I watch a lot of sailing channels but on the TV, so rarely comment. This is the first sailing video that made me tear up, and I just had to come over to the pc to add comment. Barry, you are living the life so many of us armchair sailors can only dream about, may you pick up fair winds for the rest of your journey and continue to show the real side of sailing.
I'd like to add my thoughts here. I too am watching your videos in sequence from the beginning! You are living MY dream and I only wish that I could have the COURAGE to live those dreams myself. Instead, you are living them for me. I feel that I owe you my life's savings at this point!!! but alas I don't have enough to support my self. Bless you, you "old seadog"! Thank you so very much for you're contribution to the sailing life. You've made another old seadog very happy to bark in my sleep as the sails are flogging and the winds pick up! Sail on to the "NEW adventures of an old seadog"
71 days must be a record Berry ... for longest passage. The Pacific must love you as she seems to cling to you and doesn't want you to leave her. Glad to see you made it.
Correction Barry . Not only your friends and family were concerned about you but people all over the World . There are a lot of people that enjoy the videos you share with us and there is a lot of love and respect for you . Maybe all us followers should sponsor a Spot or some other locator that you could msg someone of progress .
Bloody awesome man I've followed you across the Pacific Ocean you've done a great job have strengths courage and resilience . Aroha Wattie n Ruth Newton by the Sea Maketu NZ
Single sailor, Barry Perrin, THE MOVIE!! Please!!!!🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙏😭 I almost "ugly cried" at the end. So grateful for your physical and mental safety. YEAH BABY!!🙌🙌🤘🤘
Damn it, Barry, you made me cry. Rock'n Roll, you rock BIG TIME. Well done on this passage, you really went through a TON of shit, well done on not giving up and making it there safely. It's so great that you are sharing this and showing that this is what can happen when you are out there. It's not always an easy passage and sometimes circumstances are just shit and you have to deal with it. 71 days.......WOW. I remember when you were starting to be overdue and we all started wondering where you might be and if you were okay. Everybody started asking if we had heard anything...Maria and I talked about you many times but we trusted you were well because no other feeling had reached us yet. Ah Barry, what an adventure. I am proud of you that you dared to do this and that you had the strength to go through it once you were out there. Very inspirational, my friend.
Been out of touch for weeks in the atolls. Just got some internet and saw your comment. Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I am still now finding out how many people were looking out for me while I was 'missing'.I managed to see your new video. All the best with your adventure south. I miss you and hope you and Maria are well and happy.
Found your channel a month ago and have been spending all spare time watching from the beginning. 20 May 2024 and I am here. I've read several comments before adding my own. Yes, tears in my eyes in sympathy with yours.
When I was a kid, leaving in my homeland of Portugal, stories abounded around the fireplaces (the stories seem gone now, I think they shame us with the way we behave lately) of the epic voyages made by our ancestors not just against storms and tormented capes but beliefes of monsters and a flat world where the sea fell off its edges. Well, storms subside, capes, as they are rounded turn from torment ones to capes of good hope (and there were many) and Vasco da Gama, eventually made it to India. Even the myths eroded and sea monsters became the magical great sea dwellers we call wales and eventually Fernando de Magalhaes fleet, navigating westward circumnavigated the Hearth, disproving the flat world beliefe. Of all the "Barcas", " Naus", Caravelas", Frigates and other vessels foundered full of man by the thousands to achieve such an epic endeavor of giving new lands to the known world , the stories told were the ones of the suffering by "marinheiros" of long voyages that seemed to have no end. You, amigo, and your story will be added now to the stories of great seaman I will be telling my grandchildren.
Hope all is ok you old bastard! I'm a retired Canuck SUB here in Thailand wishing I was there. Having a frosty "London Pride" beer I found in an expat shop and was thinking about you...All the best and carry on...you're a natural. I admire what you're doing and don't get discouraged old buddy! I'm sure you'll run into some familiar faces sooner or later. Cheers.
An amazing journey Barry. Truely inspirational. The emotion of seeing air rescue finding you was palpable. After all that time knowing how much you mean to everyone and that you are not alone on this planet, that there are others who will come and look for you. Bless the French search and rescue team. Safe travels.
we thought of you every day during your journey. we always believed in you. congratulations for your outstanding performance. the video recordings with the plane are really emotional. we love you barry.
That they found you... we musn't forget... You, that tiny speck of encrusted white, smartly steaming at your best. Those aviators are angels too, we must not forget.
Behold the man and his boat. What a crossing. My heart was with you. I joined you in your tears of gladness. I'm with you on your plight. Behold the man and his long voyage alone in the big blue. Behold I share those experiences with you. Fret not, remember when and heeve to . Rest your weary eyes for the sea has not been your demise. Behold the man you are. Blessings to you oh sailor of the sea sharing your heart and voyage for all to see. God love you Barry. My tears were with you in your joy and triumph.
The Old Sea Dog pulls it off! 💥⚡️👍🏼😄 What an incredible journey so very well told. Capt Perrins, I'm sure your dear departed Father was looking down on you as those islands rose up over the horizon, and saying to himself - "Good God, my lad has done it, he just sailed across the bloody PACIFIC OCEAN on his ace! Well done my boy, well done!!!" And he would no doubt have had tears in his eyes, as most of us watching you did. Good on ya Mr Perrins, you put on a darn good authentic show for us all, thanks as always for sharing, sending you a big cheers & congrats! 🍻💪🏼💥👍🏼😄🙏🏻
Barry you still did better speed on your crossing than the original Kon-Tiki expedition so great job you old seadog! I could feel the love in your heart for those who cared enough to send the French rescue for you... very powerful stuff my friend!
Berry your "mellowness" is an inspiration. Watching you there is this tune that runs thru my head: "Weigh hay and up she rises, weigh hay and us she rises, weigh hay and up she rises so early in the morning........" Be happy, be safe.
So touching when you saw that aircraft. I simply can’t imagine what it must have been like all those weeks at sea. Talk about getting into your head! Good on you mate!
You had me break into tears on this one, wow. I really began to feel what you were going through with this video. I've never been alone for anywhere near that length of time with no way to contact friends or family. I'm sure that experience alone has changed you in ways you don't even know yet. 👍
Congrats on your channel Barry, after this episode you are ,surely a heavyweight in you tube, I reckon more of us than care to admit, welled up between 16:55 and 17:35. We are with you all the way, please continue on...
Without realizing, I am caught up in this program, so much that I got choked up when Barry got choked up. What a gem of a person and a terrific show. Cheers.
If not for the fact that we tend to receive your Vlogs 'after the fact' most of us would have worried about you in situations like your Pacific crossing Barry. Even though I knew you were safe from subsequent episodes I got a bit emotional when you did mate, well done for enduring one of the hardest slogs anybody is likely to encounter in life you are as tough as the hull of your beloved yacht! As a sort of footnote one of my favourite books as a boy was 'The Kon Tiki Expedition'. The book is the narrative of a Scandinavian bloke named Thor Heyerdahl who re-enacted sailing across the pacific from South America to the Polynesian islands on a raft. The voyage was made on a traditional South American Indian raft made of Balsa wood logs and began with harvesting the logs then floating them to the sea via a river and building the raft using traditional methods. The object of the project was to prove that native peoples from South America could have populated the Pacific Islands. One of the things expedition members noticed during the voyage was was that significant numbers of large flying fish struck the side of the cabin virtually every night. It is probable therefore that the flying fish you found on your deck in the mornings actually flew there rather than being deposited by waves! :)
I started watching these videos about two weeks ago and had to stop and go back to the beginning. I have have now watched all of your videos since the beginning of your voyages with Shadow. This has been an amazing adventure! Thank you so much for sharing this story with us! I haven’t watched any “regular” tv in ages now. This is by far better than any of the garbage they put on tv. I’m so glad that you and shadow are safe. I can’t wait to see what happens next! All the best Barry. Fair winds and following seas mate!
Don't know what the limitation was, but why not take down the sails since you're drifting anyways. Then scrape the bottom as best you can. Since out in the open, you'd want to be tied on to a harness for safety. Awkward and maybe tedious, but better than 1.5 knots for 71 days. Same goes for the rigging. If you're drifting anyways, down with the sails, loosen up the rigging and fix her up. Maybe I am not seeing the full picture but that would be a game plan I would consider if I wasn't going anywhere fast anyways.
As an Ex. USCG SAR Boat Coxswain I handled many overdue vessels. Glad your okay and congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment. Less then 1% of the worlds population have done what you did. You should be proud of yourself. Captain Gill
holy crap bazza if you ever quit being a sailor you could go into movie editing, that bit with the transition from the plane to the bird to the land with the matching music was pretty epic!
I wouldn't be surprised if they make a Hollywood production out of this... A bit like Cast Away, but different. Man, the feelings when the island popped up, just after showing the gulls. Got me going.
We hear all the time on the news "rescue teams could not find....". It is very cool to see a case (representative of the majority) where they went looking and found you. So glad you were OK. Rotten luck on the weather, I am pretty sure you could have rowed it faster. ha.
Absolutely incredible. I’ve never known any who deserves a beer and a pizza more than you my friend. My hats off to you and the French search and rescue services. Merci.
This is a good reason to have an Inreach satellite comunicator for around 30 $ per month. At least you could let your loved ones know your situation.I hope you have lots of beer and Pizza . God knows you deserve it. Great voyage. I wasn't worried about you at all. Cheers and well done !
What an amazing video ,I too was in tears ...so happy you made it. This video should definitely be on a TV channel as it’s better than any other rubbish we look at. One of the best I’ve seen ...
OMG, I can't imagine the relief you felt hearing a human voice and seeing land. The tears are falling for joy and your pain. I am so glad you made it! You are such a rock and such a trooper, it was inspiring.
I made it to episode 124.....at 1:30am... went to get some sleep, but dreamed all night about how much of your next port of call time will be spent catching up on repairs and replacing stuff. When I woke this morning I was glad I am at the present time boatless, but I wish I were there in port to help you repair your boat.
I’ve never seen or heard of anyone taking that long to cross. Way to keep your spirits up, Barry! I hope to do this myself one day. The Fall and Rise of Barry Perrins
All Sea Dog I wish I was out there with you mate I really think you're going to love this episode cuz I do I have a 1964 custom 64 ft catch I can't wait to see you out there see you soon my friend.
I'm a bit late to the party but watching you on your journey was fantastic. Whoever is cutting onions needs to give it a rest. Well done to you and thanks for sharing. All the best. I'm gonna go blow my nose.
There wasn't a single one of us that didn't check every day for word of your arrival. I'm positive that had we known you were going without a satphone , if we all just pithed in a dollar a piece, you would have been able to get the best. I'm sorry I didn't know or I would have started a campaign for it. You are still a remarkable man mate.
So glad you made it through with the issues you encountered, Barry! This proves you are a tough ol Sea Dog and can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Congratulations Barry!
Amazing Episode! Forget politics, religion or global differences. This is what living on this wonderful plant is about. Almost everyone has a mate called Dave, but not many have a Dave like yours. Hats off to the French Polynesian Coast Guard as well . I take from this, live while your here.... 👍
Well done Barry! It is so frustrating when you cannot make the yacht do her normal thing and all your supporters wonder if you've been swallowed by the Pacific! You must have had the scraper in hand as you dropped the pick in Hiva Oa! And the beer yips! Great series of videos across the Pacific!
Wow! I have no words. I've watched several other crossings on youtube, none single handed and none that suffered your bad luck. Hats off sir, hats off.
Bazza you bugger, that's the second time I got something in my eye wathcing your videos. Well done and BTU for making it across the Pacific. You ever get to Thailand call me, there'll be several cold ones waiting......
I’m 55 and hope to be sailing full time in 5 years. You are truly an inspiration. Wish I could sit over a beer and pick your brain before hand! Congratulations captain!
Barry, hell of a passage. Quick question regarding Sails. Why the reef in light winds, secondly , maybe pick up a used cruising spinnaker. It would help drive forward, less flopping sound and manageable in under 10 knots by yourself Great video. It's not all lollipops and rainbows. Fair winds and hope the rest of the pacific treats you nicely
wow, how powerful this series has been, to witness the raw emotion was very sobering.. to watch not only his battle with the conditions but also his battle psychologically.. this without doubt is probably the best series i’ve ever watched,, i can’t speak highly enough about this series.. i tip my hat to you sir, you should be so proud of what you achieved..
You are such an inspiration to me. So many people could have left out the emotions and just showed the journey. You are a true explorer and a role model to so many out there. Thank you for sharing!
Dude! You are so good!!! You are the most bravest and the strongest man!!! 71 days at sea by yourself !!!! Young people and adult people can not be even close to you! You are a Bad Ads! Good Man!!!!!!
Another unasked for comment, I hope you don't mind. I have found that a scraper firmly attached to a broom handle can help remove SOME of the uninvited guests attached to the bottom of the boat. Enough to slightly improve SOG. Congrats on a successful landfall mate!
You reminded me on this crossing of the raft Tikki! You did it under adverse conditions and accomplished it. I was so happy to see the French arrive at your location to pass the good news to family and friends. It was a joy to see the islands come come into view.
Amazing, simply amazing. Anyone thinking of sailing needs to see your video. There are sooo many videos of when all goes well. Most are. Your story tells the truth about sailing when thins go wrong. Completely wrong. Thank God you made it and you definitely manned up.
Glad you made it mate. Just an idea my old sailor dad told me-if at sea and you get that sort of growth anything helps. Of course if we all were 25 and had big balls we could rope off in calm seas and scrape it off. Being respectful of old age, he'd take a old braided dock line. start at the bow. Loop it over and basically saw it back and forth. Don't try and do the whole boat or you'll wear yourself out. Do it in chunks-but the scraping action will knock a big chunk of that crud off the bottom.. You can even work out angles, and get an amazing amount off. even the keel. If you attach scraps of rages, an old bucket, and the best thing punch a hole in your bean cans and lash them to the rope, you name it, it can really help scrap the bottom. That looked like 2 knot accumulation. Seen worse of course.. We used to do this if the jelly fish were too bad to get in the water..Fair winds....you're a tough old bird for sure.
There were so many of us that were getting worried about you but because we had come to know you via your videos we were not yet panicking when the good news that you had been spotted in the fly by came to us via David and your family. That was quite some odyssey Barry. You are TRULY a Seadog.
You survived a harrowing trip set with many delays.. But you made it. I guess when the best you can do is 2 to 4 knots.. you have to ask yourself 'What did the snail say when riding on the turtle's back?' Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Anyway Barry.. what an amazing trip.
I read most of the coments & agree,it was heart wrenching/emotional/exhausting ,emotionally & phisically & much much more...you've earn't a good rest......what can l say....WELL DONE.... just.... WELL DONE....CHEERS
Barry, just rewatched this after a couple of years. In my humble opinion, it’s probably the greatest video ever on any of the TH-cam sailing channels.
Agree
I watch a lot of sailing channels but on the TV, so rarely comment. This is the first sailing video that made me tear up, and I just had to come over to the pc to add comment. Barry, you are living the life so many of us armchair sailors can only dream about, may you pick up fair winds for the rest of your journey and continue to show the real side of sailing.
Thank you so much
This. You are living my personal dream. Thanks for the inspiration Barry.
Yeah this channel is the real thing
True!
I have to say, the tears were running down my face 😂
Skipper Bob You were not alone Skipper ☺️
This is actual the second time I watch this.
And still my eyes fill up a bit.
Fair winds ,,,/),,,,
You made it Barry ! be proud that's an amazing achievement.
Time for Beer and Pizza and perhaps a Whisky ....:)
No wonder Hollywood is dying; how can they compete with this?

When i saw the french airoplane i couldn't hold back my tears,
you truly are the Alpha Seadog! Ride on!
Wow. We did 26 days from San Diego to Hiva Oa in '82 and it felt like a lifetime. I can't imagine 71 days...and solo. Bless you Barry.
This was the single best sailing video I've ever seen. I'm glad I pay my taxes now that you had this aircraft passing by. Cheers from France.
I love the raw video format. So much more enjoyable than the highly produced stuff.
Bloody awesome man I've followed you across the Pacific Ocean you've done a great job have strengths courage and resilience .

The Old Sea Dog pulls it off! 💥⚡️👍🏼😄 What an incredible journey so very well told. Congrats Barry I was getting worried about you it’s time for Beer and Pizza
Barry - this is such an emotive set of videos. You have given a window on the human condition and embody the explorer spirit. Thank you.
Terrific man teaches everyone about how to adapt to what you have in front of you

Why is this not a major movie already?! Bill Murray would kill in this role. This is the real deal! Thanks for sharing!
You had me break into tears on this one, wow. I really began to feel what you were going through with this video. I've never been alone for anywhere near that length of time with no way to contact friends or family. I'm sure that experience alone has changed you in ways you don't even know yet. 👍

This is real sailing. Thank you for this, too many people upload sailing videos making out its all blue seas and Netflix. This is reality.
You're a hell of a tough sailor coockie monster ! Glad you made it...
Finding the truth and dry humor very refreshing! Living the dream and the nightmares that are true sailing! Sending you the wind Gods!

I worked on that scene for a long time to capture my feelings. Am so glad that you noticed. Thanks so much.
3.6.21 Oh my dear sea friend, single handedly no... The Creator of the sea kept you safe in a place you chose to be🤠 God speed in all!
That's a man with the strength of spirit.
I wouldn't be surprised if they make a Hollywood production out of this... A bit like Cast Away, but different. Man, the feelings when the island popped up, just after showing the gulls. Got me going.
Extremly well done Barry! You showed it can be done with basic
equipment, good planing and seaman ship! Congrats!!!
Good planning would have included a sat phone.
you made me so emotional that my eyes got wet and I am 68 years old sailor retired on Caribbean island of Grenada. I admire you.
We hear all the time on the news "rescue teams could not find....". It is very cool to see a case (representative of the majority) where they went looking and found you. So glad you were OK.
Rotten luck on the weather, I am pretty sure you could have rowed it faster. ha.
Wow!!you cant get a better introduction to a TH-cam channel then starting of with this series. Great stuff sir. Stay safe out there.
Absolutely incredible. I’ve never known any who deserves a beer and a pizza more than you my friend. My hats off to you and the French search and rescue services. Merci.
This video should have 100 million views and an Oscar.

What an amazing video ,I too was in tears ...so happy you made it.
This video should definitely be on a TV channel as it’s better than any other rubbish we look at.
One of the best I’ve seen ...
Wow. Several million $ buys an amazing yacht but it doesn’t buy characters like you. Well done.
Barry! You're what Mankind is made of, an inspiration to all other Mariners and Venturist's alike.🇳🇿👍
I’ve never seen or heard of anyone taking that long to cross. Way to keep your spirits up, Barry! I hope to do this myself one day. The Fall and Rise of Barry Perrins
Your best film yet, mate! I had goosebumps when sighting land. What a gruelling experience you had. Glad to see you safe.
I thought you were going to say you were pregnant like everyone else
HA!!!!
LOL!!!
HAHA!
Spot on
Ha ha ha that a good one... That is all that is missing now :)
WOW! 71 days?! You’ve got HUGE balls my friend, GOD bless you.
Amazing Episode! Forget politics, religion or global differences. This is what living on this wonderful plant is about. Almost everyone has a mate called Dave, but not many have a Dave like yours. Hats off to the French Polynesian Coast Guard as well . I take from this, live while your here.... 👍
Atheism.
Coolest thing on the planet, a super jet from the French give you a fly over. That was beautiful.
Dam good show that man, epic achievement, would stand you a beer and lunch at any port.. congratulations on making it.... safe and sound
Wow...this video left me almost speechless. You have the strength and courage of a lion.
Hi Mark, Thailand at some point in the future. Cheers.
It would help drive forward, less flopping sound and manageable in under 10 knots by yourself
Great video. It's not all lollipops and rainbows. Fair winds and hope the rest of the pacific treats you nicely
I think he was concerned about the clevis pin on his forstay.
Gary Souza I meant at the beginning of the video, before the clevis pin issue.
I am watching the whole series start to finish, and this is the best episode so far. Made me laugh and cry, cheers, Barry
wow, how powerful this series has been, to witness the raw emotion was very sobering..
to watch not only his battle with the conditions but also his battle psychologically..
this without doubt is probably the best series i’ve ever watched,,
i can’t speak highly enough about this series..
i tip my hat to you sir, you should be so proud of what you achieved..
You are such an inspiration to me. So many people could have left out the emotions and just showed the journey. You are a true explorer and a role model to so many out there. Thank you for sharing!
Soooooooooo glad you arrived! You’ve become a cross between Slocum and The Old Man And The Sea!👍✌️😊🙏🏼
A lot of folks around the world care about you Barry. Congratulations on a successful passage and take care.
Dude!
You are so good!!!
You are the most bravest and the strongest man!!! 71 days at sea by yourself !!!!
Young people and adult people can not be even close to you!
You are a Bad Ads!
Good Man!!!!!!
When that French rescue jet flew over you, my eyes were wet. God bless your friends, for reporting you overdue. Such a relief.
This has got to be one of your most scary sails yet. Hang on my friend.
Another unasked for comment, I hope you don't mind. I have found that a scraper firmly attached to a broom handle can help remove SOME of the uninvited guests attached to the bottom of the boat. Enough to slightly improve SOG. Congrats on a successful landfall mate!
Exceptional accomplishment! That ending... you've inspired me to go sailing. Thank you for that!
Poor decisions, missing understanding of physics of sailing, poor planning of trip.
Those are a few I can point out without sound disrespectful.
You reminded me on this crossing of the raft Tikki! You did it under adverse conditions and accomplished it. I was so happy to see the French arrive at your location to pass the good news to family and friends. It was a joy to see the islands come come into view.
Wow! That was emotional! I can't even imagine all the feelings you went through on that journey. I choked up when you finally were spotted. Great job!
Amazing, simply amazing. Anyone thinking of sailing needs to see your video. There are sooo many videos of when all goes well. Most are. Your story tells the truth about sailing when thins go wrong. Completely wrong. Thank God you made it and you definitely manned up.
Well done, your strength of character, the emotions, we've all been with you on this one.
Barry. I've watched from the beginning and hate when episodes end. This episode on the other hand was good to finally be over!
Well done my old friend good to see it was a happy ending
Cheers.
Very touching. Thank you, Barry, and thank you for being well.
I read most of the coments & agree,it was heart wrenching/emotional/exhausting ,emotionally & phisically & much much more...you've earn't a good rest......what can l say....WELL DONE.... just.... WELL DONE....CHEERS
