I really wanted to cover some ground with them .... I do several of these designs when I do school events, thus the creative names for the patterns... and yes the Wild Spiral is one that happened almost by accident ...... I was just about out of every color of dye and wanted to finish it off before I stated making new dyes so I tied up a few tapestries and just started grabbing every bottle and finishing it off on these taps and I to was blown away when I opened them .... Your videos are so good! I have no questions! You have answered them all! I've done only seven tie dyes with sweat dripping down my head. Every one of mine looked fantastic except one (my sister still liked it)...but you learn from your mistakes. I was unable to tie the spiral easily but this tutorial has given me more confidence. First, I was trying to tie it with rubber bands and I needed kite string. Then, I would get so far, lose my direction and scrunch the rest (it looked JUST ok). My final and well received tie dye was super easy. I fan folded the whole shirt from the bottom, slapped on those rubber bands and used 2-3 colors. I let them process and bam they were gorgeous. One of my relatives wanted a tie dye peace sign on her shirt. That's how I found your excellent tutorials. I'm soaking 3 shirts in soda ash right now to attempt the peace sign! Thank you so much! ✌

      I have also purchased the same kind of dyes from Custom Colours in NC and Grateful Dye in CO. Here is a video on how to mix the dyes: th-cam.com/video/3Fj289T6BVg/w-d-xo.html
      Also, if you are using fiber reactive dyes, is the tee shirt 100% cotton??, these dyes do not work on polyester
      and did you use soda ash?? ..... Soda ash is what activate the Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes, another name for it is Sodium Carbonate. You can find it at one of the dye houses, or you can purchase locally from a pool supply store, or in the laundry isle under the name Washing Soda, just be sure to check the label says 100% Soda Ash. Obviously the 300 plus who disliked this video know very little about tie dye and it’s true art. I love how you share your thought process and your thoughts of how each design will go. I teach little ones and this is a great example of taking a familiar fold and how you can have so many examples how each one is unique in it’s own way just based on dye placement and color selection.

      Thank you and yes it has taken me a while to just not look at the negative that comes with going public with anything these days .... I love to help others have success with this art... and yes, I spent 16 years doing school events and it was great to be able to teach a few folds, but then dye them differently ... so I was always looking for a cool new name for a design .... I think that is what trained me up to create these videos ✌🏻🙏❤️

    Hey Mr. TieDye, just want to say I luv luv luv your videos!!! I used to tie dye when I was young but only with bleach on jeans, and I'm back tie dying now so learning about using these awesome color dyes is super cool. I must say that out of all the tie dye videos that I have been watching, you are the FIRST & ONLY person who actually tell the viewers the name of the colors that you are using & color placement for best results and I truly appreciate that!!! I lost interest watching the other TH-cam videos because every time I would try to tie dye a shirt it would come out awful because they never tell the viewers the actual colors they are using smh. I want to thank you and commend you for the detail in your videos and I never get bored because every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new!! By the way, I am a black old skool girl and I totally respect your old skool swag, persona and attention to detail lol. Patience is a virtue.....it's a shame these young people don't have much patience and/or appreciation for skills like this. They rather go to the store and pay $50 for a tie dye jean jacket instead of making their own for about $20 smh. Some of them don't know if they should scratch their watch or wind their ass lolbs. Thanks hun and keep giving us more :0)

  • @meganmcgowan5798

    I've got an experiment going! I did the usual spiral wrap like you did here. BUT... I've applied purple, fuchsia and turquoise blue in that order to the outer section of the "pie slices". Then I applied fuchsia to the inner sections of the purple slices, turquoise blue to the inner sections of the fuchsia slices and purple to the inner section of the turquoise blue slices. Then I flipped it over and did the same thing in the same orders. This palette usually gives me a nice mix of the original 3 colors of fuchsia, turquoise and purple, plus a nice sort of royal blue, a pretty magenta and a violet that's a little different from the original purple. I' thinking that this application may give me a "Color Shift" spiral-- but we shall see! I let my work batch for 24 hours. It's setting now, so tomorrow afternoon will be the reveal!

    • @meganmcgowan5798
      @meganmcgowan5798 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Saturday afternoon reveal... and it turned out SO COOL! It did produce a great color shift with each element of the spiral having 3 colors-- turquoise, purple and fuchsia, or some combination of 3 mains and/or secondaries. I used kite string to tie it off and rubber bands instead of fabric marker just to make the slices. The white rays are razor sharp (as best as they would be with this brand of dye, the one I constantly rag on), and the inner spiral sections are almost a solid line running around through the segments until the spiral widens out, and they slowly separate into the typical color blocks aligned parallel to the direction of spin. Wish I could share a picture after it dries! This is really, really nice with LOTS of color and well placed small pieces of white, just enough to add some shine and pop to the color. It's freaking awesome!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      WOW ... that sounds awesome... I love to experiment and the spiral gives so many options.... I have played with the shifts in color lines.... I did a huge tapestry a while back so I had more room for the shifts as I worked my way out.... and yeah I wish there was a way to share photos here.... FB or IG?? you can tag me 😉✌🏻

    Thank you Mr. Tie Dye! I made my first ever shirt 3 days ago and it looks amazing. I made one based on the rainbow scrunch video, and now my goal is to make a spiral. I did have one question. I sell screen printed shirts on Redbubble and I want very badly to tie dye one of them, but I was unsure if the dye would hurt the screen printing. Is it safe to tie dye a shirt that has a printed design if I turn it inside out and start with lighter colors in the center? Thank you again, and I love your content!

      You are welcome and yes I have dyed many tees that have screen print on them... I cannot speak to all screen printing, but the one I have done were fine, sometimes there was a little bit of staining... and some that had a very light design, i would avoid putting dye directly on, or I would use a light color.
      BUT, for the best looking screen print, it is best to dye the tee first and then add the screen print if that is an option.

      Thank you and you are welcome.... yes, after I dye the tees, I set put them in a tub with a lid so they stay wet and then I batch mine for a minimum of 24 hours, but I prefer to leave them for 48 hours so they dyes have more time to bond ... here is my Beginner's Playlist... it has lots of tips and tricks to get started in Tie-Dye : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html
      I do a video showing the whole process, then there is a video for mixing the dyes, the soda ash, and some basic folds, how I batch and then how I do the wash out... I hope this helps

    I wish I could give this 87 👍🏼
    Such a great video! I've seen so many that seem like people don't *really* want to teach others their techniques, they just want to show off what they can do.
    THANK YOU!!!

      @@MrTieDye I've been teaching tie-dye at an art camp for 10 YEARS & supplied our local PRIDE Fest w T's for a couple years. I know others still love what I've done but I want to keep pushing myself, get better and learning new techniques. Thank you for helping me become a better artist and for helping me color a small, southern town with PRIDE 😄
      I thought the bulk of my dyes were accidentally thrown out when I moved last year so I ordered another 14 8oz containers of Dharma Dyes only to find ALL 46 colors I have (I forgot to unpack them from the trunk of my car 😬)
      So... I'll ABSOLUTELY have color options! 😂
      I'm excited to do various "flag" colors with light/dark versions of each color on either side!
      Thank you!
      Thank You!!
      THANK YOU!!!
