The Hermitage Bretzenheim, known as the "Rock Hermitage," is a historic site located near the municipality of Bretzenheim, Germany.
Originally a sacred site of pagan worship carved into the rock, this extraordinary place was later transformed into a Mithraic temple during Roman times. Subsequently, it underwent a conversion into a Christian monastery, believed to have taken place between the 6th and 8th centuries. Remarkably, it stands as the only rock monastery north of the Alps.
