  • Whether it’s people jumping the turnstile, unlatching easy-to-reach emergency exit doors, or hopping on a bus without paying, fare evasion is rampant across the city. NBC New York's Andrew Siff reports.

What about using the existing law-enforcement personnel to stop this practice ? Force the DA’s to actually prosecute crime just like we did when Giuliani and Bloomberg were in office. The cops don't care. There's been many times when I've seen cops open the gate or stand there and watch people stepping over the turnstiles. The problem is the cost of living here is too high and low wage jobs. Every year the fair goes up while many people are barely living. If the mta subtracts $15 off the weekly MetroCard and $30 off the monthly metro card and minimum wage is increased to $20 an hour, a great majority of fare evaders will begin paying their fare.

Those things are made of solid glass, within a week of them going up in Brooklyn or the Bronx they’ll be broken. You can have that thing make all the sound it wants but it doesn’t really matter if the guy is already through and on a train. Just put in a contactless system and rubber gates. Waste of Money, won't work.. They need a better system than that. They will completely run when the alarm goes off and no one will do nothing about it. Waste of Money... Not worth it.

That's the dumbest design they can possibly adopt, rush hour is still a thing right? If it stays open for 2 seconds you know someone will slip through. If it injured ANYONE, that's a law suit right there

How? How can you sue someone for preventing crime? If you steal and get hurt, that's your own damn fault.
