Have you gone yet? Our family will be going to Jersey shore and NYC for 2 weeks in August. Dad grew up there but mom and I haven't even been on a air plane 😂 hope your trip is/was amazing
I know on the iPhone and Apple watch, you can designate one of your cards as "Transit." That way, you don't even have to open your card on your phone or watch, but you just tap and go. My watch worked perfectly even through several layers of clothing, and I didn't have to even take out my phone. According to MTA, "We've also introduced a new weekly fare cap, which lets you cash in on your taps with OMNY. Take 12 paid trips in a week on the same device or card starting Monday, and ride free through Sunday, every week, automatically." This can save money for visitors, since if you take less than 12 rides, you haven't paid the full $33 for the 7-day unlimited.
17:00 The zebra sign is not there to confirm that the conductor is paying attention. The zebra sign is there for the conductor to confirm that the motorman did not overshoot or undershoot the platform. Before these signs were installed, it can be difficult for the conductor to determine if the entire train was in the station no matter how much attention the conductor is paying, especially in stations on a curve. If the conductor points out of the cabinet and the zebra sign is not there at all or the center of the zebra sign is far away from the conductor, this lets the conductor know that some of the doors will open onto the tracks instead of the platform if no corrections are made.
Wow, absolutely fantastic Megan, my family and I will be visiting the USA for the very first time in June and I was worried about using the subway, but your video has gave me much more confidence, so helpful and wonderfully presented. Booked my crown ticket’s yesterday after watching your video. Thank you for so may helpful videos.
As a newly turned local, this was super helpful because I am very reliant on Google Maps 😅😅 definitely wish that the monthly pass could be added to Apple Pay but we'll just have to keep waiting for that! Also have learned that hard way that if you swipe at one station, realize you were going towards the wrong direction, leave and swipe again, you'll get declined unless you wait a certain amount of time. But for what it's worth, the subway is worth it 99% of the time!
Ah yes! The having to wait is a super bummer! BUT I believe with apple pay you can just beep in as many times as you want. But, depending on how often you use the train, you can end up paying a lot more because you don't get the discount a monthly pass would give you.
Megan, you are a awesome teacher! I loved this video and learned what I needed to know. I am going to NYC to visit family this weekend and I really appreciate your video (as well as your others). Needless to say, I subscribed. You are very charming and informative! Thank you!
Terrific presentation! This reminds me of visiting London some years ago. At first I was terrified, confused and clueless about riding the Tube. Within a day or so I loved it! In fact, I ended up riding all over Greater London just for fun. I’m sure I would enjoy the NYC Subway, too.
Thank you Megan. I had to go find you on Instagram 😊, both me and my son are visiting NYC from London this August 2024 and your video content is full of important and useful information. Thank you ❤o
Also, it’s my first time traveling by myself and I’m going to New York I’m a little nervous but the videos especially including yours make me feel a lot better and $2.35 to get me from a ny greyhound bus station to Huntington New York
Very, very wonderful video, Megan. Incredibly informative and so extremely well presented. Your personality adds so much. You are sweet, bubbly, gregarious and funny. And so pretty.
This was extremely helpful. Thank you for doing this and giving step by step instructions! Now how can we get you to be our guide while in New York? :-) Thank you!!
You can visit my website at www.themegandaily.com to book a tour. Or you can fill out the "Custom Tour" option and I'll pair you up with one of my wonderful guides.
Thank you so much. This was very helpful. Just one question my wife and I are going to New York City in a few days. Where do we want to drive to to start the subway if we’re going to hit the Manhattan area? Thank you, Bob.
hello Megan. thank you for sharing information.so helpfull. One question please, from JFK airport i want to go to Baltic hotel at Brooklyn. what should i choose the subway colour and stop station in nearest destination. hopefull you can guide me , because this is my first time to New York. thank you. have a good day
Great video. As a foreigner I was confused by the ZipCode reference when paying by credit card. (Postal Code??). Another video pointed out that tourists should input 99999 here. Is that correct?
Great info for our first trip there in December. One question, you were in the subway that said the 2 & 3 train, how will you know which one is which when they pull in ?
Thank you for the video, it's very helpful. There is 1 question, when we on the train, how do we know we have arrived at our destination? For example, I'm start from JFK airport to end in Times Square, is there an indication on the train when the train stops in the middle ? (I'm Sorry if I missed it in this video). Once again, Thank you Megan & "Mr. Cameraman" 😍
I've watched a few videos but this has been the most helpful, visiting in October and can not wait. One question though, coming from JFK on what I think is the E line...this takes us across the map as opposed to up or down as you probably know already, is that considered crosstown orrr....?
Very informative, thank you so much! Just one question; Is Metrocard still available? Because I have got to know that the MTA would be scraping the Metrocard and its vending machines soon!
hi Megan. I am from China. I have to say the subway system is totally different. When I was in the US. I can be very panic. It would be very helpful to watch a video like this. This is the first time I watch a 19mins video and then I think that's all? I really want to know more !!! You way you explained is so pro!!! Still, I am confused with the map. Can you post a video to teach us how to read a map. It would be nice if you set a destination first and then talk about it
P.A. is 8th Ave and 40th St. Penn Station and the Moynihan Train Depot are on 8th Ave. and 33 St. You could walk. Or A or C lines at 42nd down one stop to 34th.
I’m catching the greyhound from Florida to New York when I get to the greyhound station can I catch a train from New York to Huntington? Is that possible? Like is there a train station close nearby the greyhound bus station?
Visiting next week from abroad and will be purchasing an unlimited metro card from one of the vending machines. 2 questions… 1) is atm card the same as debit card? We will be using a debit card and not a credit card. 2) as we are coming from abroad what do we put in for the zip code? Thanks
Please can you help? If i don't have contactless payment on my credit card do i still dip my card won't it ask for my credit card code before processing payment? Thanks
Thanks for this video!! Maybe you can help me - if I want to use ApplePay to ride the subway do I need to create an omny account? If yes, do I have to add the credit/debit card I want to use to my omny account before using or can I just use whatever card on ApplePay or tap a CC I want?? Thanks so much!!
Hi. Thanks for your help. I wondered what was the best train to take from 52nd and Broadway to the 911 museum. Looks like the apps are telling me two different places to go under the street. Afraid of going under and heading in the wrong direction to get downtown. Which is the closest station to the museum. Thank you for your posts.
Hello Megan. I live in Europe. Loved your clip, I'm going to be in New York for a short trip in a couple of weeks! ;)) Now I've heard like the MetroCard is going to be discontinued in 2023 and replaced by something else/new? Do you have a clip explaining that new way of travelling? :)) Cheers!
HI there, wonderful video. I know its a long shot but hoping you could help me out here. My family is going on a cruise leaving from Brooklyn cruise terminal. We leave this sunday 7/16/23. I assuming after getting into Penn station we would go to the subway to the 2 train and take it to wall street. from there walk to the cruise terminal... am i correct in that? is there an easier way?
Honestly, there’s now tap to pay which is by far my preferred mode of payment. You literally just tap your credit card or pay with phone the same way you would with Apple Pay.
If you put money on the card (as opposed to TIME like a week or a month) you can swipe the card four times. If you use tap to pay - you can use that as many times as you'd like.
Hello Megan. what a great channel is that:) You explain everything perfect. I have a question. Is it possible to use 7 day unlimited metro card for air train (from JFK to Jamaica Station) If it is not possible, can I add money a 7 day unlimited metro card:) Thank you
I believe the airtrain requires a separate ticket. I feel the rules are constantly changing, but when last I used it...you needed to buy a separate subway card for the airtrain.
How many times I can swipe it? I’m hoy with 4 people na di was thinking about getting the unlimited one and swipe it 4 times lol Is that even possible?
New Orleans 1.25 per single ride and u can ask for a transfer and it last about 2 hours to re use that same card , 3 dollars get u an all day pass to freely use in the bus , street car and ferry if u need to cross the river , so yeah new Orleans public transportation is way , way better than new York if u ask me
This the clearest explanation about public transport in NYC so far!!!❤👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
You just relieved a ton of anxiety about our upcoming trip. Thank you! You’re always a great teacher!!

Ah, you'll be a pro in a few days, and if you need help ask a local. Despite our rep for rudeness we're always happy to help😊
My wife and I are getting ready for our first trip to NY, and we love your videos! You have the best personality :) and we just wanted to say thanks!
Thank you so much! That means a lot!
How many rides can yoi use card for
You gave me inspiration to come to NYC, & use the subways. I’ve very old fashioned & I am not into change much. Thank you!
Oh my goodness girl, thank you for the tips. I'm visiting NY this Fall. You're vlogs remind me of the amazing travel expert, Samantha Brown ❤

This video is clear unlike others and covers payment. Now im confident to ride the subway! Thank you.
Love this detailed explanation! Amazing how NY-ers memorize most of the train routes
It truly is! I feel like I could recreate at least the Manhattan part of the subway train by memory!
Very useful and informative indeed!
WOW sbsolutely the BEST explanation - thank you a million!!! ♥♥♥

Are the buses included with metro card? Can I do apple pay with the bus?
I wanted to ask the same question. And what about trains within city limits, and other public transit things (I guess there are no trams though)
Can I use one card for multiple people. If yes I wonder how to swipe😂
If you put money on the card (as opposed to TIME like a week or a month) you can swipe the card four times. If you use tap to pay - you can use that as many times as you'd like.

The unlimited can only be swiped one every twenty minutes. HOWEVER, we not have tap to pay and you can do that however many times you want.
That should be "anywhere in 4 of the 5 boroughs", then plus the Staten Island Ferry.
Ah, you mentioned the ferry later. My bad, haha.
As we say on the railroad, "Ya do good work, kid!" Pointing and calling signals and signs comes from efficiency of Japan.
much like for pointing to conductors car
Han, much of Brooklyn and Queens it's 'to the city'. Not North uptown and South downtown AT ALL.
