I've always wondered what the world would have been like if the southern gentlemen had won the civil war I don't believe all the propaganda that the north spun about the motives of the south...esp. as the north was dominated by the tribe that have spun propaganda for centuries
I'm an auld fart from across the water in Scotland, I have a giant Confederate flag above my bed with a crucifix hanging in the middle, my Mrs asked what it was about. I said "If you want this flag, you have to go through GOD"
The rebel flag❌️ was designed through the Scotland 🏴 flag. Many of the father's of the Confederacy had bloodlines going back to Scotland. God bless the St. Andrew's flag ❌️🏴❌️🏴❌️🏴
Excellent! When I was a young paratrooper, I looked at my dear brothers from TX MS NY WI NC GA OH IN VA SC MA CT and it was hard to imagine to this day such good loyal men killing each other, in their hundreds of thousands
The General is the reason Dixie fell. He was an egomaniac and refused to listen to anyone other than General Jackson. Once Stonewall died he did as he pleased. Several of General Lee’s subordinates advised him to avoid Gettysburg and continue to head directly to Harrisburg as was the original plan and he refused to listen.
@@namelessbandchannel253 It did. Although the restored English monarchy was very good at wiping out any survival of radicalism or republicanism. England didn’t start discussing universal suffrage and individual liberty again for 150 years. In the States, I’m not sure the Civil War was ever really reconciled.
The Southern states believed in America as it was founded and were loyal to the constitution and the spirit of the Declaration of Independence. The radical Republicans under Lincoln destroyed the voluntary union that most Americans believed in. They forced the corrupt British mercantile system on all of America. It has grown into the leviathan we suffer under today.
what courage! confronting the north which had more men and industry despite this the south won as many battles. the people of the South were truly exceptional men. I am French and passionate about this period of history
The South was very impressive in battle considering the north had much bigger industry and population. A current look at the USA would disappoint the northern men who died in the civil war. We’re not back.
Does anyone know if the scene in Gods and Generals where 2 Irish regiments fought each other is true or not. The north had an Irish brigade, but did the South have one as well. Or was it all just made up for the film.
Many of the Irish of the south were decedents of Irish who’d come around the revolution. When the colonial army was faltering and running out of money, the colonies promised land as payment to the soldiers of the revolution. After the war those with English ancestry received the premium land with the best farming throughout the piedmont of the south. Those of Irish ancestry were told to find land in the Indian territory of Appalachia. The northern Irish units were mostly “just off the boat” Irish. They were told upon arrival they had to fight in the war and immediately conscripted or face deportation. This was bc the war was extremely unpopular among the citizens of the north and the Army couldn’t get volunteers. Had the government of the US actually worked for the will of the people, tariffs on southern goods wouldn’t have impoverished the south for 20 years, states would have had equal representation, the federal government wouldn’t have run out of control, the south would have never succeeded and the civil war would have never happened.
I served in the U.S. Army 1971-1973 with fellows from all over the USA, I have lived in both the North and the South. We didn't know what the war in Vietnam was all about, we went in the military because we felt it was our duty. I strongly suspect that the young men from both the North and South went in their army because they felt it was their duty. I doubt that some Northern fellow was going to go risk getting killed to free some Blacks and I doubt that some Southern fellow was going to go risk getting killed so some plantation owner could keep his slaves. I am an old man now and I feel that this is true.
The "South fellows" were defending their homes and families from the horde of yankee robbers - that is all. And in 1971-1973 one of my comrades or me have missed...
A Confederate POW was asked by a Union interrogator "You are poor and have no slaves, why are you fighting us?" The southerner replied "Because you are here". Wanting to defend your homeland against invaders, and defend your borders, are natural human instincts, unless of course you are a gay little Marxist liberal.
"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization." -A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.
