You need to be commended for sitting in that tiny van round trip. That's a big NO GO for me as my legs barely fit in those. Seems at least one night in a hotel to break it up would make it more tolerable 😂.

You need to wear sunscreen everyday 3-5 days prior to activity day. If you just wear sunscreen one time on the activity day, it is so much less effective.
