My heart sank when you added that big stump of wood - I thought, ' oh no, that'll never work' - but you proved me so wrong. What a brilliant tank, Well done! Plus that overhang at the back looks so good, and so natural for the fish to hang. If I had a big tank I would do that now. too. Super.

I think this is the most dramatic tank, absolutely love it. I'm going to try it on my next build.
I'm haven't even made it to the end of the video but this is already a brilliant build! ... I'm far too old to be a "fan boy" but, damn, you have created a masterpiece! You're moving up into a nature doco videographer as well - that bit at the end with the music and great shots of the fish enjoying the environment was mesmerising! The only thing missing was narration by Sir David Attenborough!

Love the build! Just one safety suggestion - try putting rocks inside of a sock or something similar before breaking them. Not only will you keep everything together, minimizing clean up, but you also significantly reduce the amount of shrapnel/dust in the air, making the process safer overall.

I really love the all red design theme. I just did something like this with a small 6 gallon tank. Also - I can't be the only person who thought the duck sound was hilarious....
🤣😂🤣 .. no worries.. just go steal a coaster from your favorite place and glue it over the hole. Or put it on a pivot and you can run a wire if you need to. Then you have a "secret reminder"

Michael Scott reminded me to hit the Like button, though I would of smashed it at the completed scape anyway. It is an absolute piece of art that! I have a two week oldish red colour themed tank with the plants only just starting to settle in nicely when I just couldnt find that je ne sais quoi that seems to be missing. It wasnt even the Chili rasbora I decided against getting to go with the red cherry neocaridina in this 40L tank; it was the soil. Definitely popping a red gravel cap in that scape tomorrow! Never thought I'd be popping any caps. Look what you made me do. And cheers for that.

Nitrate limitation boosts red colors. Both they don’t have enough. I always reduce nitrates on competition tanks and increase light to get more reds right before submission time.
when are we getting a salt water tank update??
I don’t think it’s turning out exactly as expected. As someone who’s been in the hobby for many, _many_ years I think most of these new “high tech” devices retailers are pushing aren’t necessary. Both myself and my brother have successfully kept marine tanks (fish, inverts & mixed) longterm with just the following; dolomite substrate (maintains PH,) floating glass hydrometer (specific gravity @ 1020), an under-gravel filter and an outside filter (either hang-on box or Eheim*), a decent light and cheap-o test kits. We never used UV sterilizers (sterilize fish with potassium permanganate and/or quarantine.) Bro eventually got a protein skimmer but monthly water changes are all that’s necessary. No metal must come in contact with water _EVER_ and Copper Sulphate kills inverts (& beneficial bacteria,) if you must use copper for copepods isolate the fish. Salt water is no more complicated than fresh water, retail outlets make it seem so to sell beginners $$/££ things.
_Eheim are a bit pricey but well worth it, they are amazing filters. Individual parts are available however I’ve had a couple from the 90s (bros has his from the 80s) and they still work well. If you spend a lot on one item it should be on the filter!_
PS; MD might want to try a more “low-tech” marine tank with just the basics (start tank with a grouper and/or domino damsels, the best fish for cycling.)

Knew I should have ordered the mesh bags, 😅 I disturbed the layers by accident with the chunky wood I put in, it was a disaster on my first build, eventually everything leveled out but I'm going to break it down and redo. The only diggers I have are crayfish, and they are satisfied with the wood pieces and the hollows in them. I'm planning on just making one half the plants and sorting out my tank and do a rebuild and learn from my mistakes 😂 this looks beautiful MD! 🎉 Yikes, I thought my wood ratio was chunky for my tank, but that's massive, ok, I feel better about my choices going with the wood more than the rocks in my hardscape lol.

I finally took the plunge and got a good light that you featured in the recent video series, and got 4 new plants for a well-established tank with Rainbow Fish and a couple green corydoras. I'm looking forward to seeing how the plants do with the new light! Thanks for the inspiration! Also, I'm so glad you mentioned not to bury the rhizomes! I had to dig mine up and attach them to things the right way. :)
I’ve been using the eheim 4+ for well over 8 years now and they are super solid filters. The plus just means it has an extra media basket compared to the regular 4 version
Min 21:40 ish The Red colour can be enhanced by low Nitrogen and/or Phosphat lvls, however it is a very fine line between low lvls and deficency. Intense Lighting is much more important for the colouration anyway as the red Pigment (Anthrocyanates) is a UV protector akin to our Melanin (and its much harded to get a nice Tan if you live in Norway compared to Italy)

Yeah, I like the aquasoil in bags for those diggers. ^^
I imagine you can do the same with compost soil by making landscape fabric bags & putting those inside the mesh bags, since the former are a bit fragile, so that it would contain most of the tiny bits.

Nothing but 100 Paracheirodon Innesi in this tank would be absolutely magical. Maybe once your Mbuna need a larger tank? Please do not tear this down without trying to make it a Neons only tank 😊. Plus, Innesi in large groups are very brave fish, you would be seeing a lot of them. They are not hiding as much as the Simulans type.
...aaand Blue Jelly Shrimp look otherworldly on red plants.
i love to see people using red substrate, i’ve done a build like this with mostly dark black slate stone type rocks in a 5g with a betta

It really does have some Elden Ring vibes. I imagine some areas could make for really good inspiration (although Caelid would certainly work better as a desert vivarium for some outlandish animal)
Traditionally, people saw stuff on a work table or even work bench, outside or in the work shop. It keeps living spaces cleaner and free from so much damage that way :).
