Old Sea Dog, I just found you on TH-cam and I am very grateful that you put so much time and effort into letting us tag along on your voyages. I retire in a few years and I am learning to sail so I can one day hit the open seas. You show us how it really can be out there, no wind, equipment breaking down, and it is way more important to me than watching a fluff and puff family sailing on a 2 million dollar cat showing only the highs and never how it really is to sail. I tried to do what your doing in Aug1999 to Nov 1999 , after three hurricanes we abandoned off North Africa 250 miles short of the Canaries. The first was hurricane david had winds of 50mph gusting to 90mph , 45 ft + waves with some breaking over us. I was in the cockpit hanging on to the wheel under water with my feet above me due to a wave breaking over the boat , causing the whole boat to be pushed down into the ocean We losed both rudders of our plywood 28" Bob Cat built in 1954. I had done a three year 80% rebuild. The 3rd hurricane finished us off the new rudders & rudder stocks were ripped out of the stern causing us two large holes . I so enjoy seeing you managing your adventure through your up's & few downs.So a big thank you for sharing .

Spent 2.5 yrs on Carriers in the late 80s early 90s, we did 97 days on one crack, I feel your pain, but loved every second at sea and I'm a Marine...lol

I have a grand banks 36 twin diesels....the main thing about a diesel is clean fuel with no water, and has to be primed to get out air bubbles, the best water separator is a Racor 500MA10, I have one on each engine. get one for your boat and get rid of or put in line with one you have now and you shouldn't have any more probs as long as you change filters, and you will see water at bottom of bowl, which you can drain with a turn of a valve in 2 seconds, the filter is 3 times size you have now, there should be a bleeder screw on your injector pump where you open a screw and bleed the air out of the fuel lines, this is a huge reason it is hard to start if air is in the lines... and remember diesels ignite on compression, not from a spark plug, so now imagine air in just one of the pistons and that's when you crank and crank with just spitting....when you get out in the swells all that rust and algae and crap gets all shaken into the fuel lines and you just dont have a good enough filter to get rid of the water and rust etc so it farts and quits from water in lines, I have a good friend who is diesel mechanic taught me all this so I could work on mine, I hope this helps and get the filter, ask around the marine, almost all power boats have the racor 500MA10 water seperators on them, it has a unique design...….and throw some sea foam injector cleaner in your tank once in a while, actually you put it in the racor for full strength...….good luck.....those birds still laughing and shitting all over your deck? they must think it's the poop deck? actually the birds are in the head, the old galleons etc you took a crap at the bow which was the head of the boat, some sea dog told me that

I laughed out loud when I saw the extent of your bird colony! Charlie and that french speaking bird you travelled with out of Panama, must be spreading the word around. I can just imagine them laughing their heads off at you. Just as well they weren't magpies! That music worked really well with the dancers. Probably better than the original!

The trailing edge of the sail has spent most of its life flapping in the breeze, the rest of the sail may still have some strength! Stick on patches with corner stitching may do the job. Good video Barry, love those " cheeky" birds.
