When he was mayor of São Paulo, Fernando Haddad almost managed to dismantle the cracolandia with adequate and humanitarian public policies. But the Brazilian right has a predilection for violence and abandonment. This is also good for speculators who buy undervalued properties wherever cracolandia gathers.
I am from Los Angeles and i have also spent a few weeks in Sao Paulo even the downtown area close to this place. I can tell you LA is way worse. We have a downtown area similar to this "skid row", but then we have about 1000 mini crack-o-landias because the city doesn't mind of a bunch a meth/Fentanyl heads decide to setup tent on some random corner in some neighborhood and have a drug party. Also, these poeple sleep on public transportation in LA where in SP the don't tolerate that.

When people don’t have access to the necessities of modern life this what society will become regardless of which class you currently associate with. Greece is where this started back in 2007-9. It’s just spreading.
We have this in my country And it’s not close because of drug problem It’s closed because the government cannot do its work, and the police are so corrupt and under educated So maybe this is the reason Brazil
Many cities around the world have these types of areas for instance in Los Angeles they call it Skid Row, you have to understand that it's actually normal in society's that embrace Capitalism where everything has a price, you see not all people are able for one reason or another to work for money and they will have to have a place to go. Guns, germs, steel, and Capitalism is what the colonizers brought with them, and native populations everywhere have struggled with the concept for hundreds of years how one person can own all the property
This is a result of long left governance in Brazil. They keep these people in this situation. They need human misery to exist as a political party, to have a red blood flag.
Ofc it's the left is the one to blame when you and your companions have no solutions to solve this issue. Tarcísio isn't doing anything to solve it. Stop using political positions as a scapegoat and bring solutions to the table
The mayor and the governor have been right wing for the past 8 years and it only got worse When the mayor was a leftist this issue was infinitely smaller.

Essentially this is brazils version of skid row in Los Angeles. Very interesting how often the USA and Brazil experience parallels in their societies. The united states had an election related insurrection meanwhile Brazil did also. The USA had Trump as the president meanwhile brazil had Bolsanaro. The united states saw murder rates one of the highest in the world in the 1980s-1990s and Brazil now has some of the the highest murder rates in the 2000s. Both countries experienced a crack epidemic. Sadly brazils crack epidemic has lasted a lot longer than the USA's crack epidemic. Well actually who knows the united states has a major fentanyl problem right now and it's probably worse than the crack epidemic.
