The fact that no water came out of the Schrader valve means that all the water was behind the rubber diaphragm which pressing against the bottom of the tank. The drill went through the diaphragm. I think the problem here was that the Schrader valve core was bad, allowing all the air to leak out of the tank. Probably could have just replaced the valve core instead of the whole tank.
Others may have a different opinion, but it seems better to have the water inlet at the bottom & Schrader valve at the top. Thus having the water assisted by gravity to drain back out. And so that, the rubber bladder needs less effort to push against any water present in the holding tank, since it 's not impeded by the weight of the water above it (if the tank was installed in the upside-down orientation: with water intake at top).
When you install one that way, you can never fully relieve the pressure. there's always some water above the diaphragm putting pressure on it. It may be a small amount of pressure, 4 -10 pounds or so, but there is some pressure.
Why when i set the water temperature to 180 degrees my Hydronic boiler goes past 30 psi for a two family house.Should I change the expansion tank from Ex30 to a Ex60 expansion tank.
Im going to replace my amtrol ex-30 expansion tank. Has a pinhole in the side of it, and seeps out. I understand about precharging it. My house water pressure is about 50 psi. The new tank is precharged at 13 psi. My tank not set up like most i see. Not on the cold water supply line to water heater. I have an oil fired furnace that also supplies the water heater. The expansion tank appears to have hot water going through it. I decided to check the pressure of the old tank while still part of the system. Its at 16 psi. Should I charge the new tank to 50 psi or 16? Thanks
Hey Mike I changed my expansion tank when my relief valve started leaking got it at the hardware store for about 30 bucks saved myself about $300 using a plumber! When is the motor home gonna start rolling again? Hello from Central New Hampshire!!!!
Attach next to the heater with metal galvanized pipe but with air fill valve facing up . This way, if the water fills up the tank when it goes bad then you dont have a 70 lb tank hanging from those pipes as in this video
@@sajidrafique375 Thanks Sajid….I had one installed and the plumber hung it by a copper pipe. I was concerned about the weight if it ever failed so I made a metal bracket to support it and anchored the bracket to a concrete wall. So if it fails then all the weight will be transferred to the bracket and there will be no stress on any pipes. Thanks again.
This tank can be very heavy and dangerous if it gets filled with water...Those copper pipes will bend and the thing will collapse...It MUST be supported with clamps or something under it
Thanks for showing so much priceless know-how!

Charge it to the pressure you run at the faucet. If you run 50 psi, charge it to 50-55psi. I run mine 5 psi higher than my main psi at the tap.

Hi John, its sitting there, my dad is old so I just cant leave for any long time, thanks mike
Hello Mike….does it matter how close or far the expansion tank is installed from the hot water tank? Thanks!
Hi Larry ,I am not sure what code says, Mike

Do you need to pressurize the tank to the same pressure as the water coming out of a sink?
Hi Pelos,, I think is says on tank,
Did you not watch the video what he said?
