    Im from Rio de janeiro. Born and raised in the favelas. And when i watch your into the hood vídeos and comment "that is not that bad", "this place is good" it's because that's the kind of environment I grew up in. the world is full of perspectives... btw, You may notice that Cracolandia is surrounded by the police, and wonder why they don't do anything, after all, there is literally an open sky for drug sales and drug trafficking crimes. Cracolandia is literally used for real estate speculation, the police at the behest of the rich literally move Cracolandia from time to time, from place to place to devalue properties and when these properties are purchased by big real estate companies police move cracolandia again to increase the value of the region again. It's much deeper than you imagine

      You don’t know what real poverty looks like is what you should be saying. There are people with problems everywhere. Maybe they'd look up to the guy wanting to learn English so they can escape their situation. I don't know. I just know where I live is an absolute shithole because of druggie neighbours and this man shouldn't be glamorising "hoods" but saying people have some serious issues in this society that needs attention.

    I lived here for a while, maybe 500m from there, still in the place. Although it looks extremely bad, the violence is very rare and mild (unless you are actively trying to film the guys selling drugs) and worst thing that can happen is that you get robbed and I’d say it’s still not as bad as the rest of the city. This is because the gangs control the area and have eyes posted up EVERYWHERE. In the beginning of me living there I got stopped by a member because I had a big camera and was walking around at night like nothing happened, and once I told them what I was doing I never had any problems ever. The drugs gangs don’t want ANY violence because that would be extremely bad for business, and violence towards tourist would only incite more police presence and crackdowns.
    I’d say just outside of cracolandia is WAY WORSE because that’s where they steal (Republica, Largo de Arouche, Praca de Se (this being one of the worst spots for theft), Bom Retiro, Santa Cecilia, some parts of Santa Ifighena….
    It’s a surreal place and very disheartening because some people just became near primal again due to their mental problems mixed with drug addictions, but this isn’t a problem you can stop easily, there’s an estimate of 7000 to 10000 drug addicts in Cracolandia.

    Brazil is the real deal when it comes to rough hoods. Cracolandia is the closest you get from a zombie land in this planet. You are very brave to even get close to this area walking with a camera, most people in Brazil wouldn't even get close with a bullet proof car.

    Lived in Brazil a number of years and in case you didn’t know, your playing Russian roulette… people get shot/killed all the time just going about their daily business (not just roughed up) and it also doesn’t matter how big you are. You look like a gringo from a mile away too which also puts another target on your back. Worst thing that could happen is a misunderstanding or a wrong move that gets you shot (they usually won’t hesitate). I would suggest just asking locals for stories rather than going looking for trouble. Not sure is worth the risk! Be safe!!!
    Oh - and be careful around the police too, especially ROTA(in SP) and BOPE(in RJ).. they don’t muck around

    • @viniciuskintschner
      @viniciuskintschner 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He does not look like a gringo at all, and it’s not a Russian roulette, you can search many good places in SP which is way better than this shithole and the chance of getting murdered is 0. Rota and Bope are the most respected police in Brazil, Bope is a elite level police which was awarded many times and it’s not usual to see a Bope on the streets, it’s compared with SWAT in the States, you can’t see one on the streets.
      I’m sure you are not Brazilian and just want some attention.

    Few years ago, my wife and I had a day-stop in SP. We arrived at Luz Station akd I suggested my wife to reach the historic center of SP by walking just to catch the city vibe. What an error ! We didn't get into crackolandia but we feel the this strange atmosphere, everybody was looking and yelling at us. Hopefully, we're from Algeria (North Africa), so brown skinned and similar hair and faces like an average mixed Brazilian. I said that because, we're tourists but not looking so much as tourists. In Brazil, people used to talk to us naturally in Portuguese as if we're also Brazilian. And it's probably what it saved us. I grew up in a french hood, but I swear I was impressed, stressed and under tension during this walk.

    Brazilian here 🙋🏽‍♀️ living in Australia! I’m so glad nothing happened while you were there, and thank you for recording this.
    Most people think our country is all about Rio de Janeiro and soccer, but unfortunately, they don’t understand the reality of our community in the day to day life.
    Cracolândia is a place the government has tried to destroy many times but lacks the support and resources needed to help those who could potentially grow out of this situation.
    The crime rate is insane, and you gotta watch your back at all times. I’m thankful for feeling a bit safer in Australia, and I hope this video educates whoever is watching and brings some gratitude to those who live in a country where you can easily go for a walk without waiting to be robbed.

      There's plenty to complain about in Australia. What about how nsw health has them syringes box vending machines outside of their community health centres where any junkie can show up to get their injection equipment to litter the entire neighbourhoods that gets washed down the drains and ends up on the beaches for someone to tread on without footwear. What about all the meth druggies who turn an average suburb into a shithole with high crime rates and thefts like you wouldn't believe so that you end up paying more with your insurance. Then what do you do? Become an alcoholic to deal with the madness?

    Welcome To São Paulo, Spanian. Just to clear out a couple of things, "Cracolândia" is the denomination for the gathering of homeless drug addicts, which first start in the 90's, exactly in that region you filmed and, then, got moved to other parts of the city, because the government tried to isolate them from this central area. So, long story short, there are more concentrations like that, not only in São Paulo, but in other medium/large cities and, as crazy as it may sound, this is not even close to be the most dangerous drug-related place in Brazil.

Most of the wealth generated in the favela is from drug-trafficking.

    A lot of people say we are lucky to live in Australia and not have to face this dystopia. It isn't luck. It is because our ancestors fought hard against injustice and corruption. If the rich had got their way, it would be much the same over here as it is in Brazil. In The Uk the fear of an uprising led to a National Health Service and a Comprehensive Education System. Unfortunately, because of the demise of solid working-class action things are beginning to get worse even in England. Who would have thought 40 years ago people would be relying on food banks to survive in one of the world's richest countries? It is inequality in wealth and resources that is the problem.

    We got one of those markets in The Netherlands close to Amsterdam, it's called Beverwijk's black market. There is a saying that goes; "If you enter Beverwijk market, by the end of it you'll find your own wallet and phone being sold at the last stalls..."

      He said “you can film there” pointing away but then immediately started saying “you can’t film me, why are you filming me”. Which is weird as he looks like a city worker, like someone who helps tourists, unless that uniform is stolen.

    I got proper vibes ofbeing in Bogota around Y2K, the zones you just cant go, and no matter what if you walked somewhere by day you didnt walk home at night...locals or tourists alike. Maybe less overt drug use than what youre seeing. Cool tour, thanks bro.

      Spanian isn't allowed in the US, UK. But countries like Brazil he's allowed. I've been to Brazil lots of times with a criminal record.

    • @chapmansbg
      @chapmansbg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Pandinha_au that is interesting, from what I read online, Brazil will not allow entry if they know you have a record, maybe if you don't tell them they won't know?
      It does make it more difficult though.
