My dad got me into knife collecting and I'm 12 years old, and I have 5 benchmade knives. I have a full size griptillian and its got the black coated blade and a black handle, and a arcane with a serrated blade, and 3 green 940s, all of them are the older model with 154cm steel. One has the plain reverse tanto blade, one has a serrated reverse tanto, and one has a clip point. The serrated one is brand new and still has a sticker from when it was bought a while back. It says $135. I'm glad that my dad exposed me to knife collecting. I really enjoy it. I love to take apart my knives when they get dirty and clean them then reassemble them. Well that's all. Later!

And Benjamin downing - I had a mother that was the same and I cut myself badly the first time I tried to sneak it away from her and go on a camping trip with it when I was around 10. Your dad is smart to let you use it, but only with him. You can still use it and you will learn the best way to handle a sharp blade.
I've owned 4 of the 7 knives mentioned above; Griptilian (standard and G10), Mini (Standard and G10), Crooked River and 940. All are great knives. I gave my old man a Mini and he still carries it. He's a lefty and likes the Axis lock. I've moved on from it myself but at one point that's all I carried.
I always wanted a 940 but I don't like the fact that there is no thumb ramp for me to rest my thumbs on. How do you like the 940 compared to the griptillian?
The flat spot on the 940 feels good and was never an issue for me. It doesn't "lock" into place like a Spyderco but was comfortable none the less. The two are very different. The 940 is super slim and carries like it's not there. The Griptilian while not overly heavy is THICK in comparison to many folders but especially the 940. For some that's a big deal for others not so much. I think the Grip gets a bad name for being cheap due to the plastic scales and not having full liners but it's a tough and the G10 version eliminated the "cheap" feelings most have. The 940 also only has partial liners but due to the aluminum handles it's never been looked at the same way. Both are great knives it just depends on what you prefer and if thickness bothers you during carry.
If I were buying today I would most likely go 940. The knife really does disappear in your pocket. The G10 grip does offer a more premium steel than the 940-2 but the 940-1501 features 20cv.
bluemetalchurch hmm, I'm not sure why but I just assumed the 1501 was considerable more so didn't really look into it...after actually looking it up now I got another one to decide from hahaha. I got $300 I'm willing to blow but I'm trying to keep it under 200. With the 1501 being at just 200 I might go with that. (I'm new to the high end knife world I carry a rat 1 at the moment and wanted to spoil myself with something higher end for my 21st birthday haha)
I just got a full-sized s30v griptilian for my birthday. It is fantastic and so far, has replace my beloved native 5 in my pocket and I don't see it going anywhere for quite sometime. In an odd way, it "behaves" like a large native 5 in use. It just gives me the tingles.
Finally pulled the trigger on buying an “expensive” folder and got a mini grip for edc work (mostly cutting open boxes at work). It comes in a few days so I’m excited to see how it does!
I've got a580 Barrage I've been carrying and abusing for years. Super tough knife. Recently purchased a North fork folder and love it too. Smaller than my 580 and not assisted. Nice little knife.
Bought a 556-1701 Mini-grip the day it came out. Rather sad to see them not sell out and drop so much in price, but I've loved carrying it as a dress knife. A nice, light knife that looks beautiful, makes a statement, and is small enough to be relatively non-threatening. Wonderful piece
I just got my first Griptilian 551 and love it! It's been taking all the pocket time away from my Spydercos due to its balance between being extremely comfortable and light. Contrary to what I first thought, I've never found myself wishing I had the G10 version. Great knife!
I own the black coated 551-1. The first Benchmade knife I have ever owned. It arrived to me with a wiggling pocket clip but they did replace it for albeit taking about three weeks overall and having to pay the shipping to get it there myself. They did repair and tune it up the way I asked them to though so I am happy.
I've got a 15 year old full size griptilian with a reground blade tip from the sheep's foot to about a clip point. It has many other benchmade buddies 2 balisongs and several autos and even a 80s model gents folder marked benchmade bali-song g10 and titanium construction frame lock. I believe it to be fairly rare as it came from a older mans collection after he passed. I love your show, I have been collecting American knives all my 37 years. I own Brous, benchmade, zero tolerance, Merc worx, ray ennis knife (entrek), crkt Karen Hood, Emerson bladescqc7 and even a ww2 gi issue kabar with at least one German kill credited to the knife (purchased from the man it saved at the time he was 85plus years old. Oldest knife was made before 1890 by hand in solingen Germany. Thanks for helping people appreciate fine knives of all makes.
Love them all. I recently bought my son that same new full size Griptilian for my son and I gotta say I’m completely blown away by it. I initially avoided looking at the Griptilian after handling a nylon body D2 version. The G10 cpm20 model however feels like a completely different knife. Like if someone handled the G10 version first, then was handed the nylon body version, they would likely believe the nylon one was a fake knock off. It’s that much of a noticeable difference. I’d highly recommend that one to anybody looking for a slightly bigger edc knife. I also have the 940 carbon with s90. I would recommend the 940 as well. Not surprised it made the top of the list.

Blade HQ I have a new model Leatherman Wave, Ontario Rat 1 (not D2), and a Kershaw Thermite. I was thinking about getting a full size Benchmade Griptilian or a full size Benchmade Crooked River but I also thought about a PM2. What are y'all thoughts on those knives. Also my thermite has the deep carry pocket clip but the pocket clip on the Rat 1 is not deep carry in to be honest I prefer the Rat 1s pocket clip a lot more than the deep carry pocket clip. Also, the only reason I'm worried about getting a Benchmade is because they are tip up. I normally prefer tip down just of convenience and I'm carrying my Rat 1 tip up right now to try to get used to it. I love the grind on the Rat 1 as well. And I hardly ever carry my thermite because I'm not a huge fan of assisted knives I like manual knives.

I cant justify it either, its why I buy all knives like this in used but good condition. Ive scored great deals on ebay and even Craigslist if you can believe it.
I own the (full size) Griptilian, in orange, with the black plain blade. My go-to camping & fishing knife - visible at the campsite and if (when) I drop it out of the canoe. A stretchy landyard with sizing toggle makes it secure or retrievable. Left-handed, too. And your awesome test video beating on it in the bush sold me.
I own the 940-2 with g10 handles and I love it! I have had it when it first came out. I work 5 minutes away from the benchmade factory here in Oregon city so I got first glimpse lol. I am a diesel technician and I BEAT THE CRAP out of it by cutting thick hoses to stripping wires and sometimes prying on it.
I get it knives are meant to be used, but why not use a cheap coast from home depot or $20 crkt from wal-mart for shit like that, i couldn't bring myself to use a $200 benchmade like that. 😬

I love my edc mini grip. Had it over 2 years and only just had to sharpen it today for the first time. Considering the grip full size now, love that grey and blue.

Bought a mini griptillian when i lost my 940, then i found the 940 the day after i got the griptillian and havent carried it since. I like the knife, i just like the 940 more.
I have the mini griptillian, the 707 Sequel and the 710. My favorite, which I’ve carried for so many years I’ve lost track, is the mini Grip. Love it and will never get rid of it.
I've had a full size drop point/serrated combo griptillian for 10 years. I've sharpened it twice and still cuts through everything with ease. Just bought another full size griptillian, tanto/serrated. Both are bombproof.
Nice. Yeah, where's the Adamas on this list? For me the bigger and heavier, the more reliable. everyone who complains about a knife being too heavy is probably as skinny as these two. I also carry the Gerber 06 Manual in S30V with aluminum scales and heavy striker pommel. I'm also digging that Hogue EX01 4" with aluminum scales. But seriously, I laugh at the skinny who complain about knife weight. Lift some weights.

Full size grip, 553bk tanto...and knifeworks contego. Neither came drop shut smooth but they are now after some tlc. Asked Benchmade for a deep carry pocket clip for my griptilian and they sent me two. Really like the look of the new griptilian.
I have 2 benchmade mini grips and 1 grip carbon fiber gold class #55. One of my favorite knife designs and the axis lock is addicting to flip and unlock.

I love my 710 1401 Long elegantly curved blade of the finest modern alloy, reasonably rounded handle with very thick and sturdy liners, which of course makes the original Axis lock extremely strong Fantastic finish all around

If you're talking about them helping to destroy illegal firearms, you should know that those guns were evidence, therefore could not be sold or used so they were just wasted space. They also helped cut down on illegal weapons that could have been used for crimes. I own the full-size Griptillian. I work on a tugboat so I got it in 154CM for its anti-corrosion properties. I use it all day, every day and it's been the best EDC I've owned so far.
I was issued a Griptilian while in the US ARMY, but later I requested a Stryker AUTO, since I owned a standard Stryker. I still carry my Stryker as my primary Knife. But my oldest Benchmade Knife is an Emerson CQC-7....I own about 11 Benchmade, 4 AFCKs, and a few 350 Mel Pardue. Excellent Knifes.
I have carried a bench made griptilian for years on the job, I'm a journeyman lineman (I build power lines) I definitely use it up to and past the point of abuse and it Work's flawlessly! By far the best work knife I've used. I carry benchmade on the job and know I can trust it

I went to the store and asked for cheapest benchmade. Handed me a Griptillian with a straight edge. I use it everyday to cut gas and oxygen hoses, boxes, conveyor belts, etc. Holds an edge well and isn't too big to clutter my pocket. Glad I spent the money on this blade.
I am currently seriously looking at buying the crooked river for myself as a Christmas gift. I seen it last night on your website and I said I just have to have this knife. I love the look and I have been looking to invest in a benchmade product.
One more Griptilian owner here! I have a couple, but my EDC is my full sized sheeps foot with the thumbhole. It's been with me for about 8 years, and going strong. A lot of guys had them back when I worked at REI too, so they're very popular. I also have a 51, so I guess I like Benchmade.

I have the mini griptillian, the 707 Sequel and the 710. My favorite, which I’ve carried for so many years I’ve lost track, is the mini Grip. Love it and will never get rid of it.

I've had a full size drop point/serrated combo griptillian for 10 years. I've sharpened it twice and still cuts through everything with ease. Just bought another full size griptillian, tanto/serrated. Both are bombproof.
The benchmade Adamas is my go to edc I like a larger knife

Nice. Yeah, where's the Adamas on this list? For me the bigger and heavier, the more reliable. everyone who complains about a knife being too heavy is probably as skinny as these two. I also carry the Gerber 06 Manual in S30V with aluminum scales and heavy striker pommel. I'm also digging that Hogue EX01 4" with aluminum scales. But seriously, I laugh at the skinny who complain about knife weight. Lift some weights.

Always wanted a benchmade. A buddy at work had a mini grip. I had to fondle it. Fell in love just thought it was too fat. Got me a bugout. Super happy.
I own a full size Griptillian..about 1 1/2 years old . By far my favorite knife. Considered the mini
but decided it was too small. Mine is drop point with partial serrated edge.

Full size grip, 553bk tanto...and knifeworks contego. Neither came drop shut smooth but they are now after some tlc. Asked Benchmade for a deep carry pocket clip for my griptilian and they sent me two. Really like the look of the new griptilian.
Personally I cant stand deep carry. If I'm wearing gloves it's a pain to get out. Lol
I have 2 benchmade mini grips and 1 grip carbon fiber gold class #55. One of my favorite knife designs and the axis lock is addicting to flip and unlock.

Long elegantly curved blade of the finest modern alloy, reasonably rounded handle with very thick and sturdy liners, which of course makes the original Axis lock extremely strong

If you're talking about them helping to destroy illegal firearms, you should know that those guns were evidence, therefore could not be sold or used so they were just wasted space. They also helped cut down on illegal weapons that could have been used for crimes. Benchmade has always been pro 2nd amendment, and acting like them helping the police FOLLOW THE LAW, makes you just sound dumb

I own the full-size Griptillian. I work on a tugboat so I got it in 154CM for its anti-corrosion properties. I use it all day, every day and it's been the best EDC I've owned so far.

I was issued a Griptilian while in the US ARMY, but later I requested a Stryker AUTO, since I owned a standard Stryker. I still carry my Stryker as my primary Knife. But my oldest Benchmade Knife is an Emerson CQC-7....I own about 11 Benchmade, 4 AFCKs, and a few 350 Mel Pardue. Excellent Knifes.
I have carried a bench made griptilian for years on the job, I'm a journeyman lineman (I build power lines) I definitely use it up to and past the point of abuse and it Work's flawlessly! By far the best work knife I've used. I carry benchmade on the job and know I can trust it

Just bought a mini Grip with the G10 scales. The grey and blue is very cool looking. It's a great EDC knife.
Most days I carry the 9170. Lately been carrying the mini-barrage out of sheer laziness. It's just so much easier to carry!

i bought a second hand HK axis mini and it's actually my first benchmade made knife and i love it the axis lock is really nice probably my favorite
I went to the store and asked for cheapest benchmade. Handed me a Griptillian with a straight edge. I use it everyday to cut gas and oxygen hoses, boxes, conveyor belts, etc. Holds an edge well and isn't too big to clutter my pocket. Glad I spent the money on this blade.
I have a full size standard grip and just picked up the Mini in g10 and 20cv. Had to get it before it’s gone for good.
I own both the mini griptilian and the full size. I love them both.
I got the plain Jain full size griptilion with the 154cm blade and it was my first benchmade and it’s one of my favourite folders
I am currently seriously looking at buying the crooked river for myself as a Christmas gift. I seen it last night on your website and I said I just have to have this knife. I love the look and I have been looking to invest in a benchmade product.
One more Griptilian owner here! I have a couple, but my EDC is my full sized sheeps foot with the thumbhole. It's been with me for about 8 years, and going strong. A lot of guys had them back when I worked at REI too, so they're very popular. I also have a 51, so I guess I like Benchmade.
