In the second book of the Vampire Chronicles it was confirmed that Lestat is bisexual. He lost his virginity to a girl from a traveling circus and was hopelessly in love with a man named Nicky when he was human. After he was turned into a vampire he flirted with most of the women he came across and enjoyed the blood of beautiful young men and women. He has had many small dalliances through the franchise from both genders but Nicky and Louis are Lestat’s most prominent male lovers ( and the two he has been closest with) and his most prominent female lovers were Akasha and a witch from… I think the seventh book in the series?
Louis is an interesting case because in the books he had a psudeo romantic interest in a human woman he befriended as a vampire and then his romances with Lestat and Armand.
Due to the heavily queer nature of vampires in Ann Rice’s work many feel that her characters are biromantic, since blood drinking works for both genders and it leads to a steamy chemistry.

Human Claudia would not have survived. She might've had the plague as well & no one would've taken her in. Orphanages at that time were mostly overcrowded & underfunded, usually preparing the children for work. There were also work-houses where you toiled until you died. Claudia actually had a luxurious life for many years, even though she could never age. But I also wish she could've at least been given Madeleine as a 'mother' & moved on.

Vampires become more powerful as they age, which is why Louis has more strength in the present than in the past. There is also a vampire code in which it is forbidden to kill vampires and also convert children, the elderly and the disabled. Fun fact: For the actors who played vampires, especially Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Antonio Banderas, they were hung upside down until the veins in their faces popped out, and then the makeup artists would go over the veins with a special marker/pen to draw the lines, then they'd add the pale foundation makeup on top to give it that effect. Actors typically spent upwards of half an hour upside down for this purpose every single time they did makeup until the artists mapped the veins and drew themselves a guide to speed the process up.

I attended Anne Rice's Halloween party shortly after this opened, and she talked so much about how much she adored Cruise here. I agree -- this will forever be my favorite Tom Cruise performance. He's just so loose and sensual and having a blast, and I love the blonde hair and how it frees him. He's usually always so compact and uptight as an actor, so driven and boxy, but here he is this long languid elegant line. And Cruise did dye his hair for this (he made Jordan film test him with blonde hair and reports were that Nicole Kidman was so thrilled with his blonde look -- and then the extensions -- that the hallway echoed, bless her heart).
In case it helps, it is very clear in the books that Louis and Lestat are vampiric lovers (although, in her world, vamps can't have sex, but they experience it through the bite, etc.). Director Neil Jordan is also very gay-friendly and directed The Crying Game (highly recommended).
Claudia's loss is a real loss. As many noted, Rice lost her little daughter very young, then after grieving, wrote INTERVIEW in a month while drinking the entire time. The vampire "Swoon" is the "swoon" of intoxication. She recovered afterward but I think it's an important detail.
I personally love the ending and how the movie improves it over the book. I also loved how Jordan incorporated "The Vampire Lestat" elements (sequel) into this, like that vampires can fly, read minds, etc.

    1. When Lestat danced with the dead corpse
    2. Claudia and the dead Creole woman
    3. Dead piano playing Lestat

      @nguyenngoc-ee8lc 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I don’t think Lestat hated Claudia, in fact he’s quite fond of her to be honest. He took advantage of Claudia to trap Louis but really spoilt her at some point and even getting hurt by her hatred toward himself. Even when Louis and Claudia tried to kill him, not once but twice, he still had no intention of killing any of them
And for sure, Claudia is a woman trapped in a child body, she grew attached to Louis as a woman to a man, but since she’s forever remains a kid, she vented her anger on the one who caused her that pain-Lestat
Lestat and Claudia somehow resemble each other personallity wise, no wonder they’d like the same man:)))

Aging Claudia so drastically is my main issue with the series, lol. Armand was turned when he was in "the flower of adolescence", so teenaged Vampires were obviously a thing. But Claudia being 5-6 yrs old was Lestat thumbing his nose at the rest of the vampire world. This was his so-called "worst sin." Making her a teenager kind of takes the teeth out of this big bad sin. ... Also... Watched his own mother die and turned her at the last because Gabrielle was the *only one* who understood him. Lestat is more tragic than Louis, imo.

This movie came out when I was in college and it was Everything! At the time it was all about Tom and Brad, but Kirsten Dunst remains the best part of the movie. Tom Cruise used to be so much more interesting and liked playing characters that challenged people's perceptions of him, but I don't think he would ever make this movie today.
It *was* nominated for two Oscars -- for Art Direction and for Score. And Kirsten Dunst was nominated for a Golden Globe.

"Queen Of The Damned" combines the 2nd & 3rd books in the series. Lestat is completely different as all the other books are written in his words, not Louis'. In this movie Lestat is the biggest rock star on the planet and openly as a vampire which pisses off other vampires as he's giving away all their secrets and they plan on killing him at his concert in Death Valley.

A little fun fact, vampires are actually known for 90% of the time having queer themes. The theory is that all vampires are bisexual. This has been shown throughout Dracula, Carmilla, and many more works. The reason for this was to display queer people as demonic back then, that's why works such as Carmilla was written. But Anne Rice was inspired from (besides her family) Dracula's Daughter. This was a sequel from Dracula and showed queer themes. This was her inspiration for Interview with the Vampire. She and her son (before she passed) helped produce the show.

Slay, fam, you're still both fabulous!
Anne Rice had a young daughter named Michelle who passed away unexpectedly. Stricken with grief, Anne entered a short period of seclusion and wrote the first draft of Interview With The Vampire, in which Claudia represented her loss of Michelle. While as the first of the Vampire Chronicles series went, it was given mixed reception (due largely because of the homoerotic overtones), the rest of the series has a very dedicated cult following in fandom.
Lestat became the fan favorite from the books, not the first film. And the mythology Anne Rice developed was definitely a rather unique take on the whole Vampire Origin story.
If either of you enjoy more 'spicy' stories, Anne Rice is also famous for having written the "Sleeping Beauty" series under Anne Rocquelaire as a pen name, because they are BDSM erotica to the level that if you were to put 50 Shades of Grey on a shelf which also contained the Sleeping Beauty series, 50 Shades would spontaneously combust out of shame for how pathetically vanilla it was. 50 Shades isn't even worthy of being used as a bookmark for Sleeping Beauty. But don't say I didn't warn you. Mebbe just start with the first book and try the first few pages to see if it's really for you. LOL. Nothing gory, but.... oh my, Anne was a kinky girl.

One of my favourite movies of all time! The script, the acting, the music, the atmosphere... it's the most Gothic thing to ever Gothic. The heightened emotions are part of the genre. 😄And yes, it's gay. Anne Rices' vampires aren't sexual, but they're very sensual and form deep romantic bonds with their partners. Even after the murder attempts and everything else, Lestat and Louis are a couple in the novels.
Kirsten Dust 100% deserved an Oscar. Not only was it her first movie, but she outperformed a whole cast of A-list actors at 11 years old! It blows me away every time I see the movie.

I would've happily become a vampire and swept through cities, towns, boroughs, municipalities, metropolises, suburbs, communities, villages, quarters, districts, shanty towns, ghettos, slums, hoods, favelas, barrios, projects....gorging on the blood of the guilty and the innocent alike, to be with Lestat and Louie....and felt no types of bad about it. 💯👌🏾❤

River Phoenix was set to play Daniel- he was very excited about the role and was the vivid image of the character, but sadly, he passed away before production started, so he was recast.
Since you mentioned it, another interesting fact is that actors would be asked to turn upside down so that blood would rush to their heads- this made their veins pop and easily traceable with makeup.
Also, people often say that Tom Cruise (because of scient*l*gy) was the actor who wasn't comfortable with the gay "undertones." But from on-set accounts and interviews, he understood the nature of the relationship between Lestat and Louis and played the part accordingly.

Guys, I strongly recommend that you read the vampire chronicles, all of them.
the second part has many answers
Why was Lestat so obsessed with Loui?: because from the beginning it reminded him of his first love, when he was human, becoming a vampire also turned him, only he didn't resist it well, he went crazy and committed suicide.
And yes, I'm going to give you a spoiler about Claudia, she comes back as a spirit in another book... and it's not pretty, she's a very, very angry and vengeful spirit, to the point that she hates everything, including Loui.
Why does Lestat say that he will be given the option that was never given to him? Why is it so, Lestat was kidnapped and turned into a vampire against his will, and on top of that, that vampire thinks of committing suicide just minutes, hours?, of Lestat's conversion, and it doesn't explain anything at all
Please, the sequel, The Queen of the Damned, that movie didn't come, for the love of Rice, don't watch that...thing...better read the books
Among my favorites is the queen of the damned, and Blood and Gold or THE Sanctuary, as others know it..
Marius Romano is my favorite vampire, Mael is the one I hate the most in the entire saga... that unfortunate... among the vampires my favorite is Pandora, but Bianca... she, God, there is no heart that can resist Bianca, she is the character that is loved by everyone
Definitely, if I could have been a Rice character, I would be one of the observers OF THE ORDER OF TALAMASCA
Seriously, look for the book collection, it won't disappoint you.
