  • My Bose QuietComfort 35 wireless headphones were out of warranty (1 year) and my power switch broke such that I could no longer turn them off. This is what I did to fix it.
    I did also call Bose to see if they fix these, but they do not. They offered me $50 off a new pair.
    If you are looking for a replacement part you can try this site:

    If you use the code Alex-2021 you can get %15 off!

    I had similar symptoms in that my headphones wouldn't power off, but upon opening, I saw that my switch wasn't broken like yours. Turns out that for some reason the outer cover started obstructing the power switch from sliding all the way off. I filed the opening a little wider and now it works fine. Your video helped me diagnose and (have the courage!) to fix myself. Thank you!

      Any idea where I could purchase a replacement spring? Mine flew out during the repair and is permanently lost...

    • @AlexIannicelli
      @AlexIannicelli  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what spring you are talking about. Unfortunately I don't think Bose sells parts so you'll need to find a suitable replacement. Maybe the spring from a pen? Good luck.

    I recommend not remoing the fabric attcheded to the headphone with adhesive. The screws can be removed by folding the fabric without removing the adhesive.

    Alex...YOU JUST SAVED ME $250! Thank you!...My switch stopped working as well and I did a quick TH-cam search and your video made it seem so easy to fix. But first I called up Bose to see if there was a recall on this extremely common breakage. The gal said no recall, no replacement part, no repair option, but Bose would let me trade in for a new pair for only $250!!!! No thank you, I followed your repair advice and they are as good as new in about 20 minutes. I only used loctite/crazy glue gel and did not do the metal wire reinforcement but it should hold! total repair cost 7 cents for the glue! Thanks again.

    Thanks for this helpful video! I also took some tips from the comments when fixing mine:
    1) I didn't remove the fabric before removing the screws, I just folded it down to reveal the screws underneath. After removing the three screws, the cover piece didn't just fall off for me. I had to take the screwdriver and push into the holes where the screws had been in order to get the cover to release.
    2) I discovered that one of the four sides of the grey plastic switch cover was completely broken off. I had to carefully shake the open headphones upside down to find the broken piece.
    3) I precisely applied gel superglue with a toothpick and placed the broken piece back into place using fine-nosed tweezers. After the glue dried, I tested to make sure the grey switch cover fit over the black switch.
    4) Instead of a metal wire, I used cotton thread. I looped the thread securely around the outside of the switch, then I used a toothpick to coat the thread in more superglue. I waited a few minutes for the glue to set and then checked again to make sure the grey switch cover+thread fit over the black switch.
    When I closed everything up again, I found that the power switch takes more force to move than it did before. I'm not sure why, but hey, at least I can turn them off! Thanks again for your help, and for saving me a couple hundred bucks!

    In situations like this, where a broken component needs to be reinforced somehow in order to work again effectively. Rather than using wire, tightly wrap the broken part with cotton sewing thread and then soak the cotton binding with superglue. The cotton wrapping will then bond together and eventually harden to create an effective repair.

    • @AlexIannicelli
      @AlexIannicelli  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome idea! I love it.

    • @patriciaburke6639
      @patriciaburke6639 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alex Iannicelli Thanks Alex, I love that you love it too!
      Depending on what you are trying to repair and the size of what your are trying to hold together, or just strengthen. You could use cotton thread, twine, string etc. I omitted to say that I usually put drops of superglue on the thread as I am in the process of binding it on the piece, so it starts the hardening process of bonding the threads together and at the same time keeping the cotton tight as I am winding it on. And once I have wound on as much as I think necessary, ( more is better than less ) I give the thread a final soaking to give it its maximum strength once fully hardened. Feel free to try it anytime! Strangely enough, I came across your post while looking up TH-cam videos on these Bose headphones, not so sure about them now. At their price range the component parts should be more robust, especially, as they don’t even supply such basic replacements when they break.

    • @AlexIannicelli
      @AlexIannicelli  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are great headphones. I use them at least 4 hours a day. I've had to replace the ear cups and perform that one fix,but otherwise they have done well. The battery doesn't last as long as it used to,but that is expected.

    Just happened to mine but will be harder to fix. The switch broke off in two places and one of the pieces is lost. It's a shame that the company that sells a $400 pair of headphones cannot design a sturdier $1 switch that's just destined to break.

    Thanks so much for this. My 3 yo QC35 powerswitch failed on me today, after removing the cushion and mesh (I had replaced these with a new pair I bought from Bose a few months ago) I was stumped, searched, found your video and proceeded to fix it following your instructions. I used a very thin flower wire I happened to have to make model trees. I hope it stays functioning now, I use these every day! Really strange that Bose won’t fix this problem but will only replace, just a simple plastic part, while they do offer replacement cushions.

    We're just sitting here attempting this, unfortunately one of the screws is glued shut entirely and the other one won't budge, we assume it has also been glued in. Guess Bose realised they left a loop hole for people with tech know how and the determination to not buy new ones :(
    But thanks so much for this helpful video!

    awesome video! my switch is slowly starting to break and I tell it'll need fixing in the near future. This is a great little video showing just how easy it is to fix this issue. Thank you!! I was so happy with my headphones until I had that same issue. I watched your video and did what you said. I took off the cover and pushed the switched to off and even though I could not find anything broken, it shut right off for a change. I put it back on replaced the cover following all the step in your video and so far so good. Maybe the cover is just on to tight. I did find one of the three screws very hard to unscrew. Maybe that had something to do with it. All I can say is THANK YOU! I did not want to change to a different pair even if they were replaced free from Bose.

    Thanks to your Instructions I also got benefit. My problem was related but different , I couldn't erase the Bluetooth list of previously paired devices, I was stuck in a limbo trying to connect my last old iPhone that I sold and wasn't impossible to erase with the 10 seconds method or the app because it never went into pairing mode so I can add my new phone. So I decided to adventure and open my BOSE QC35 ii following your instructions and the switch wasn't broken but instead the switch never could goes all the way in order to delete old devices or get into pairing mode. Maybe a design flaw of the cover or a bad switch but with the side open I could move the switch all the way and could fix my issue. Thanks.

    Great video. My switch had not broken but my headphones kept turning on unexpectedly, which would mess up my phone and computer since the sound would transfer by itself to them. For whatever reason, the switch wouldn't go far enough to shut them off so I took an xacto knife and trimmed a little of the aluminum case back so the switch could move more securely into the off position and all is good now.

      If you can remove the cover, you can use the following method without having to repair or replace the broken switch.
      1.Remove the cover
      2. Use a needle or similar object to turn on the switch (it must remain on in the future).
      3. Install the BOSE connect app on your device and select in the settings.
      4. If the power is off, turn it on using the volume button or play button.
      5.Remove the broken switch and cover the hole with electrical tape from above the cover.
      I was also having the same problem as you. However, I am comfortable using this method now.

    Seems different from my QC35. The power switch cover looks different, and the switch on the circuit board didn't work at all (the headphones still turn on when in the off position).

    Mine had snapped off at the switch so no good there. Had to pair it to my PC, so while I had it open I just used a screwdriver to push the switch to pairing mode, then put back together. Have to buy a new switch on ebay. Good video though showing how to open it up. Much more simple than I thought it would be.

      If you are still looking for a new switch see the link I posted in the description.

    Thank you. I had a different problem. The whole pin attached to the switch itself broke. Gluing it back on is impossible. I removed the switch and left a whole in which I stick a sharp object to turn in on and off.
