If you ignore history and the fact that almost every CSA citizen went his or her entire life without owning a slave, and that most signed into the army because of the rising pay ($3 a year was amazing) and also cause the Union waged a war of scorched earth on southern farmlands (so they had to protect their homes) you could maybe start to try to pretend they fought to protect slaves. But you'll need to make a lot of alternate history to really make that happen. Don't dehumanize your enemy like an idiot. Any enemy soldier and any enemy politician is just the same as you. If you ignore that part where they were fighting to keep slavery alive, this beat goes hard.
If you ignore history and the fact that almost every CSA citizen went his or her entire life without owning a slave, and that most signed into the army because of the rising pay ($3 a year was amazing) and also cause the Union waged a war of scorched earth on southern farmlands (so they had to protect their homes) you could maybe start to try to pretend they fought to protect slaves. But you'll need to make a lot of alternate history to really make that happen. Don't dehumanize your enemy like an idiot. Any enemy soldier and any enemy politician is just the same as you. Except maybe nicer and better educated.

CSA citizens didnt own slaves because they couldnt afford them. they were still fighting to make sure slavery continued. I dont see them as my enemy but that doesnt mean they werent fighting for a stupid cause. i wasnt alive at the time so i see it as pure history. it isnt a lie to say the confederate army was fighting to remain seceded from the north and maintain slavery. their decision to secede is one thing, and I'm not entirely against it. I am against their decision to treat black people like cattle and their will to fight for that.

Not only that, you have to ignore history to not recognize that the vast majority of Southern politicians were either pro-slavery or owned slaves in the first place. One more thing, you are likewise dehumanizing the enemy by basing your entire argument on the "War of Northern Aggression" and you are acting hypocritical with your dehumanization argument in light of your first argument.
