We didn’t have that growing up and we got gem after gem of live shows on video 2 or so years ago. We never had that Just like this, it’s so beautiful. We are so blessed seeing this and all the latest concerts and footage that have been released.

      Greatness always reaches out and touches souls across barriers of time, space, age, what have you.
      Reminded me of the time I first played Hendrix for my lil girl, all of 3 years old. She listened, wide-eyed, and as the last notes of Voodoo Child died away, she asked "what was that, papa?" I said, that was Jimi Hendrix, he's playing the guitar. (yes, she knew what a guitar was, because she'd seen mine....such as it is!)
      She was quite for a moment, and then asks, "can i have a guitar like Jimi Hendrix's, papa?"
      And i said of course you can, darling, and thought: just as soon as you are as big as the guitar!

    This is why Clapton will always be wrong about Page. Page could play sweet harmony and melodic tones, but he could also give you the raw thrash that your heart desires. Clapton never could get that raw intensity that Page could. IMO Page is way better than Clapton. RIP Claptons Hands

    How about that? Jimmy Page was note perfect, Robert was his charming self, Bonzo the magician--and I have to repeat my favorite anecdote from Robert Plant the first time he met Bonzo. I think it went something like this, Page had just done a performance with Plant and Jones and someone playing drums and after the gig, Bonzo came up to Plant and said, "What you need is the greatest drummer in the world." And Robert Plant answered, "And I suppose that's you?" And of course it was. To reiterate, one of the most innovative, talented and creative rock bands in the world hung up their guns when the irreplacable Bonzo died. Apparently, his playing was what make the band come together. He had such fantastic rolls and taps and hits and clings, that without him the band simply was without its musical motor. His fills are legendary; what he was was Jimmy Page on drums. He was Jimmy's twin. We thank these lads for giving us the dream that will never die of life in the time of Led Zepelin. You have saved a generation of people from growing old in their minds.

What they say about the sixties is that if you remember what happened, you weren't there. I'll try to find the broadcast. It was his words and Bonham can't say. I was repeating his anecdote. But hey, ask him? I think he will answer you.

    This is a great guitar piece. I like how John Bonham accents Jimmy Page here. He nailed Jim McCarty's drumming on the Yardbird's version of White Summer perfectly here. Jim McCarty is a great drummer, but John Bonham was on a whole different level.

  • @LaserGuidedWhitehaus
    @LaserGuidedWhitehaus ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I missed The Yardbirds almost entirely; I was too young and, moreover, completely removed by a gulf of distance from world culture, having been born into a remote and isolated industrial backwater plunked into a dark, cold and endless Canadian forest. But thanks to a friend's older brother, I was there for the inception of Led Zeppelin, on vinyl at least; and from that moment on, THAT music (the first SIX albums) was probably the most important thing in my life, from 1969 through 1975, at which point I rejected the past and my life and my origins, and I moved away from home and never returned. And I sold those records, maybe for other records, maybe for food. But it's only now that I begin to truly understand the importance and lofty achievement of Jimmy Page, completely aside from rock and from fame, and his place in the world alongside Davey Graham, and the traditions of English folk music, and Gnawa, and south Indian classical music, and the exodus of musical cultures from north and east Africa, by way of the rural south in the United States, and a host of other influences, and how he, in his own original ways, carried these holy grails forward. I'm learning how to play some of these things on the acoustic steel-string guitar now, and it raises my spirit to find myself come full circle. The end is the beginning.
