bring my other collapsible water bottle 😊
The silicone makeup brush holder is great for an electric toothbrush or just a toothbrush and small toothpaste. There are lots of ways of using the brush holder.

Last week I donated 2 suitcases I bought for my hubby. He never used them, I’d used them a few times for road trips but overall they sucked. They are heavy and what made them unique is they have a pullout shelving system you can hang in a closet. The shelves took up so much space. The concept was cool but it just wasn’t functional, especially for flying, the 2 sizes were check only not carryon so that sucked.
I love my Hero clip, it is attached to my purse so I can hang it when I use the toilet. I had problems with it until I realized that the hook swings to the side to use
The scrub a wash bag looks like it’s a dry bag for the beach or a raft trip!

The yoga mat might work for wall yoga. I find my mat slides on a wood floor but your sticky one might not.
That blanket is huge. I bring a large scarf as it’s far more versatile.
I really like Travel 8 luggage. The reason i have not bought it is because of the size. The carry on measures 21.6 x 14.9 x 10.2 inch and American airlines specifies Shouldn’t exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches / 56 x 36 x 23 centimeters (including handles and wheels)
Must fit in the sizer at the airport. So i am scared they may make me check bag the Travel 8 20" carry on.
Have you had any problems storing this in overhead bin? And have you flown American airlines with it? Great video, thanks for the info.
You could store cords in that silicone makeup brush case.
Cords, cords, cords! Everything takes a different cord- such a hassle at home & away! Good idea.
I use a waterproof drybag to do laundry when traveling. I don't like the idea of trying to do laundry in the sink I've been brushing my teeth in... that dry bag you have for hiking and adventures would work, and mine was way cheaper than that scrubba bag. As a bonus, it folds up and fits in the space between the trolly hardware in my carry-on.
I have a pile of compression packing cubes and a bin of random mini toiletries and etc - boy do I feel seen
Thank you! :) One thing that could be useful, but I don't see anyone advertising it, is disposable slippers. They are very thin and light weight and you can toss them at your destination.
Just purchase a small pair that you wash after your trip or even during and use them on every trip - I’ve done that for over 2 years
Nobody mentiones them because it is unneccessary wasteful!

I have to go through my old and not used anymore suitcases and accessories and I'm going to donate them to a Maternity Shelter. The women who wind up there don't have much and they need a way to get their things to the New Mother's Shelter when the baby comes and when they finally transition to their own homes. I spoke to the director and she was more than take them as soon as the holiday is over and I have a chance to go through everything. Women's Shelters also have a need for our good condition travel items...
I ordered that flex flap thing, got it, saw that it’s shouldn’t be as heavy as it is, and returned it. I have something else to use that’s lighter. And since I already had it, no extra money spent.
I love my flex flap! I use it almost every flight!
What size is your packable backpack? I love that you give us link, unfortunately there are size options and I have no clue what size you use and if it works better than another size option. Thanks so much!!!
That is a great question! I had to go measure mine because I don't think I even realized they came in other sizes 😂. It is a 16L, and I've never needed more room for what I use it for.
Many airlines are counting travel pillow and or blanket as one of your carry ons.
I was wondering…wouldn’t your wet/dry bag also be used as the laundry washing bag? I have a wet bag and was wondering if it could be utilized as a washing bag too.

The other trick with water in hot climates is to freeze it and bring it to the beach!
Has anyone tried to use the brush silicone thingy for a full size electrical toothbrush? I was thinking about buying for my philips sonicare toothbrush that i bring on longer trips.
I don't think it's quite long enough for the full size electric toothbrush unless you take the head off and put the parts in separately, then it might work really well!
I like my Trtl but it’s a challenge to fly with due to its odd shape. I find I use it more on long car trips. Also I wish they made it in a cooler fabric. Fleece is too hot.
I agree about the fabric, it does get hot!!
