Best Nintendo moment of the year for me was the Ace Attorney Investigations reveal. I’ve been playing those games for half my life, it means a lot to many people and seeing how emotional the fandom got when it came out was a highlight for sure.
My favorite Nintendo memories this year were the “Final Splatfest” for Splatoon 3 and “Mario and Luigi:Brothership.” One was a grand finale for Splatoon for the Switch and the other was a grand return for a series that was stuck in limbo for years.
@@justintendo4302 I looked at all the first party releases in 2016 and while it wasn’t that good, they did try and released new content in that timeframe anyways. Shockingly it was less Barren than 2012 for the Wii for first party and Nintendo published games
My favorite Nintendo moment of year was this. I had been wanting to play Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story for the first time for awhile so one night I started Superstar Saga and the next day was the direct that opens with Mario and Luigi Brothership. Perfect timing
2023 was killer. I've had the switch since it released and 2023 was the year I played it the most by far. For a console to be in its seventh year and have its best one yet is wild.
Thousand Year Door is a game I've heard a lot about but never played, a thing that's just been a legend for me, now finally becoming actual factual experience. And I did enjoy it, it even managed to make me replay the final boss as I lost the first round which does not happen very often these days, and I was charmed by what it had to offer. I consider myself truly paper-pilled now, and I plan to dive into the first Paper-game on NSO when I've finished... all the OTHER RPG's I have lined up, man, just so big a backlog for me this year..
My first paper Mario game was Super Paper Mario on Wii; and while it’s different from the first two games, it’s also excellent. After playing that one, I bought Paper Mario 64 on the Wii virtual console, and it was so great. I distinctly remember seeing Paper Mario in a Toys R Us and not purchasing it, because I thought it was a lazy design instead of a “cool 3D game” like Mario 64. I was such an idiot teenager.
For being the last full year of the Switch I would say this has been a more than adequate year. My favourite experiences are definitely TTYD, Splatoon 3 Side Order and Brothership. Haven’t played Echoes of Wisdom yet but I’m looking forward to playing it when I eventually get the time. While it has been quite hard at times waiting for the Switch 2, I would say they’ve done a great job ticking us over for now but man am I excited for 2025 now…
MySims Cozy Bundle was a total stealth drop for me. Friend got it for me for Christmas and damn it's been good to have something so wholesome and nostalgic in my Sissyphian life.
My favourite Nintendo Moment this year was _probably_ the Aardman Pokemon announcement leading me to find out that Aardman are doing a Pingu revival which was an announcement I hadn't noticed.
I think I like this annual review format on TopicArlo. The Super Mario Wonder skits were _outstanding._ But reviews on the year probably don't need to be highly scripted. Just an outline or something.
I completely agree!! Both have their place, and I am more than fine waiting for a good while for a greatly made main channel video, and having some nice potatoes with stuff like this on TopicArlo ^^
My Best Moment of NIntendo's 2024 was when the credits rolled for the Thousand-Year Door remake, and among the folks the devs were thanking, it said at the end, "AND YOU!", perhaps acknowledging your petition!
Favorite?: 1: xeboblade x announcement. The final game being free from wii u clutches. And extremely excited to replay it. 2: paper mario tyd. The reveal got me hyped and playing it as well. Now more people can experience that game. 3: metroid prime 4 reveal. How many years have i waited to see that. Hoping next year, they bring fire emblem radiant games over.
They could make an banger Fire Emblem bundle. The GC and Wii games, but also the games from older and handheld systems, too. I would love that, as my first FE game was 3 Houses, and now it’s one of my favorite genres. Speaking of, have you played Banner Saga? Those 3 games are also really really good. I bought a cartridge that has all 3 on it, and have played it through a couple of times.
My 2024 moment was how surprisingly dark and terrifying the final act of Mario And Luigi Brothership gets. Seriously. It's last act is actually existential nightmare fuel.d
22:20 It might be when I finished watching the June direct, thought "I guess it was alright", and then saw the Mario and Luigi trailer in my recommended that I had somehow missed entirely on my first watch. I also predicted both a new 2D Zelda and Mario Party before that direct so I felt pretty good.
Unpopular opinion: My BEST Nintendo moment of the year was the release of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. I love that series of games and I wish Nintendo would bring it back. This release gave me a great reason to replay the game that started off the entire series. I also went back and replayed Donkey Kong '94 (GB), which as we all know, is the predecessor to Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. I even went and bought the 10 amiibo needed to play the full Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge game on my Wii U! I really don't understand the hate for the $50 price tag on this game, especially when compared to The Thousand Year Door or Luigi's Mansion 2. Let me explain: This game is also COMPLETELY remade from the ground up just like Thousand Year Door. Unlike Thousand Year Door, it has 2 brand new worlds. They are big too. This game has significantly more content than the original, is completely remade with modern HD graphics, AND it cost $10 less than The Thousand Year Door. To me, all the griping is just because the Paper Mario franchise is beloved and the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong Series is generally disregarded, especially in the west. This is evidenced by the fact that Tipping Stars didn't get a physical release in the west. If The Thousand Year Door remake is worth $60, then the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong remake is undoubtedly worth $50. The Luigi's Mansion 2 release was $10 more than this game and has no new content and is just an up-res! So yeah, it goes without saying Mario Vs. Donkey Kong is far, far better value than that game as well.
Favorite announcement had to be Super Nintendo World opening in Orlando. I’ve been wanting to go there since it opened in Japan and then in California, but now having it closer to where I live has made it worth the wait to be there when it finally opens. I can’t wait to see SNW. Runner up was Alarmo because it was a nice reminder that Nintendo is still more about fun than just business.
My big Nintendo moment this year was definitely the Metroid Prime 4 trailer. Seven years of waiting were well worth it. I can't wait to finally play it.
My favorite thing from this year was without a doubt the amazing reveal for Emio: The Smiling man. The thumbnail alone, and the curiosity of what this mysterious game could possibly be. The theory crafting, watching all the Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame fans speculate. Only for it to be what everyone least expected, a new Famicom Detective Club. While I have yet to play any of the those games, the excitement I felt for fans really highlights this year. As cool as seeing Prime 4 was, I think that seeing a very obscure series get a beloved and deserved sequel was the best.
Loved watching the streams you did this year, seeing the various presentations of Nintendo! As for my favorite moment, I know this is kinda random but to memory it is when I got the timing pretty down to the first actual in battle abilities in Brothership, as it took me a lot of tries to consistently get “excellent” with it, that felt so good to be able to overcome that, especially with the back and forth button presses being hard for my mind to track for awhile! I definitely found this year to have more good games to play than expected from them, was very pleased! TTYD Remake was my first time playing the game and I love it so much, I love EoW’s interesting gameplay I had so much fun with it, Brothership so far for me has been incredibly fun and honestly I did quite like Showtime. Very happy with what was here from them this year!
splatoon grandfest was probably the best thing for me as a major splatoon fan. it was just such a good celebration of the series and it felt like the game was really at its peak. it was so amazing and special for me that the moment all of the idols came on stage to sing three wishes i literally cried lmfao
My personal #1 Nintendo moment was going to Universal Hollywood, the minute I walked through the warp pipe I was 5 years old again. Actual game stuff that released this year on the Switch, Lorelei & the Laser Eyes. It’s weird and smart from start to finish, leaves you guessing up to the final seconds, and made by the folks that did Device 6 on the iPhone (buy it if you have an iPhone, 100% worth it).
Personal 2024 Nintendo highlight was absolutely Paper Mario TTYD. They did a remarkable job! The paper visuals, lighting, new music renditions, and overall quality of life improvements between traveling and tweaks to badges were incredible. Somewhat surprised this wasn’t up there for Arlo since he was a key influencer to getting this on Switch (*thank you btw*)! But yes… took time off from work to play it. No regrets!!!
Emio - The Smiling Man turning out to be a Famicom Detective Club game was such a pipe dream announcement for me. Seeing the original Emio trailer, my interest was peaked. But lazily waking up one day to see it officially revealed as a FDC game was probably one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had.
My favourite moment is realising how well designed Mario Kart Tour is for making us part with our cash, with no end in sight. (You can stagger the subscription by 10 days or so within a single tour each time the month expires to save nearly half the price, though.) I also had great fun with Mario Vs. DK. Bought it used and traded it back so it only cost me 9 coin for a joyous experience 💫
My big Nintendo moment had to be Metroid prime 4 kind of, I had never played any of the Metroid games and seeing the teaser made me interested in them. So I’ve played almost all of them this year.
Ohh this was a good year. I watched the main Direct at work, and i could barely contain my excitement when they first revealed Echoes of Wisdom. And Nintendo Music has been great for me, as someone who doesn't subscribe to music apps or anything like that. I played a lot of gba games this year - got into metroid for the first time and visited some of the older fire emblem games. TTYD was a big plus to this year, too! I know next year is going to be really big, though. And my excitement for whats to come is immeasurable!
Game wise, it was a pretty decent year. TTYD's remake was everything I hoped for, we got Echoes of Wisdom, Princess Peach Showtime, Emio The Smiling Man, Mario and Luigi Brothership, and what has to be the best Mario Party in years. The Direct in June was also an incredible Direct and it was so satisfying to FINALLY see Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. Nintendo Music was also a good surprise. Its more than I expected. Marketing wise, this was a pretty frustrating year. They really dropped the ball big time. They had no Direct in February or September, and I still think they had enough content for one in September. It feels so wrong for there to only be one major Direct. Then they've been dragging their feet with the Switch 2 reveal. On top of all of that, Pokemon STILL hasn't said anything about Legends Z-A after nearly a whole year. This was just a very frustrating year marketing wise. I'm probably put this year above 2020 and 2018, but below 2023, 2017, and 2022. Somewhere in the middle with 2021 and 2019.
My best Nintendo thing this year was not released by Nintendo. Super Mario Eclipse is an incredible addition to Sunshine and is so good it would make Miyamoto blush. It is so ambitious and nearly perfectly polished. If anyone hasn't tried it out, I highly, highly recommend it.
It’s hard to decide between Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, Another Code Recollection, and Emio the Smiling Man. All three of them were long-awaited remakes/sequels for their respective series.
11:47 they are adding in a new game soundtrack every week, so they can add at least 52 a year. They'll catch up I think. I really like the format cause it gives me some time to listen to games I haven't played and am not that interested in, but might have a nice soundtrack nonetheless.
My Nintendo moment was the June direct. I had 0 expectations for what I thought was going to be filler content to get to the Switch 2 and was very pleasantly surprised!
Yeah, I agree. For the best Nintendo moment, if you are a Metroid fan to get not just a reveal trailer but a gameplay trailer after 5 years of silence since the reset was just hype af. And if you are a Zelda fan, specifically one that loves the lore of the series, what more could we want than for them to feed us more deep lore on a new entry. But I would like to add a 3rd, and that is the return of the Mario & Luigi series. However you may feel about the game, a series long thought dead returned, and though not perfect, it is still damn enjoyable. Superstar Saga will never be topped for me, but I do hope they give it another try.
I'm notoriously bad at finishing long pieces of media. TV shows, books, games, I just tend to drop them halfway through. I bought all three of the latest Mario RPG games. Got through like three islands in Mario & Luigi, didn't even start TTYD or Mario RPG. But when Emio came out, with its brief, episodic demo episodes, I dropped everything for a few hours each week to play. Bought the full game on day one and finished it. It was AMAZING. I rarely play games as of late, but that whole experience was just perfect.

Good recap. It'll be midnight soon here in Australia, so, um, happy new year to Arlo and all of you.
Switch in 2024 was WAAAAY better than the Wii in 2012
yeah, but that's like putting a bar on the floor for an olympic horse.
it's not a hard bar to jump over.
Don’t forget Wii U in 2016 too
Yep!
@@justintendo4302 I looked at all the first party releases in 2016 and while it wasn’t that good, they did try and released new content in that timeframe anyways. Shockingly it was less Barren than 2012 for the Wii for first party and Nintendo published games
@@Squidveemo forget not a high bar, there is no bar lol. that’s how bad the Wii in its last year was
My favorite Nintendo moment of year was this. I had been wanting to play Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story for the first time for awhile so one night I started Superstar Saga and the next day was the direct that opens with Mario and Luigi Brothership. Perfect timing
I really loved the echoes of wisdom announcement i couldn't wait for it to come out
This is officially the main channel.
2017 and 2023 seemed like the peak years for the Switch, as well as gaming in general. Hopefully 2025 can repeat that first year success.
2023 was killer. I've had the switch since it released and 2023 was the year I played it the most by far. For a console to be in its seventh year and have its best one yet is wild.
loved being able to go to a store and buy a new copy of ttyd
I couldve sworn Mario & DK as well as Luigis Mansion 2 HD came out last year. Time flies man lol
While it has been quite hard at times waiting for the Switch 2, I would say they’ve done a great job ticking us over for now but man am I excited for 2025 now…
Love that you added "please" to that final request for comments.
MySims Cozy Bundle was a total stealth drop for me. Friend got it for me for Christmas and damn it's been good to have something so wholesome and nostalgic in my Sissyphian life.
I played My Sims Kingdom multiple times on the Wii. Fantastic little game.
I really hope Danny DeVito plays Wario and Jim Carrey plays Waluigi in the next Mario movie
Nah Danny's voice wouldn't fit, unless he can make himself sound way more gravely and rough.
If Jim Carrey leaves Sonic to move to Mario, that would be the ultimate crossover
@@tylerfeichthaler3790the sonic films are supposed to be Carey's last films. There's a reason he's giving them his all😊
Im still waiting for a big fat review of totk
Favorite?:
1: xeboblade x announcement.
Yeah, wasn't expecting that kind of twist regarding what it meant by separation...
Hell yeah I just caught up on 2 vids from Christmas and now there’s another?!?!
i just got there so probably recency bias but man bowser's first show up in brothership put such a huge smile on my face
Just started echos yesterday. Now very pumped for this “story thing”
Happy New Year Arlo!
My favorite Nintendo moment of 2024: That one guy absolutely DELIVERING for the voiceover in the Mario and Luigi trailer
The final chapter of Emio and what happens after was the greatest Nintendo moment of the year. Wild stuff for them, and I appreciate it.
Nothing even comes close to the Donkey Kong Country theme park reveal.
I'm shocked TTYD HD wasn't Arlo's “One thing”
My personal #1 Nintendo moment was going to Universal Hollywood, the minute I walked through the warp pipe I was 5 years old again.
Actual game stuff that released this year on the Switch, Lorelei & the Laser Eyes. It’s weird and smart from start to finish, leaves you guessing up to the final seconds, and made by the folks that did Device 6 on the iPhone (buy it if you have an iPhone, 100% worth it).
Getting three Mario RPGs within 365 days was a pretty great Moment
Ngl this woulda been a good main channel video
My favorite moment was the final upload to Masahiro Sakurai’s video series. It was wonderful and something we can’t count on happening any random year
Great Stuff, as always!
My favourite moment is realising how well designed Mario Kart Tour is for making us part with our cash, with no end in sight. (You can stagger the subscription by 10 days or so within a single tour each time the month expires to save nearly half the price, though.)
I also had great fun with Mario Vs.
And my excitement for whats to come is immeasurable!
thank u for uploading this in time for being back in the office after the holidays ❤❤❤❤
So far, they seem to be adding new music to the Nintendo Music App every week - but not at the same day.
TopicArlo is already almost at 100K. That’s amazing
Splatoon 3’s Grandfest was amazing
the main channel is truly redundant at this point
Arlo talking about Nintedo? What's next, Peebs talking about Nintendo? Scott the Woz talking about Nintendo?
My moment was discovering and playing level 3 of TTYD while on a sleep in shift in the hotel I work at
Unrelated to everything mentioned in the video man Five Guys so expensive for no reason I just wanted to get lunch man
GOOOD MORNING EVERYONE
The pictures of Super Nintendo World in Orlando look fantastic
I noticed that Nintendo Music seems to be getting a new soundtrack every Tuesday.
We saw the return ALL THREE Mario RPG spin-off series in the same year, when none of them seemed likely to happen at all.
