I have been a rush loyal rush fan since I first heard villa la stragiato. My favorite song then and still my favorite rock n roll song to this day. Neil peart was obviously man way ahead of his time. His writings , lyrics and his out of bounds drumming are a test to that. He wrote about subjects 30 years ago that are just now coming out of the wood work. One of the best bands to experience live. I feel a void or hollow spot in my heart since his passing that will never be filled. He has touched many others in the same way. God bless his soul he will never be forgotten

It dampered my evening. I am not a musician but, I was floored by his talent. The man never took a play off. He one big reason why RUSH is my all-time favorite band. I saw a video masterclass of his where he talked about feeling like he wanted to step out of his comfort zone, to improve as an artist. Kill me.
He found a jazz drummer who basically said, "You're doing it wrong.". Neil listened to this guy's ideas, and like 2 weeks before RUSH was going into the studio to record an album, he changed the way he played substantially. In the studio, Geddy and Alex were stunned by Neil's more fluid timing (more like orchestration than a metronome), and it led to a more creative recording process.
I'm leaving out tons of detail, but the idea that the greatest artists are constantly searching for that next hill to climb was not lost on me. Never lose your curiosity. Never get complacent. No matter how good you are, you can always be better. Do it... :)

Second song I learned from Rush after Tom Sawyer! Easily my biggest influence for drumming and in my opinion the greatest and most influential drummer of our time. The man paved the path for millions of young aspiring drummers such as myself and it is a HUGE loss in the world of rock, drumming and just music in general. I feel like this type of music will soon be lost unless we can find more such great people to keep it alive, but I really hope we can bring back the age of such great music.

I'm autistic and have no musical ability whatsoever, but if I had any talent, I would have been a drummer. Neil is the consummate drummer. The man actually WAS a genius, in a field where that term gets over-used, but in his case, he was very interested in science, technology and science fiction and had a very substantial grasp of all of it. His lyrics never cease to delight and amaze. All good wishes to the band, Neils' family, friends, and fans.

It's all a matter of style. If the guys from Rush think that the best version of a thing is the one they put on record, then they're entitled to go for it that way if they want. A lot of bands evolve their music through live performance over time, the songs get better and sometimes morph to fit the artists' sensibilities as they get older. I don't find anything wrong with that, either. To me, the only thing that matters is that I'm getting 100% effort.

Who would put a "thumbs down" to this video? One could only imagine those of you with your thumbs down are reaching for an unusual choice of their own anatomy... that, or perhaps it is out of personal frustration for their own lack of ability and patience to practice properly or adequately, thus just resulting in another of many personal failures. Here's an obvious "secret" regarding real musicians versus those who become frustrated after failing to learn a song that goes beyond the scope of the classic beginners "Rock 1" 4/4 time signature... One must put in as much time as it takes if your going to rise above the goal of mediocrity to master. Those of you who are truly dedicated... Never Give Up !!!
My apologies if this came out as harsh. Musicians including Neil Peart (many consider to be in the class of "World's Best") have an understanding that learning and practice are all part of the journey to continually improving one's skills. Seriously, here is a man, already held in the highest regards by so very many amateurs and professionals alike, who took the time after decades of success to look at his style and say "I can do even better" (I reference those of you not familiar with this topic to checkout his experience learning and improving with Jazz legend and Instructor of many Great Percussionists, Freddie Gruber) + (Of what might also be of interest is Neil Peart and his contribution to the 2008 Buddy Rich "Known as The World's Greatest Drummer" Memorial and Tribute Concert in NYC)

I just thought of something in examining the Professor’s last name: the first that caught my eye 👁 was ART- artist, artistic expression in both music and lyrical content. Second: PE as in physical education as in the Stamina it takes to play drums and in particular at a EXCEEDINGLY HIGH LEVEL!!! So we can deduce through his last name that we have an ARTIST in every sense of the word and Physical Education in terms of stamina and physicality to play at level that boggles the mind and soothes the Heart! Rest In Peace Professor there will never be another like you!
    Sincerely,
    Gary

I wonder if Neil has ever considered doing some sort of sci-fi radio show. I think his voice is perfect for radio or news or really anything. Could you imagine Neil as the voice-over artist for movie trailers? "In a world..."

He mentioned something I always loved about Rush. Every concert was always as good as the album. There were few variances and if there were, they were great and added to the track.
    Those cymbals sound sooo sweet.

I just saw RUSH play their last show in Kansas City, MO on 8/4. My seat was on the 7th row right in front of Neil and I'd say my attention was on him about 60% of the time watching him play drums and the other 40% respectfully divided between Geddy and Alex. It was an awesome show!
