I personally liked the quest where you are locked in a house and have to get rid of the others, but ending Valen was rather cathartic, especially when you yell him that the Dark Brotherhood sends its regards.
At this point in elder scrolls history house Dres is still practicing slavery against Argonians and Khajiit. In the 200 years between Oblivion and Skyrim there was a massive eruption of the red mountain and a huge Argonian revolt and invasion of Morrowind, so they Dunmer in Skyrim don't do slavery anymore and are mostly refugees, so it kind of makes sense that they'd be a lot less bigoted.

This is why everyone should join the Dark Brotherhood to permanently shut him up. I showed him when I used lightning killing him with one zap was satisfying. Nobody insults a Breton and lives.
