Two of my favourite game experiences from this year that weren't mentioned, that I wanna shoutout were Unicorn Overlord and Splatoon 3 Side Order, both were great
Unicorn Overlord is like one of the best strategy RPG's I've played. There is so much depth and customizations you can do with your units. You can create some seriously broken combinations. I swear half the time I spent on the game was just messing around with my team synergy and creating the most broken combinations of moves I can think of.
I just wanted to say that Daniel has been knocking it out of the park this year. Its obvious that he puts a lot of passion into the channel and seems filled to the brim with ideas. The others have undoubtedly been great as well!!
The Lost Crown is easily my GOTY. It's one of the best metroidvanias I've ever played, and it might just be my favorite combat system in a metroidvania ever.
I really want to play that game considering I love Metroidvania style games. But considering what Ubisoft been doing lately, I don't know if I'll get it. The last game I brought from them was Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.
The remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door & Dragon Quest 3 are my 2024 Game of the Year. Some of my favorite games of all time being remade and being on Nintendo Switch were a dream come true and there still as amazing as I remembered. I haven't played Astro Bot because I don't have a PS5. But from what I've seen and knowing how much rewards it won at 2024 Gaming Award, I certainly would add that too. It looks like a blast to play.
I had the same reaction. FF7R is an infinitely better game than MMPR:RR, sure, but nothing about it says “growing up in the 90’s” outside of its remake context.
Thanks for shouting out UFO 50. I feel like this collection of games received some decent fanfare for a couple of weeks, but fell off quite a bit. I guess that’s the nature of the gaming space these days, but honestly, UFO 50 is the gift that keeps on giving. I’ll be chipping away at it for a while. Favorites so far: Campanella, Camouflage, Golfaria, Overbold, and Night Manor.
This was such a fun video! The fun award titles, the variety of games shown, it was such a delight to watch! Paper Mario Thousand Year Door was my favorite surprise. Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth was one of my favorite RPGs And Mario Party Jamboree might have been my most played mode, _specifically_ Koopathalon mode. I can't stop playing it!
Saying that Prince of Persia The Lost Crown was barely advertised is crazy. It was literally shown at The Game Awards and a Nintendo Direct. I can’t imagine a better or more expensive place to advertise to metroidvania fans. I think it genuinely just didn’t get as much fan support as it needed, despite the rave reviews.
A Nintendo Direct is one thing, but there was basically no advertising for the game *outside* of it, and since it’s not a collaboration akin to Mario+Rabbids, it wasn’t like Nintendo did so much besides said direct either. The only people who really knew of this game’s existence were hardcore Metroidvania or PoP fans since Ubisoft did a terrible job of marketing it in the same way they would for a big new Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry.
To give some shout-outs to a few games not featured here: - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth was phenomonal, and would probably be my GOTY if it weren't for FFVII Rebirth. Infinite Wealth had a fantastic story, combat, soundtrack and presentation that really made me feel rewarded for being a fan of the series. - Both the Apollo Justice Trilogy and the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection came out this year, and it surprised me how much I enjoyed these re-releases. Especially Ace Attorney Investigations 2: they did a really good job with the localization for that. - The Kingdom Hearts games finally came out on Steam after escaping the Epic Games exclusivity jail! Not only did this mean I could play all the KH games on Steam Deck now, but it was also my excuse to play KH3 Critical mode and Re Mind for the first time. I had an absolute blast with. both: the superbosses were tough but fair, and overcoming them was a really fun challenge!
Happy Monday everyone; with the year winding down, I thought I would share my top five personal favorite games of 2024: 5th Place: Princess Peach Showtime- I got this game for my 31st birthday, and I will say while it wasn't anything memorable, I did have fun with it☺️ 4th place: Reynatis- I know this game doesn't have the best reputation, but I really don't think that should deter you from playing it. It's like a low budget Kingdom hearts, and I mean that as a compliment given how few Kingdom hearts clones that are out there: and I'm not spoiling anything, but with that secret ending they're better be a sequel in the works! Also: Moa Best Girl🐰 🥉 Third Place: Freedom Planet 2- I waited 10 years for a sequel to Freedom Planet 2, by golly this did not disappoint! The story was magnificent and the gameplay has been refined to near perfection: here's hoping we don't have to wait another decade for the sequel✊ 🥈 Second Place: Sonic x Shadow Generations- I played the 3DS version of Sonic generations back when it first came out (criminally underrated in my opinion): and while I have not played the Sonic version of this game, the shadow portion alone carries it because of the story, gameplay, and especially that music (I am jamming to the soundtrack as I write this). While I would have preferred a remake of either adventure one or two, this definitely does the job🤩 🥇 First Place: Trails Through Daybreak- I may not have waited as long for this game as I did freedom planet 2, but darn it all if it did not deliver as if I had waited that long! I logged in 99 hours in this marvelous JRPG, and I don't regret a second of it: the story, characters, and side quests (my goodness, those side quests) easily make this my favorite trails game in the series to date, and that's why it gets to be my personal game of the year👑
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was my Game of this Year, made by Simogo who already made one of my favorite game of all time (Sayonara Wild Hearts). I was hyped by this game since the first trailer in 2022 and I can confidently say that it didn't let this hype go down. If you like puzzle games or just are curious about this game, you should really give it a try.
It’s fantastic. Sadly, I haven’t beaten it because I’m stuck towards the end and refuse to read any hints… but something tells me I’ll be back in that house before long 😂
Some of my favorite games got mentions here, but here's a few that did not: Dungeons of Hinterberg - in between exploring dungeons a la classic 3D Zelda games, you grow social links a la Persona 3-5. Another Crab's Treasure - the first time I've clicked with a soulslike, I love making use of different shells' abilities and I find the ocean world fascinating. Lorelei and the Laser Eyes - my favorite narrative of 2024 (with 1000xResist putting up a close fight) but I love the layers to each puzzle and how they tie to the story. I did put out my own set of awards for anyone who wants to hear me elaborate on any of those and a lot more hidden gems of the year.
What a year though! My favorites that weren't on this list are Kunitsu-Gami (GOTY), Indiana Jones, Thank Goodness You're Here, LAD Infinite Wealth, LoZ Echoes of Wisdom, Rise of the Golden Idol, Duck Detective, and SteamWorld Heist II. If the Switch 2 has a strong launch, 2023-25 might be the best three-year-run in gaming history
2024 was mostly about clearing my backlog for me, but I did manage to play some new titles, and for me, Balatro is the winner of the Best "One More Time" Award for being so damn addicting. With so many different Jokers, each with their own different buffs, to unlock, as well as other cards that grant effects, such as Tarot, Spectral, and Planet cards, there is always something for casuals and completionists to work toward. The gameplay loop is simple--it's pretty much just Poker, but you build your hands and play them like Rummy--yet the strategies you can employ within that loop are near endless. The rounds are also quick enough that I can get in a quick game if I don't have a lot of time, but I can also easily sink hours in because I always want to play another round after my current run ends. Also, the Friends of Jimbo updates that add content from other games pleases my gamer soul to no end.
Nine Sols was at least as good as Lost Crown and one of the better games in the genre, but im going to guess its not mentioned at almost like every other 2024 list. Neva, Thank Goodness You're Here and also Mouthwashing are all works of art.
There's simply too many games, man. It's ROUGH to give everything their flowers. As you said, Mouthwashing, Neva, Thank Goodness You're Here, etc... are excellent and it's up to their fans to sing their praises. Some outlets, like Edge, ARE recognizing them though.
The game not on your list is Balatro, that game is super addictive and I have put over 100 hours in it. On the surface it looks like a poker game, but the rouge-like elements make it so much more than that. Every run feels unique because of the jokers that have different effects, being able to enhance cards with different effects with arcane and spectral cards, and planet cards that level up your poker hands. I'm probably not doing it justice, but the game is a dopamine rush and keeps me coming back for more
Great 2024 summary. I think when it comes to good vibes, I would give Western Land from Mario Party Jamboree an award but I still miss the mountain wall behind the level you could see in Mario Party 2. Sometimes Nintendo sucks with remaking stuff. Like how the cheese race track from Mario Kart Super Circuit didn't look that unique anymore on Switch.
Quite relieved to see this finally coming out and what a great format you have. Was worried you wouldnt make a tier list of gaming this year. Personally however, not meant in bad faith, but I missed the more competive nature like usual lists. This just secretly felt like a list of great games in 2024 which is totally fine, but its not really what i want to listen to when i tune into videos like this. I rather want to hear what games made into your favorite games this year/ game of the year. With exception of Ash who barely mentioned that FFVII Rebirth and Astrobot was his favorite game, I didn't fully understand what your favorite games was this year. I just have to assume it was the games mentioned, but any game could have taken either category you highlighted and i still got impression that certain games would have made into other guys favorite games if it weren't taken already. I hope some sort of main category can be implemented next year. And, but this might be just me, but I would have preffered if this was a discussion type video. I really enjoyed hearing you guys discuss them with eachother and not doing things seperately.
I know many said 2023 was a great year for games, but the variety of people’s favorites shows it was a solid year. My top three are games that weren’t even mentioned (And in some cases, very overlooked) which are Unicorn Overlord, Balatro and Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. These games have one similarity that clicked with me so well and that’s the complexity. I can’t wait to replay these again
I really wanted to play Dawntrail this year... but between being a freshly married man and having a new puppy, I didn't end up finding the time to play it. Especially since I'm on my computer all day for work, my puppy really didn't like me being on it in the evenings for gaming! So I instead played games more on Steam Deck and Switch. Thus, I really appreciated Derek talking about how much he enjoyed Dawntrail! Makes me excited to get to it (hopefully) in 2025!
My top 3 games of the year that I've finished: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload, in that order. Metaphor Re Fantazio could top it though; I've only just started playing it.
I definitely dig how varied these choices are, since out of all the games here, the only ones I’ve played are Metaphor ReFantazio, FF7 Rebirth, Astro Bot and Persona 3 Reload (my #1, #2, #3 and #4 GOTY respectively, coincidentally enough.) I am still hoping that ya’ll will have a separate GOTY discussion so that you can talk about your favorite 2024 games amongst yourselves, instead of in separate entries like in this video. But if not, I’ll at least wholeheartedly take this.👌🏽
My GOTY is 1000xRESIST, a small indie game that somehow managed to craft one of the most impactful narratives of any game I’ve played, let alone this year. If you like the storytelling of 13 Sentinels or the themes of Nier Automata and even Metaphor, you NEED to check out 1000xRESIST! My runner-up is the opposite side of the spectrum: Super Mario Party Jamboree! I do agree that the number of mini-games in the party mode is a bit lacking, but I STILL think it is top 3 in the franchise at worst.
If Pepper Grinder had a mental health - focused story like Celeste, it would be the perfect game for a slow start into the year :) Thanks for the recommendation!
I never played the original P3, but I actually experienced all the issues that you mentioned were fixed, which makes me scared to try the original haha. Maybe I try too hard to optimize, but I found myself doing next to nothing for the last 40% of the game inbetween story segments, while I waited for the next full moon because my stats were maxed and I ran out of Links to do at night. I found Tartarus to be an absolute chore, funnily enough I still have yet to beat the game because I was at a point where I just had to finish all of Tartarus before moving on and I just got burnt out. I do plan on going back eventually though just to see the ending because I loved the characters and the story when the story was actually being told haha. But the endless trecking through Tartarus and weeks of in-game time just going to bed early/doing pretty much nothing of value really slowed down the game way too much for me.

I haven't played too many games this year but I had a great time with Megaton Musashi W: Wired, a great mecha action JRPG with a ton of customization, a heartfelt story, and guest appearances by legendary robots from mecha anime like Mazinger Z and Combattler V. More people need to play Musashi.
Well, Ash, you sold me on Pepper Grinder lol. I'll check that out sometime! My award is for "Best Game in a Series that Starts with the Letter Y". The award goes to... *DRUMROLL*... YS X NORDICS This is a fantastic ARPG. It's the 10th entry in Falcom's long running Ys series. You take up the role as lifetime adventurer Adol Christin. This particular entry takes place not long after the events of Ys 1 and Ys 2 as Adol as his friend Dogi are sailing to the land of Celceta. Their voyage is cut short by the Balta Seaforce. A gang of Nords who patrol the Balta Sea. After being forced to stop at the town of Carnac, Adol discovers a mysterious seashell. This seashell acts as a transmitter of sorts for a mysterious woman known as Lila. This sets Adol's latest adventure into motion. He travels alongside new friend and teammate Karja after they discover they can't go far from each other due to weird "Mana Cuffs" that bind them together. Karja is the daughter of Grimson, the Jarl - or leader - of the Nords. Along your way you'll discover the truth behind the Nord's past and why they settled in the Balta Sea and build your crew as you sail the seas on your ship the Sandras. While buying it now may not be the wisest choice with an expanded version - Ys X: Proud Nordics - on the way (releasing in 2025 for Japan), it's been one heck of a great experience. I don't want to delve too much more into it to avoid spoilers, but please, whether you buy it nor or wait for the expanded version, check out Ys X. It is well worth the time.
For prince of Persia, I think it’s the whole video game industry that failed the game. People talked about the game a ton when it came out and perhaps a few weeks later, yet not too many people picked it up. Even now, hasn’t sold like hot cakes.
There's this one niche game that, while not my favourite game of the year, is certainly a great hidden gem from this year. It's a steam game called "Aliya: Timelink". You're essentially sending messages to a girl in space 1,000 years into the future in real time, meaning that you'd need to wait for her to reply to what you say. Sometimes she'd be too busy doing something to reply, and times like these would keep me checking the game to see if she could say that she's safe and not in harms way.
One game I really enjoyed in 2024 (that wasn't mentioned) was Ys X: Nordics, it is a great addition to the already amazing story of Ys, exploring every island was a lot of fun, the new battle style was cool and while at first I did dislike it, the ship combat was fun.
I got stuck in Prince of Persia at the point where they take away your map. I spent a few hours wandering around the world here and there before giving up. A shame, because I was enjoying what I played before that.
I think it is less likely Ubisoft showed that they don't care about The Lost Crown and more likely people showed they don't really care about the lost crown. It unfortunately didn't sell well.
Granblue Fantasy Relink came out in January, has been skipped by SO many awards, but it 100% gives me exactly what I’ve wanted from an action RPG. Fun combat, lighthearted story, crazy multiplayer potential (it’s literally anime Monster Hunter questing!!!!), and a great variety of characters and play styles. Lack of crossplay definitely feels like it hurt the longevity but i still feel comfortable calling it my GOTY. Please give it a look if you liked any of the major AAA RPGs this year or are getting MH Wilds; it’s half off on both PSN and Steam until those sales end.

Funnily enough the only downside Pepper Grinder has are the bossfights. As fun and fluid as the movement is: That becomes a downside wgen you are trapped in arena. Because I didn't want to. The bosses felt like a chore.
I wanted to try the demo for Prince of Persia but after downloading it on both Switch and Steam, and not being able to play it without creating a Ubisoft account, I just couldn't bother.
I haven't played PoP the Lost Crown yet, but I did buy it. It was too bad it was after the price was slashed, not that I'm complaining, but as a Metroidvania fan, I could tell from the get-go that this game was worth every penny. I didn't get it on release bc there were other games I was more interested in during that period.
Silent Hill 2 was my game of the year by a mile, the OG is in my top 5 of all time and the remake was near perfect. Indiana Jones was also great, basically playing the films, not really seen a game like it to be honest.
For me my favorite game this year was tsukihime a piece of blue glass moon a really good visual novel and im itching fir the sequel, which will come out in 10 to 12 years
My favorite game of this year was Another Crabs Treasure. I know it was rough at first, but after the update the game sucked me in, and i couldn't stop playing it til i beat it.
Hahaha the “still playing this” award. I Knew you were going to say FZero and that’s because I too am also still playing it. I’m so happy Nintendo has decided to continue fully supporting this game. The updates have been fabulous and FZero 99 is currently better than its ever been. Fingers crossed for a new FZero game on switch 2 tho 🤣
Maaaan, I really wanna play The Lost Crown but I REALLY don't want to give Ubisoft my money. I mean good on them I guess, first game of theirs I've wanted to play in a looooong time. Oh, and my GOTY is Caves of Qud. It seems overwhelming, but if you can get past that and have a good imagination and creativity, you can glimpse the future of immersive sim/rpgs and it's a damn fun one.
For the vampire survivor's ode to castlevania nominee, I wonder if you tried the dead cells castlevania dlc from last year? Which do you think did it better?
Princess Peach Showtime is surprisingly fun and cozy as Jon says, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was definitely done dirty by Ubisoft (I had no idea that game even had DLC), Tekken 8 is such a fun fighting game that will stand next to Street Fighter 6 for me in terms on new fighting games, Another Code Collection needs more love and the same can be said for Emio: FDC for those who love point and click adventure games, MvC Collection is such a joy to see become reality, Unicorn Overlord is an underrated gem under a pile of fantastic games this year and finally a tie between FF7: Rebirth and Astro Bot for GOTY for me. Haven’t touch Persona 3 Reload or Metaphor because I’m not always at home, so I’ll wait for the ports to come to the Switch Successor. Heck the ONLY reason I beat FF7 Rebirth was that I requested off that week and Astro Bot isn’t that long of a game to play.

While I would have preferred a remake of either adventure one or two, this definitely does the job🤩
🥇 First Place: Trails Through Daybreak- I may not have waited as long for this game as I did freedom planet 2, but darn it all if it did not deliver as if I had waited that long! I logged in 99 hours in this marvelous JRPG, and I don't regret a second of it: the story, characters, and side quests (my goodness, those side quests) easily make this my favorite trails game in the series to date, and that's why it gets to be my personal game of the year👑
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes was my Game of this Year, made by Simogo who already made one of my favorite game of all time (Sayonara Wild Hearts). I was hyped by this game since the first trailer in 2022 and I can confidently say that it didn't let this hype go down. If you like puzzle games or just are curious about this game, you should really give it a try.
It’s fantastic. Sadly, I haven’t beaten it because I’m stuck towards the end and refuse to read any hints… but something tells me I’ll be back in that house before long 😂

Some of my favorite games got mentions here, but here's a few that did not:
Dungeons of Hinterberg - in between exploring dungeons a la classic 3D Zelda games, you grow social links a la Persona 3-5.
Another Crab's Treasure - the first time I've clicked with a soulslike, I love making use of different shells' abilities and I find the ocean world fascinating.
Lorelei and the Laser Eyes - my favorite narrative of 2024 (with 1000xResist putting up a close fight) but I love the layers to each puzzle and how they tie to the story.
I did put out my own set of awards for anyone who wants to hear me elaborate on any of those and a lot more hidden gems of the year.
What a year though! My favorites that weren't on this list are Kunitsu-Gami (GOTY), Indiana Jones, Thank Goodness You're Here, LAD Infinite Wealth, LoZ Echoes of Wisdom, Rise of the Golden Idol, Duck Detective, and SteamWorld Heist II. If the Switch 2 has a strong launch, 2023-25 might be the best three-year-run in gaming history
2024 was mostly about clearing my backlog for me, but I did manage to play some new titles, and for me, Balatro is the winner of the Best "One More Time" Award for being so damn addicting. With so many different Jokers, each with their own different buffs, to unlock, as well as other cards that grant effects, such as Tarot, Spectral, and Planet cards, there is always something for casuals and completionists to work toward. The gameplay loop is simple--it's pretty much just Poker, but you build your hands and play them like Rummy--yet the strategies you can employ within that loop are near endless. The rounds are also quick enough that I can get in a quick game if I don't have a lot of time, but I can also easily sink hours in because I always want to play another round after my current run ends. Also, the Friends of Jimbo updates that add content from other games pleases my gamer soul to no end.

There's simply too many games, man. It's ROUGH to give everything their flowers. As you said, Mouthwashing, Neva, Thank Goodness You're Here, etc... are excellent and it's up to their fans to sing their praises. Some outlets, like Edge, ARE recognizing them though.

The game not on your list is Balatro, that game is super addictive and I have put over 100 hours in it. On the surface it looks like a poker game, but the rouge-like elements make it so much more than that. Every run feels unique because of the jokers that have different effects, being able to enhance cards with different effects with arcane and spectral cards, and planet cards that level up your poker hands. I'm probably not doing it justice, but the game is a dopamine rush and keeps me coming back for more
Great 2024 summary. I think when it comes to good vibes, I would give Western Land from Mario Party Jamboree an award but I still miss the mountain wall behind the level you could see in Mario Party 2. Sometimes Nintendo sucks with remaking stuff. Like how the cheese race track from Mario Kart Super Circuit didn't look that unique anymore on Switch.
Quite relieved to see this finally coming out and what a great format you have. Was worried you wouldnt make a tier list of gaming this year.
Personally however, not meant in bad faith, but I missed the more competive nature like usual lists. This just secretly felt like a list of great games in 2024 which is totally fine, but its not really what i want to listen to when i tune into videos like this. I rather want to hear what games made into your favorite games this year/ game of the year. With exception of Ash who barely mentioned that FFVII Rebirth and Astrobot was his favorite game, I didn't fully understand what your favorite games was this year. I just have to assume it was the games mentioned, but any game could have taken either category you highlighted and i still got impression that certain games would have made into other guys favorite games if it weren't taken already. I hope some sort of main category can be implemented next year.

I know many said 2023 was a great year for games, but the variety of people’s favorites shows it was a solid year. My top three are games that weren’t even mentioned (And in some cases, very overlooked) which are Unicorn Overlord, Balatro and Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. These games have one similarity that clicked with me so well and that’s the complexity. I can’t wait to replay these again
I really wanted to play Dawntrail this year... but between being a freshly married man and having a new puppy, I didn't end up finding the time to play it. Especially since I'm on my computer all day for work, my puppy really didn't like me being on it in the evenings for gaming! So I instead played games more on Steam Deck and Switch.
Thus, I really appreciated Derek talking about how much he enjoyed Dawntrail! Makes me excited to get to it (hopefully) in 2025!
My top 3 games of the year that I've finished: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Reload, in that order. Metaphor Re Fantazio could top it though; I've only just started playing it.
I definitely dig how varied these choices are, since out of all the games here, the only ones I’ve played are Metaphor ReFantazio, FF7 Rebirth, Astro Bot and Persona 3 Reload (my #1, #2, #3 and #4 GOTY respectively, coincidentally enough.) I am still hoping that ya’ll will have a separate GOTY discussion so that you can talk about your favorite 2024 games amongst yourselves, instead of in separate entries like in this video. But if not, I’ll at least wholeheartedly take this.👌🏽
I was expecting balatro to be on this list but Astro and metaphor were my highlights along paper Mario ttyd being my favorite remaster this year
My GOTY is 1000xRESIST, a small indie game that somehow managed to craft one of the most impactful narratives of any game I’ve played, let alone this year. If you like the storytelling of 13 Sentinels or the themes of Nier Automata and even Metaphor, you NEED to check out 1000xRESIST!
My runner-up is the opposite side of the spectrum: Super Mario Party Jamboree! I do agree that the number of mini-games in the party mode is a bit lacking, but I STILL think it is top 3 in the franchise at worst.
Ttyd remake, metaphor, astro bot, and Sonic x shadow were my GOTY. Man, there were so many great games to come out this year 👏

Echoes of Wisdom by far my favorite game of the year. By far my Favorite Zelda released this gen
I never played the original P3, but I actually experienced all the issues that you mentioned were fixed, which makes me scared to try the original haha. Maybe I try too hard to optimize, but I found myself doing next to nothing for the last 40% of the game inbetween story segments, while I waited for the next full moon because my stats were maxed and I ran out of Links to do at night. I found Tartarus to be an absolute chore, funnily enough I still have yet to beat the game because I was at a point where I just had to finish all of Tartarus before moving on and I just got burnt out. I do plan on going back eventually though just to see the ending because I loved the characters and the story when the story was actually being told haha. But the endless trecking through Tartarus and weeks of in-game time just going to bed early/doing pretty much nothing of value really slowed down the game way too much for me.
I feel like I was the only person who bought, played, and loved Sand Land.

I didn't play a single new game that came out this year but honestly it was a good year
I haven't played too many games this year but I had a great time with Megaton Musashi W: Wired, a great mecha action JRPG with a ton of customization, a heartfelt story, and guest appearances by legendary robots from mecha anime like Mazinger Z and Combattler V. More people need to play Musashi.

My award is for "Best Game in a Series that Starts with the Letter Y". The award goes to... *DRUMROLL*... YS X NORDICS
This is a fantastic ARPG. It's the 10th entry in Falcom's long running Ys series. You take up the role as lifetime adventurer Adol Christin. This particular entry takes place not long after the events of Ys 1 and Ys 2 as Adol as his friend Dogi are sailing to the land of Celceta. Their voyage is cut short by the Balta Seaforce. A gang of Nords who patrol the Balta Sea. After being forced to stop at the town of Carnac, Adol discovers a mysterious seashell.
This seashell acts as a transmitter of sorts for a mysterious woman known as Lila. This sets Adol's latest adventure into motion. He travels alongside new friend and teammate Karja after they discover they can't go far from each other due to weird "Mana Cuffs" that bind them together. Karja is the daughter of Grimson, the Jarl - or leader - of the Nords. Along your way you'll discover the truth behind the Nord's past and why they settled in the Balta Sea and build your crew as you sail the seas on your ship the Sandras.
While buying it now may not be the wisest choice with an expanded version - Ys X: Proud Nordics - on the way (releasing in 2025 for Japan), it's been one heck of a great experience. I don't want to delve too much more into it to avoid spoilers, but please, whether you buy it nor or wait for the expanded version, check out Ys X. It is well worth the time.
For prince of Persia, I think it’s the whole video game industry that failed the game. People talked about the game a ton when it came out and perhaps a few weeks later, yet not too many people picked it up. Even now, hasn’t sold like hot cakes.

There's this one niche game that, while not my favourite game of the year, is certainly a great hidden gem from this year. It's a steam game called "Aliya: Timelink".
You're essentially sending messages to a girl in space 1,000 years into the future in real time, meaning that you'd need to wait for her to reply to what you say. Sometimes she'd be too busy doing something to reply, and times like these would keep me checking the game to see if she could say that she's safe and not in harms way.
Was excited to see what won ”the best rivals of aether sequel”-category 😂❤

One game I really enjoyed in 2024 (that wasn't mentioned) was Ys X: Nordics, it is a great addition to the already amazing story of Ys, exploring every island was a lot of fun, the new battle style was cool and while at first I did dislike it, the ship combat was fun.
I gotta mention it. The nobody noticed this last year award goes to: void stranger. No one noticed one of the best games of all time.

PoP The Lost Crown is my GOTY and I also hated to see how it was treated. And I'm not sure why I never heard about UFO 50 but I'm super intrigued now!
I got stuck in Prince of Persia at the point where they take away your map. I spent a few hours wandering around the world here and there before giving up. A shame, because I was enjoying what I played before that.
I consider zenless zone zero ost in the intro and outro as a honorable mention in this video.
I think it is less likely Ubisoft showed that they don't care about The Lost Crown and more likely people showed they don't really care about the lost crown. It unfortunately didn't sell well.

Granblue Fantasy Relink came out in January, has been skipped by SO many awards, but it 100% gives me exactly what I’ve wanted from an action RPG. Fun combat, lighthearted story, crazy multiplayer potential (it’s literally anime Monster Hunter questing!!!!), and a great variety of characters and play styles. Lack of crossplay definitely feels like it hurt the longevity but i still feel comfortable calling it my GOTY.
Please give it a look if you liked any of the major AAA RPGs this year or are getting MH Wilds; it’s half off on both PSN and Steam until those sales end.

Like a dragon was my GOTY. So funny and so entertaining for the 140 hours I put into completing it.
Funnily enough the only downside Pepper Grinder has are the bossfights. As fun and fluid as the movement is: That becomes a downside wgen you are trapped in arena. Because I didn't want to. The bosses felt like a chore.
I wanted to try the demo for Prince of Persia but after downloading it on both Switch and Steam, and not being able to play it without creating a Ubisoft account, I just couldn't bother.

I haven't played PoP the Lost Crown yet, but I did buy it. It was too bad it was after the price was slashed, not that I'm complaining, but as a Metroidvania fan, I could tell from the get-go that this game was worth every penny. I didn't get it on release bc there were other games I was more interested in during that period.
I liked last year's format better where everyone had their own video, but I'll take it!
Rebirth is my favorite GOTY. But I also want to shoutout Fantasian and Zelda Echoes of Wisdom
Silent Hill 2 was my game of the year by a mile, the OG is in my top 5 of all time and the remake was near perfect. Indiana Jones was also great, basically playing the films, not really seen a game like it to be honest.

For me my favorite game this year was tsukihime a piece of blue glass moon a really good visual novel and im itching fir the sequel, which will come out in 10 to 12 years

My favorite game of this year was Another Crabs Treasure. I know it was rough at first, but after the update the game sucked me in, and i couldn't stop playing it til i beat it.

The updates have been fabulous and FZero 99 is currently better than its ever been. Fingers crossed for a new FZero game on switch 2 tho 🤣

Oh, and my GOTY is Caves of Qud. It seems overwhelming, but if you can get past that and have a good imagination and creativity, you can glimpse the future of immersive sim/rpgs and it's a damn fun one.

Princess Peach Showtime is surprisingly fun and cozy as Jon says, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was definitely done dirty by Ubisoft (I had no idea that game even had DLC), Tekken 8 is such a fun fighting game that will stand next to Street Fighter 6 for me in terms on new fighting games, Another Code Collection needs more love and the same can be said for Emio: FDC for those who love point and click adventure games, MvC Collection is such a joy to see become reality, Unicorn Overlord is an underrated gem under a pile of fantastic games this year and finally a tie between FF7: Rebirth and Astro Bot for GOTY for me. Haven’t touch Persona 3 Reload or Metaphor because I’m not always at home, so I’ll wait for the ports to come to the Switch Successor. Heck the ONLY reason I beat FF7 Rebirth was that I requested off that week and Astro Bot isn’t that long of a game to play.
