ERC is kind of a social experiment to me. It’s like how much is someone willing to spend on a record that may or may not be the definitive pressing. It’s interesting that they exist, and cool to see them push those boundaries, but out of reach for 99% of us.

I totally agree! It’s fascinating to see how much people are willing to invest in something that’s so subjective. The world of ERC definitely raises some intriguing questions about value and passion in music.

How about enjoying the music and forgetting about the audiophile pressing. Having said that I’d love to have a copy of this record on ERC.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely agree that enjoying the music is what really matters. To me, a great pressing helps with the immersion, allowing me to feel closer to the energy and bringing the band into my room. However, there are plenty of "standard pressed" albums I absolutely love, and spin way more often than an "audiophile pressing."

Fun House is my all time favorite album but I don't recall Loose having any saxophone 🤔.

Man… you might be right. I took 5 pages of notes and tried to remember it all before filming. Apologies if I misspoke.

@@VinylLatte No problem. I have a few pressings as well as the Complete Fun House Sessions so it's pretty much etched in my brain. Great review by the way.👍

I think people forget Fun House is a rather well-recorded album. So is the debut. It's Raw Power (my personal favorite) which sounds like crap no matter what they do to it. Fun House is definitely worthy of this audiophile treatment.
And yeah, LA Blues has never been a favorite of mine either. Maybe I would finally "get it" on this pressing.

Fair point! But, let's be honest with each other.... I don't think any pressing will make sense of LA Blues 😉

My man, great review as always. Funhouse is a record that I recently discovered and man it kicks ass. The pressing I have is the 2010 Rhino reissue that was all analog cut by Ron McMaster. It sounds fantastic and it was only about $40 for a sealed copy. I’m curious though, what other versions did you compare it to.

It’s obvious from watching your videos and the records you buy that money is no object for you! That’s great!I would venture to say that most people can’t afford to pay 500 dollars for 1 record no matter how wonderful it sounds. Wish you would talk about more recordings that don’t cost a small fortune that most people can afford A lot of great 25 dollar albums out there!!!

Lol. I agree. I can afford too. I just won't. I just don't see paying that much for any reissue. It is IMO FOMO for people who like to show off more than just listen to music. Lots of psycho acoustics with a 500 dollar record.

Well it depends on how you define worth. The record has already been recorded so no costs there. I dont know what the cost of remastering or packaging are...my gut feeling is they could probably turn an ok profit on this at $75.00...but audiohile vinyl is going through a boom..the market allows them to charge $500.00. An example CD's in the UK were $20.00 new in 1992...that would be $45.00 today...but new CD's actually now sell for about $10.00....why? because the markets dissapeared. The actual cost of physical media is rarely dictated by the actual cost of the product/manufacturing... but wjat the market (ie supply demand) will allow them to charge..and thats not being snarky...thats just how capitalism has always worked..if the market feels that a copy of Fun House is 'worth' $500.00..then that what they can charge.

Boomer generation is the main purchasing power of these, over priced, reissues.

    • @VinylLatte
      @VinylLatte  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

You make a valid point about the economics of physical media. The value of something like this pressing of "Fun House" is indeed largely determined by what the market will bear. While the actual costs of remastering and packaging may not be exceptionally high, the demand in the audiophile vinyl market allows for higher pricing.
As you mentioned, the same principles apply across different products and industries. The shift in CD pricing over the years is a great example of how market dynamics change over time. I appreciate your insights on this, and it’s a good reminder of how supply and demand play a crucial role in pricing.

There’s no marketing data to support that claim, but it would not surprise me if you’re right.

Any decent rig say 5g and up should be able to get any sound out of any record. Personally, this is for money is no object people collectors, and boomers (people that can afford them). I go with the In Groove(and your) opinions on the ERC.

I don't disagree with your statement. I tried to emphasize at the end of the video that this album is for either the ultra fan or the collector for whom money is no issue. That said, I cannot deny that it's the best pressing I've heard of "Fun House." However, there are plenty of wonderful pressings available for a fraction of the price, and to even hear the subtleties, one must invest significantly in a HiFi system, further solidifying that this isn't for everyone.

There is ZERO mastering done to ERC releases - they simply spool the tape and cut directly to lacquers. A lot of people find ERC very enjoyable on the classical titles but the jazz and now rock titles they have been doing leave a lot to be desired from a “sound” standpoint.

Subscribed after enjoying several videos. Hoping this is an outlier? Just not much interest in hearing a review of something that I’d never consider since the business model speaks to a different (extravagantly affluent?) buyer that just ain’t me. Not knocking it, there’s different levels of liquor from brands depending on who they’re trying to reach, but this level of spend is just a bit off putting since it’s soooo extremely priced and (purposely?) rare. I’ll be back when there’s content that talks to me, thanks.

I personally I think it is crap and everything wrong with the hobbie. In the end it is music on a piece of plastic. 500+$ for an album is just laughable. FOMO and a sucker born every second.
