Fantastic video! And oh yes, the Almaring ... my stepfather was a hobby stock car driver (he drove in the "Auto Speedway" series) so we visited the Almaring in Gelsenkirchen really often. Between the races there were also some kart "races" were the kids (like me ;-) ) drove behind the pace car. Thank you for the reactivation of my childhood memories :-)
The Leyland test track was abandoned after they found that none of their vehicles could manage a full lap before breaking down. The site is probably littered with sundry parts that fell off in the process.
Thank you! I spend a lot of energy in the improvement of my videos and I think this is an entertaining video. However, the TH-cam algorithm doesn't see it that way :( So everybody please share this video in your social networks!
Would be cool if you could find some clips of racing on the old tracks then add them to the video, I like the addition of drone shots to your videos 😊 keep up the good work.
Thanks! Yes it would be cool to ad old footage to the videos. But the problem is, there is copyrigts on these old footage. Apart from the fact that I am serious when it comes to copyright, I don't want to risk my channel.
we also had cool abandoned race track here in finland, it was called Keimola Motor Stadium and it was closed in late 70's and now the city has been developing that area for residental use
I know, I wrote an article about it: www.circuitsofthepast.com/keimola-circuit/ Unfortunately I never visited it. But once I want to visit the residential area where it was. The old control tower is still there as a memorial. And I heard the roads follow the circuit layout and are named after drivers.
@@Circuitsofthepast yeah it looks like that the main straight is still there but some northern part of the track atleast in satellite image from 2019 probably unpaved tho
Have you visited Bremgarten near Berne in Switzerland. I went a few years ago and I found it hard to follow. You would do it better! Thanks for your work.
Herman, would you be up to exploring abandoned racetracks in North America someday?? Edit - Just watched you cover some tracks on the west coast and very much enjoyed it. :)
Thanks. Yes there are more abandoned tracks in North America on my list. I tried to contact the owners of North Wilkesboro Speedway, but they unfortunately didn't respond.
Fascinating. First time I’ve heard about the Südschleie. If it had been restored, it would have made, together with the already very long Nordschleife, Nürburgring into a seriously long racetrack. Sad that Brooklands was abandoned - looked like it could have been a cool track. Are there any racing sims, like Grand Tourismo, where one can “drive” any of these original tracks, particularly the full Monza, the original Hockenheimring, the original Austrian Ring, Brooklands and others?
Long ago I sim-raced on old race tracks with Grand Prix Legends. Today I'm not so into sim-racing anymore, so I actually don't know. But the're certanly will be sims where you can race the lost circuits.
I love the Reims greuox circuit sry for butchering the name because the remains r on a public road that anyone can drive next to. That would be so cool
Actually it was green with rust. We also had a blue donor car, so we changed all parts and painted the rest also blue. In the video from old Assen - which will premiere tomorrow - there is a photo of that Kadett on the track in 1990 :)
With the burgeoning popularity of electric racing series do you think that some of these circuits, which closed due to noise complaints, could be resurrected ?
About Terramar: images look very old. It does not look like that. Bankings do not go to 66 degrees. They go to 90 degrees!!!!!!!! There have been new works plus it looks way better. Yet it will never work again as there is a lot of buildings built after the track was closed and neighbours are against the Circuit
@@Circuitsofthepast No because it didn't remind me & was late to the party. I was trying not to forget the video, then set the reminder, then forgot. ;)
Yeah, if they lived there long before a circuit was built they have some right to complain. But if you move next to a race track you know there will be noise. If you don't like the sound of racing engines, you should not live near a race track.

Bremgarten is still on my to-do-list. Would be a good idea for a combination with re-visits to Monza and Morano sul Po.
Very nice vid.
A little advice, put a polarized filter in front of the camera to avoid the reflections 5:49

Make a video about Jacarepaguá, Brazilian raceway.
It's on my to-do-list. But Brazil is a long way from the Netherlands, especially with all the travel restrictions we have now.
Is the voice over guy chainbear? Sounds alot like him
No, it's Simon Smith from Higher Plain Games.
Hey, I want to ask you if you know these two racetracks. Thailheimring and Springfield That's all I know about them
Never heard of it. But I will do some research and maybe I will ever visit them.
@@Circuitsofthepast I decided to ask you because they were in a game I played before, called Total immersion racing
I think the Thailheimring is a fantasy track. There is a Springfield track in the USA.
both are not real
