@Joe Kinchicken What are you talking about? Limelight is about fame, Subdivisions is about High school Subdivisions (duh). Virtuality is about the internet. Every song on Clockwork Angels is part of a concept album. Closer to the Heart I can only assume is about doing what you love. Tom Sawyer speaks for itself. Nobody's Hero is about people who are never recognized for their brave actions while movie stars are. Just think a little bit.
@Joe Kinchicken LOL, wow for you to say Rush doesn't perform good music is just ridiculous. Thanks for stopping by &trying to school a bunch of no nothings a what real rock n roll is.. -Ignorance is bliss!
A lot of people throw around the words "greatest of all time" when people die but in this case we truly did lose the best ever. Thank you so much Mr. Peart! Your lyrics and music will live forever
Steve Parr...... what about Shania, sorry, Eileen? If she could play this solo surely that would be perfection, visually and aurally....... could we fit Bryan in anywhere?
2:03 The line in the song is "can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend" when geddy finishes the line he looks at Alex and he replies with "who me?"
This is a chemistry and a friendship no other band has ever had. Thats why I love those guys. 40 years of amazing prog and they were able to remain best friends. Fantastic.
In 1989, my best friend, a hard core RUSH fan, took me to see them live in Oklahoma City. I instantly went from casual listener to fan. Afterwards, I insisted (against his wishes) that we follow the band to their hotel to meet them. We did and while Geddy Lee was politely signing my friends tour book I saw Neil Peart leap out of the limo and literally sprint past all the fans gathered by the front door. He was gone in a flash to calls of his name. I thought to myself at the time "What a jerk". Years passed and I ended up working as a dj at a classic rock radio station. For the first time in my life I actually listened to the lyrics of Limelight and recalled my friend telling me that Neil was the lyricist. It suddenly clicked in my mind. He wasn't a jerk at all. He was living his words. "I have no heart to lie. I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend." Respect. Rest in peace Neil. The best drummer ever.

He had to drop a deuce, quit reading bs into it Mr. DJ.
i also believe he's a god and maybe i used the wrong word, he might not be underrated but unknown instead, because when people talk about the greatest guitarists, they often mention Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eddy Van Halen, David Gilmour, Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and rarely do they mention Alex Lifeson. Don't get me wrong, i think he's one of the best, i'm also a guitar player, but since he's in a band with probably the best bassist and drummer, i feel like he's easily forgotten by some people
Jérémie Campeau-Poirier Anton putting the word Keith Richard and greatest guitarists together are just ignorant so don't care for their opinions. These 3 guys here as true maestros of their instruments in the rock world
Jérémie Campeau-Poirier I agree. The other two get way more recognition...maybe because there are fewer ‘true’ bass players and Neil is so darn listenable and (I believe) one of the very best for contributing such busy (and difficult) playing yet it fits in so perfectly with their music. He does seem to be the ‘showpiece’ of their music and for sure their shows.
You can’t really crown a stand alone #1 band of all time but there’s some that are just unbelievable talent and Rush is one of those bands at the 1 spot.
Still processing the death of my mother and Neil in the same week. The first concert I ever went to was Rush on their Hemispheres Tour in 1978 Seattle. Thank You Mom and Aunt Jean for taking me to my first concert. If there is an afterlife, I hope you meet Neil. Godspeed Mom. Listening to Rush now will forever have a new meaning for me.
+Golradir999 Absolutely pissed these guys are not performing for the Super Bowl Halftime. They are better than Coldplay IMO and unlike many artists that performed the super bowl, RUSH did it all themselves(playing instruments, writing, singing, working their asses off)!
I've been playing the drums since 1960. I have the upmost respect for Neal Peart's drumming skills. Oh...before I forget, I been a Rush fan for God Only Knows How Long. I hope they are around for another 10-to-20 more years.
I am from the 20th century and RUSH played brilliantly live. The Moving Pictures album and Limelight were absolutely brilliant songs from the early 1980's. Folk in the 21st century will never hear anything like it. Maybe in the 23rd century audiences will hear such brilliant all round music. Living on a lighted stage approaches the unreal for those who think and feel. Rush. Brilliant lyrics from the 20th century. Haha.
So so wish I got to see this band perform in concert..Makes me sad realizing I'll never get to see one, if not the best drummers to ever perform Rock n Roll... Rest In Peace Neil Peart!
I can listen to that guitar solo on repeat all day, every day. I love it. So emotional and beautiful. A message of sadness of loneliness; yet with a glimmer of hope, somewhere deep within.
RIP Neil Peart. Your legacy will live on forever and although you're now gone. Your music will continue to inspire millions around the world for generations to come.
I remember the first time I heard RUSH was when WMMS 101 (Cleveland Radio Station) first aired Working Man. My buddy and I was blown away. We first thought it was a new Zeppelin song but really listening to it we knew it was not. We heard the name Rush and went out and bought the album. MAN!!!! What a mind blower this album was. Loved it!! Hard Rocking but yet had good rhythms and just overall kicked ass. Still love it to this day including “Find My Way Home.” Fly by Night being their next album, which featured Neil Peart. (Note: N. Peart replaced John Rutsey due to medical issues prior to the FBN release.) Featuring the drumming that Neil Peart contributed to the sound of RUSH was F’kn unbelievable. So much going on it was hard to grasp. Then I had the opportunity to see them live at what used to be the Cleveland Coliseum (now gone away). I was so blown away that three (3) guys could put out such sound, great musicians, and just wonderful music. I became a RUSH fan from that point on and even to this day. RUSH has been under-estimated / recognized for their music, talent for years. Finally getting into the Rock-n-Roll HOF. GEE! Ya Think!!!! Each one of the band members of RUSH should be recognized as TOP-OF-THE-LINE Musicians. You can’t beat that talent. Really! Set back and really watch Alex Lifeson play his guitar(s). J.C. that guy is just frk’ing out of bounds. Getty Lee’s base work is far surpassed any that I have ever seen. And I have been to many concerts in my day. Of course, “Neil Peart.” The BEST ever percussionist that has hit the live stage. Of the many 35 RUSH concerts I have attended, I am very thankful that I was able to see these guys play. If anyone has never seen there live shows (or REALLY listen to their music), they have missed out. My heart dropped when Neil Peart passed away. I just felt so empty like I just lost my best friend (which unfortunate I did in 2006). I wish the best for Alex and Getty and hope at some point we can here some music from them in the future. Thank you, Alex, Getty, and Neil, for bringing us such great music over the many decades. Truly will be missed……
You don't even have to particularly be from this kind of music generation or like this music at all, you have to be blown away by the amount of fucking talent here... it's amazing
No drummer in rock history as been air drummed more then Neil Peart. You don't have to be a drummer or a musician for that matter to be influenced by this man, who has captivated and inspired more people on this rock we spin on then any other person in music history. He is a living legend who walks with transparency and humility. Thank you Neil for everything you have contributed to this human race. I for one have been inspired and change because of it
Still to this day..I remember listening to this album..up to that point I had never heard anything that was so technical..it was like it was yesterday..my dad banging on my door..telling me to TURN IT DOWN.. he meant well..but it didn’t work..🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Alex with miles of smiles playing the LP with the FRose and nailing that solo...Neil and Geddy laying down the groove and melody and the audience air drumming, air guitar and singing along. Great performance.
I saw some ladies rockin in that audience. See, some women DO like Rush! RIP Mr. Peart. Theres only a musician like Neil Peart every few decades. Big respect 🍁
One of the only singers who can still hit most of the high notes! All amazing trio, RIP Neil Peart...never was there a better drummer and lyricist, never will there ever be a better drummer and lyricist!
The thing about the solo is that it may not be technically virtuostic but its just perfect. After so many years of listening to " Rush" its impossible to imagine how they would sound if lets say Alex were to be replaced by some other guy. Its his and their trademark sound. Well its just my opinion. In a nutshell Alex is just perfect for Rush and his ambience , chaotic at times and melodic solo is probably what I would prefer listening to then what we call "GUITAR MASTUBATORY" . It moves the mind and soul everytime then to be always thinking what is he playing . My opinion.
I've always been completely transfixed with the utter complexity of Rush's music. From time signature to melodic variation to key changes, they are mind-blowingly complicated. How does one attempt to compare their work with the complete shit that comes from the radio now? As I watch video from this concert I am amazed that Getty continues to sing the lyrics of dozens of songs. Besides the music taking wild turns around every corner, he has to remember all the words. Ah, but then I caught a glimpse of the teleprompter on stage in front of him. Thank god. He almost seems human now....almost.
Tears are flowing as I watch this band these guys are like so many of ours stars u wish they could live to be in their 90s.Peace to Alex & Getty. May God continues his blessings of Neil and his family
+citrano2012 Maybe asking him to lighen up - nothing serious. Theses guys have been playing together forever. They know each other and know when to give each other cues....especially after playing the same some thousands of times.
+Wayne Ast yes it could be he was just saying lighten up. I'd like to know what he said. Yes I know, they've been together for so long. I've listened to them since I was a teenager. I believe they've been together 40 years now.
I was late to the Rush party. Didn’t get into then until my 30’s. One of the greatest bands ever with possibly the greatest rock drummer ever. Rest in Paradise Neil. I hope you’re jamming with Bonzo.
First time I heard his voice like this I thought it was sad; but honestly even though it may have gotten technically worse with age I’ve actually come to really like the sound of it now but hey I’m weird so
Rip to one of the greatest drummers to ever walk this Earth
I'm running the gauntlet of Rush videos after hearing that news

Neil Peart: Jeans and T-shirt
Alex Lifeson: 3-piece suit

Good eye. I was thinking the same. He seemed a bit out of place there.
class act so fortunate to have spent 40 years with RUSH thank you GOD
When I was in the Navy and you did not know the uniform of the day, it was always better to dress up than dress down to avoid being out of regs. 😆
Steven Hensley ya but when you’re part of the Triad you come into work however you want, at least a lot of mine would 😂😂😂
You know you have one of the greatest drummers ever when the crowd is playing air drums.

True genius and a great artist!
In my lifetime i doubt there will be another drummer of his caliber...he is in a class of his own..
Well said.....
All-time is a long time. Jesus Christ is all that matters in the end
In every Rush video, Alex always looks like he's having a lot of fun. He truly loves his job.
A great guitarist.. but his mannerisms on stage sometimes looks very silly
The air-drumming of fans, priceless.
I saw Rush 16 times in my life and proud of it .
You should be. I'm jealous!
Only 3 times for me but they were the best concerts in my life😎
none for Me :(
Ken Able For real ??
I lost count after 30. I've seen them 8 times just since 2002!
Canada's greatest contribution to the world. thanks.

the synchronized movement of the people smashing an air cymbal at 1:08 really puts wide smile to my face, while banging my head.. in synchronicity. :)
An Air Cymbal Orgy!

@@kevinstarski1598 Van Halen comes more to mind, but this is as close as I can imagine.
Metallica
certainly as a three piece
i dont see david gilmour, roger waters, nick mason, and richard wright anywhere????
You can just feel the energy between band members. They love each other.
That solo is so simple, yet so moving that it doesn't have to be complex to work. It's just so well written
Play a million notes and reach one heart. But play the right one note, and reach a million hearts.
and superbly executed.
Greatness at all levels!!!remember this on radio 36 yrs ago...stupendous brilliance can only come from Rush...
I'm not a drummer by any means, but when Neil Peart's behind it, no matter how simple it sounds I assure you it's not! A true master of his craft.
Its true. Drumming on progressive rock is very not easy. Neil is the master drummer :)
In 1989, my best friend, a hard core RUSH fan, took me to see them live in Oklahoma City. I instantly went from casual listener to fan.
+citrano2012 " Who me ?" he say
Donald Duck It could have been "who me?" yes. Also there's no "release of a mic" by Geddy prior to Alex's solo.
Goosebumps every time I hear that solo
Why don't these guys ever get to play Superbowl Halftime Show?
Bray Zap As they are not Americans. I think Rush has played a halftime show for the Grey Cup. (Canadian Football League - CFL)
Because they're too good.
I was late to the Rush party. Didn’t get into then until my 30’s. One of the greatest bands ever with possibly the greatest rock drummer ever. Rest in Paradise Neil. I hope you’re jamming with Bonzo.
Yes and arguably the greatest Rock bassist ever in Geddy and for sure a top 10 rock guitarist in Alex. All three were sensational at their craft.
His voice is strange in this video...
his voice has broken with age. this is simply how he sounds live now. sad, but still not bad
too much smoking.
First time I heard his voice like this I thought it was sad; but honestly even though it may have gotten technically worse with age I’ve actually come to really like the sound of it now but hey I’m weird so
I believe he was sick. He sounded great on the R40 tour.
We're all getting older.
Best drummer ever
Grew up in my hometown!
