We picked up another farm tractor from 1938! Allis Chalmers model b with hand crank only starting. We got a good deal on it for $300 and it runs really good!

That's a great way to break your wrist or arm if it kicks back the safe and right way to hand crank one of these is to stand off to the left side of tractor put your thumb on same side of crank as your fingers and pull quarter turn towards you that way if it kicks back crank will fly away from you and you will not get hurt this was taught to me from my dad my uncle did not listen to him and broke his arm after months of healing he then listen to my dad and never got hurt again hand cranking tractors think about it

on my 1939 i turn the fuel off and run the carb dry. if i choke it it wont start.i just turn the fuel on and it usually starts on the first pull . THAT IS A NICE ONE.

for a hand crank, you are supposed to only go 1/4 to 1/2 turn and wait, if you continue to go, it can kick back and break whatever is in its way, including your wrist, hand or face... love hand crank, but be careful

the early model B's have 17 engine hp and 12 at the drawbar, then later on they were improved to 22hp

Oh yea ! You might get hurt real bad cranking it like that. Believe the other posters on here. I had to shut off the video. I too have a 38. Switched out the transmission for a 50s model with a starter. 6 volt starter with a 12 v battery. No generator. Man it turns over fast. Just trickle charge the battery when not in use. That was 20 years ago. Same starter.

Watch a "how to crank video" before you break your fingers, wrist or worse. Love hand crank B's but they can hurt you.

What I think I see on your serial number is B3885. Tractordata.com says that's a 1938, with the Aillis Chalmers 116 ci engine.
