  • This Yamaha part number (3LP-W1551-00-00) IDLER, GEAR SET appears to fit ONLY the XV 1100 Virago's from 1986 to 1999 not the smaller XV700
    Check with your parts dealer or click the link below and enter your bike year, model, and in the "Select Diagram" box click on "STARTER CLUTCH" If the parts diagram only shows the same old original parts with the spring in between them then this new part without the spring was not made to fit your bike.
    www.yamahamotorsports.com/part...
    www.shopyamaha.com/parts-cata...
    Both gears come as an assembly under one part number.
    New part assembly does NOT use a spring.

    HI I am having problems with my virago 1100 1994. when I press the start I hear it spinning the solenoid comes out and get stocked out. then if I rotate the engine manually it find its place and go back in. but after I press the start the same happens.... I open the cover and I press start and I can see the starter clutch spinning so that is working.... can someone tell me what might be the problem? (is in neutral, battery is good, and kill switch from the stand works) please help

    Yes, But if some one else removed the engine you won't know the reverse order of reinstalling it. But you can still do it. Replacing the valves you will need a valve spring compressor other then that it's not a hard job.

I have an 04 v-star 1100 and I've been thinking that the noise I hear is from the starter clutch. Question: why is it that a tiny piece of gear gets chewed off,it's gotta buy a new one,and there's still a lot of teeth on it? Nobody tries to figure out a permanent salutation fro the problem. I studied it good and long,and found out #1 the spring is not letting the gear move in all the way. #2 the gear has to fight to get into the flywheel. I cut a little off the spring and it starts better and if the gear was about a 1000th smaller i bet it would work even better. Think hard about it,lets eliminate this problem,and stop buying brand new gears,because a little bit chewed off stops it from starting.

    i solved that shit years ago for free . i put a homemade plunger thru the side of the ' rocker ' assembly cover and i give the little plunger a sideways kick with my left foot when i crank the engine . the plunger is just a brass fitting with a 1/4 inch bolt running thru it . makes the gear engage and keeps it engaged .

      Yes man there is. What year is it? the early starters have a short shaft, later ones are longer. Depends if the noise is coming from the starter motor or the gears. My guess is your #2 idler gear has sheared some teeth and has trouble engaging the flywheel. take your left hand engine case cover off and have a look at the teeth. To verify if this will work on your motorcycle, go to a Yamaha motorcycle web site and call the posted number on the web site

      Enter your bike info on that site and make sure it fits your specific Virago. I have not checked recently but when I first posted this it only fit a fraction of all the viragos out there.

      Hi, Please check with your parts dealer for verification for your model, I cannot confirm all of the models this new part is for.

      @@cowboy49107 are you sure. I also have a 93 xv1100, if you click on the starter clutch it shows a spring. The 94 does not show a spring and has that 3lpw1551 part number. I assumed that meant the new part works on the 94, and not the93

    • @brianguenther1510
      @brianguenther1510 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does show the lp35w1551 for the 93, you are right. It shows the spring but when you click on the above part number it goes to the superceded number.
