Lol, I know what u mean about NOBODY wanting to mentor up & coming tie-dyer’s! I also have been dying for 20+yrs & I had to put an ad in the ppr to find a “tie-dye master”. Hello and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tie-Dye ....
I use Procion Dyes I pre wash and pre soak the cotton tees in a Soda Ash solution, this raises the pH level of the cotton which activates the Procion Dyes (sources listed below) and causes a chemical bond to form between the cotton fibers and the Procion Dyes. (Procion Dyes work on other natural fibers as well like : Bamboo, Hemp, Linen, Rayon, and even silk, but I use a slightly different process for silk)

I have put a bunch of videos into one Playlist to help get you started with an overview of Tie-Dye, and then how to mix the Dyes, mix or make Soda Ash, Batch the tees (let the dyes set up so the bonding can happen), and the Rinse/Wash Out Process...
Also, I have many videos on the basic folds and various ways of dyeing the cotton tees or tapestries ... Have fun exploring and I wish you success on your Tie-Dye Journey, Oh and I recommend taking photos of your work so you can look back and see how far you have come as this is an art that you will need to practice, but it pays off with getting better each time you do it .....

Mr Tye Dye thank you for all that you do. I’ve been Tye Dying for approximately 25 years and just finished up teaching a group of friends and their kids. It was a great time, especially during quarantine. I was curious if anyone out there knows how to do the Jerry Garcia spiral fold dye. I think it’s just a spiral fold, but dyed a certain way. When opening, has Jerry face with black sunglasses and black beard during his younger years. If anyone has any information about this design, it would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone and much respect to Mr Tye Dye. Keep up good work and teaching people who want to learn.

If you leave a white space for yellow and then apply the yellow last, the other colors won't overtake it as much because they will have already bonded to the material.

@@MrTieDye I li ate the dyes but they I. A kit just to add water an use on the prewash an soak in washing soda then squeeze an tye up etc thanks hope to make some an sell for an in one here I did a few with bleach came out well but going for the dyes now

Any tips for a shirt coming out dull and re spiraling / dying it
shirts that come out looking dull can be for many reasons ... what kind of dye are you using? how strong did you mix it? how long did you batch? what was the temp when you batched it? ... here is a video where I discuss how to Improve your colors : th-cam.com/video/vXFh3CIMJGc/w-d-xo.html
also, you mentioned re-spiraling and dyeing it again... I do this sometimes... you will need to re-soak in soda ash ( I use a separate basin for this as some of the dyes may leach out into the sod ash, this way I can add just enough to cover the one tee) .... OR, instead of soaking again, you can spiral, add dye and then add soda ash over the top of the tee : th-cam.com/video/rkmAQxOu52A/w-d-xo.html
Here is a process I call Over Dyeing... I start with a tie-dye tee, then I tie it up with sinew and then dye it black... the sinew will block the dyes from reaching parts of the tee if tied tight enough ... here is my process for that : th-cam.com/video/CPI_23w6JkY/w-d-xo.html ... but you certainly do not have to tie with sinew, you can just twist it up and add more of the same colors, or darker colors ... I hope this helps you ✌️
Can you do a dinosaur??? I have a 7 month old and would love to learn how to do a dinosaur, if you can I haven't seen anyone do it.

What do you use to keep the die in your material? Please help
I am guessing you mean how do I keep the colors bright on the fabric after washing?
I use Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes and they need Soda Ash to activate them and then the bonding between the cotton fibers and the dyes happen while you let the tee batch for 24 - 48 hours ... OR, you can heat set the dyes
but I use 100% cotton tees as these dyes do not work on poly or other man made fabrics
so here is more info that may be of help to you if you are just starting out with tie-dye:
