Toyota: we need to collaborate with BMW to make the supra, otherwise it'll be too expensive.
Also Toyota: this GR Yaris doesn't even share the same platform with the regular Yaris, it its own chassis
Well, the project was originally to make a homologation car for WRC, so it's not meant to be a volume seller, or even to make money on road cars.
Well it's a 20 series Tgna-B Plattform up to the A-Pillar, then they used a modified TGNA-C platform from there to the back.. Clever, not wasting money in any way
It's sad how they put more effort on their hatchback than their flagship sportscar, the new Supra is a fast car but 15 years from now it'll be driven by some broke kids just like 350Z, the GR Yaris on the other hand will ended up being a sought after car
It's very doubtful that Toyota actually make any money from the physical sale of a GR Yaris. As a tool to resurrect the brand in WRC/Motorsport however it's probably worth every Yen Toyota spent on it :)

205 GTi, yes (not the normal 205), but no, since that was a normal car for a normal price. This GR Yaris got released in the least amount needed to function as a homologation car for their WRC project. Same with the GR Super Sport which is the homologation car for their WEC car.

This is one SPECIAL car, nothing like it on the road right now. As a Toyota guy for 20 odd years now, always been bought because of reliability, this GR is something else. Proves Toyota can rule if they want to hitting right market. Top top car. Looking forward to driving one, one day.

He's better. A proper driver and a petrolhead with a solid journalist skillset. I was watching CHOC instead of TG long before Jezza got sacked for his childish tantrum because it was a better car show. The trio's Top Gear was not a car show anymore back then. It was a clown show.

100% anyone with a bit of money in the bank should buy two. One to inevitably crash and the other to keep wrapped up and make some money in the future. This feature is on Top Gear on Sunday (April 4th), there will not be any left to buy after that

@@keloduma they always have potential in long term.Before lfa let's go back in 1960s when toyota 2000gt the first japanese supercar.That car was first collaboration between yamaha and toyota that become legendary until modern day now,the design was many people said japanese e type even there is different than e type like 2000gt is pop up while e type is not.Like 2000gt toyota want to attempt in supercar market but many people said it's too expensive for the car or the brand of toyota is still know make cheap car not for expensive car back then.So toyota just have loss on that car and they stop producing about less than 400 units.and then carroll shelby requested toyota to giving him 2000gt and he knows that this carp potentially racing in scca.Well now after 50 years many people praise and said 2000gt was iconic and beautiful japanese cars of all time.Similar with lfa the successor of 2000gt in 21st century also when that car new,many people not buying it and just giving big loss for toyota company. so that why until now you still can find a some LFA still brand new in lexus dealership across the world.But I'm live in indonesia we never got lfa because too expensive.as you can see that when the lfa is new,many people not want buying it but in 2 or 3 years when it's discontinued many people realized the potentially for this car and praise the engineering for the car that make by toyota and yamaha.So that why I'm said like lfa or 2000gt most of toyota flagship supercars was quite "failed"in short term but it become potential success product in long term.Well there is hope in future toyota now still develop hypercars based on Le mans called gr super sport and they said making about 20 examples little bit more.Well I hope that car potentially praise by car enthusiast in short term and long term and forever.

i dont think i could never watch another yaris gr video, its just that good. again and again.
I think this is the new real spiritual successor to the Subaru WRX.
GR Yaris has brought back the old driving experience that gives the driver full control not the computers.
maybe some other manufactures will consider such a type of car as well, due to the more than ultra positive feedback on this car. By other manufacturers, I really do mean other manufacturers and not VW, which are still in their pursuit of DSG only-ness and fake AWD-ness. #haldexisNOTawd.

This is probably one of the last analogue type race bred cars we'll ever see now electric is taking over
It's a more iconic car than some may realise
There will be ICE toys like this for a good ten years yet but yes, they are on the way out. On the other hand, an EV with a motor on each wheel can be set up to outperform this. It just won't have the noise that all the little boys like.
I wouldn't say the time of combustion engines is over. In fact combined with an electric motor, I.e. Hybrid, it is the most environmental friendly option today, even more than an EV, which has a ten times larger battery than the Hybrid. So, let car makers produce good Hybrids and the combustion engine will live on quite a while into the future!
@@davidmccarthy6061 This car is awesome with the diffs but as you say with 4 motors that's a moot point. You can make a car that will drive any 1 wheel with 100% power instantly and easily.
I hope all this talk of synthetic fuel bears some fruit so we can enjoy ICE for years to come.
@@davidmccarthy6061 mann is it? rally car with a battery is not a rally car. the agility of the rally car is the lesssss weight. 4 motors on 4 wheels and battery is for roads and may be circuits.

You have one? I'm thinking I could probably have about as much fun on the road in a 3 year old Fiesta ST at half the price... but this GR is just on another level and I'm still swinging between them on what to get..
The GR is obviously the better of the two by far but I'd have to remortgage my house to get it.. and this video isn't helping. Lol.
@@paulhope3401 Dont do it, owning this car and it delivers what it says: immense levels of grip! So forget hooniganisms on normal dry roads, only wet/snow drift events for such kind of action (coming from RWD and never though I'd say too much grip would not be welcome)

Very interesting that you say that, I actually went from a 106 GTI to an Impreza and the exact same applied there. the less stable, lift off oversteer GTI was actually far more fun day to day with its performance being more accessible on the road.
To have real fun on the road in this you would have to push it waaay beyond what you normally have to do.. and say goodbye to your licence or be a danger to other road users. Great car but Imo its more of a track/stage toy.
Got a 310PS Scarlet Flare Red with HKS exhaust. Love it and goes like a rocket ship! Swapped a 400bhp Focus RS for it and no regrets.
I’ve had mine 18 months done 23000 miles, on the fast A and B roads it’s absolutely bonkers, the grip is staggering. Chris is bang on

I ordered one in pearl whiten extra 800ish with rally pack and something to do with a recording camera and special paint wax or something price was £35500
which you can finance over 2 yrs no interest or you could get a 3 yr finance deal where you pay the lump some or give it back
