I've got over a foot of white mold all over my lawn in Indiana, maybe once I see some green I'll start thinking spring 🙂 Can't wait to do some lawn work this year!
Awesome video. One question though... i understand the mixing ratios based on how big your yard is, but how does that relate to how much liquid you're putting in your backpack sprayer? Are you using the entire 4 gallons? If not, are you discarding the excess? If so, How do you go about that?
Hey man, I live in ATX! I am super happy I ha e someone with experience who I can follow. Bought a Ryobi 4gal sprayer, have a 4k size yard, and bought all the same products you use! I just started but I appreciate you very much! Could you please let us know which type of tip you use on the application? I would really appreciate it. Used the red tip today using Celsius and wg45 together. I started late but better than never. Scalped my yard and bagged last week. Wanting the grass to grow out and not up. Keeping it short. ThNks man! Xoxo you rock!
Awesome Austin! I like knowing local folks follow the channel. I used the longer tip red one. It puts out a little larger water droplet, which makes it better for soil apps. Prodiamine is taken in through the root system, so you want the product to make it to the soil. Celsius is actually a foliar app, so it would be better to use the finer mist tip, but you’ll be fine. I’ve mixed both types of products and used that longer tip several times.
Mine was close to 45 the other day with that cold snap lol. I need to pre-scalp this week to get ready for pre-emergent. Grass is a tad tall atm to toss it down.
Hey, Dallas Texas Here. What Are You Doing To Grow Grass In Your Backyard Along The House Where Shade Is? I Am Following Your Past Videos From Last Year To Get A Great Lawn This Season. Thanks In Advance.
I’m not going to do anything special there. I just have to wait until the sun stays in the sky longer and it gets warmer. It’ll come back, just a little after the other part of the lawn. I know that’s not the exciting answer, but unfortunately it’s hard to replicate what some good sunlight will do for you!
I’m in north Texas. It’s 3/3/23. It just rained like crazy last night. I’m going to put this stuff down, but how long should I wait because of the rain last night?
I would go out and do a mock application with just water and calibrate it that way. That’s what I did with my backpack sprayer, just on a smaller scale.
Hey Leslie! So luckily my lawn is about 4,000 sq ft and I have a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. Since my lawn is relatively small, I filled my tank with water a few times and tested the pace I needed to walk in order to evenly apply those 4 gallons over the entire lawn. Once you do that a couple of times, you’ll start to get a feel for pacing. A good rule of thumb is to try and apply one gallon of product per 1000 sq ft of lawn. Every sprayer is a little different, but after you’ve made your first few trial runs, it’s a pretty shallow learning curve in my opinion!
So if I want to cover 1000 sq feet, I should pour in half a gallon of water, then the product (5.2 grams), and then another half gallon of water. Is that correct?
It depends on where you are, but it wouldn’t hurt you to apply the Prodiamine now. If you’re having average soil temps around 55° it’s time to apply the pre-em.
Kind of a crazy winter this year with one cold snap, but mostly well above normal temps. The soil temperature has actually spent significant amounts of time over 55 all winter. Any tips on when to apply pre-emergent? Stick to early Feb? Although 95% dormant, I see significant green shoots in the bermuda and the miscellaneous random weed / poa. Did I already miss the ideal window and just it down ASAP?
Something I hadn't thought about before was unintended effects of pre-emergent. If it isn't stopping germination (which I agree with) but it is limiting cellular division and therefore root growth.... then what about a grass like bermuda that grows/spreads with rhizomes and stolons. Would it also stop that? I started cutting low last season and my grass made progress getting trained to grow low and get dense, but I think it might fill in further this year. Wondering if pre-emergent could affect this?
Great question! I’ve used it for a few years now without any negative effects. My understanding is that Prodiamine only effects seeds/roots of plants that aren’t established yet. This is why you aren’t supposed to use it on new sod. My guess is your bermuda will continue to fill in and get more dense as you continue to cut it low.
The sod at my home was just laid in August 2021, I've read some guidance that says to keep pre-emergents off it for the first 8-12 months. My neighbors yard is OVERRUN with weeds and it's spilling over into mine...what do you think? Safe for 6 month old sod?
If your sod is established, then it's fine. Meaning you can't see the lines anymore and you can't pull it up anywhere. If it's not established, you should hold off.
@@LawnInsider I appreciate the reply! The middle is good but fence/foundation lines aren't yet established I'd say. Thanks for making your vids btw, I'm also in central Texas between Austin and SA and they've been helpful :)
Usually it’s a lot cheaper going liquid, but in this case, not so much. It is a little cheaper per application, but not significantly. So long story short, because I already had the product haha
Very well done, excellent technique all around 👍
Thanks Allyn 🐐! Looking forward to new season!

@@LawnInsider Should be early to mid April hopefully once soil temps get into the 50s🙂

Yeah that was probably the coldest January we’ve had in awhile! Especially considering how mild we were in November and December.
Good demo!
Thanks brother! Getting geared up for the season.
When are you planning to do your spring scalp? Starting to warm up in Central Texas after that freeze last week
I’ll probably scalp either the last week of February or the first week of March.

Sorry I’m just now getting around to replying. Just until the grass is dry again, then you’ll want to water it in within 2 weeks.
Wish Lubbock was as green as your lawn!
We’ve gotten more brown since this video! We’ve had a cold start to the year. Nothing compared to up there I’m sure!
@@LawnInsider nothing like the 2021 freeze. Hope yall didn't have to go without power!
What Teejet nozzle did you use?
TeeJet AIXR11004VP in this video.
How would one figure how many tanks is appropriate. As if it was a 15k sq ft lawn. It would take more than just 4 gallons correct?

@@LawnInsider awesome! Thanks for the advice. Love the content. Helps us newbies lol
Hi great vid, what is the setting that you have ryobi backpack sprayer on?
I have an older model that I’ve souped up a little bit but it’s only got one setting.
How did you calibrate your spray system? If not calibrated how do you know the rate per sq ft in your case is correct?

What type of backpack sprayer are you using?
I have an older model Ryobi 4 Gallon Backpack Sprayer. It’s part of their 18V system.
So if I want to cover 1000 sq feet, I should pour in half a gallon of water, then the product (5.2 grams), and then another half gallon of water. Is that correct?
My label is in ounces, your order is right but if you’re putting out half the annual rate (.415 oz/1000) that would be about 12 grams I think.
Bermuda lawn currently has a lot of weeds and POA ANNUA. Just applied a liquid post emergent. How long should I wait before applying the prodiamine?
It depends on where you are, but it wouldn’t hurt you to apply the Prodiamine now. If you’re having average soil temps around 55° it’s time to apply the pre-em.

I sure do! I apply half of the max rate twice. Once in spring and once in fall.

Very confusing. Simple question. 1 acre. How much prodiamine into how much water? Thx
You would use 1 lb in 25 gallons of water.
Youre in Colorado aren't you.
