- Some have said over time that beating Wizpig is next to impossible, well it isn't. If you get used to doing the green boost trick (which is mentioned in game by Taj the genie) and you become familiar with the track, then it's relatively easy. To be fair, if you can beat the Greenwood Village silver coin challenge and thus get to this point in the game, you should have some idea of what you are doing.
Also, it should be noted that the actual final showdown, is not nearly as challenging.
This video is ten years old now, damn.
Most people get wrong the boost...make sure you let go of accelerating right before you hit it to get that green boost, then don't start accelerating again till the boost is completely finished!
Finally beat wiz pig after 17 years. I thank you kindly sir. My 5 year old self sheds tears of joy. The soul of that little boy may now rest, for I am now a man.

Thank you. This is the thing that I missed. It's really unlogic, or non-intuitive to not try to press A in exact that moment, when you hit the booster... Why release A for such a long time, when you wanna be as fast as possible? Anyways - finally made it!!

Fear is defined by the stomping sound of wizpig barely behind you making tracks faster than you driving.
The fear was real! Fear of not knowing if his stomp would crush you, or give you that final “kick” to finish barely ahead of him looool!
This race is near impossible without hitting the green boosts but the trick that helped me the most was if you stay in front of wizpig, he will push you giving you a slight boost. This trick takes practice to get used to because there are spots on the track where he will push you sideways instead of forward, but after I figured it out, it wasn't too hard.

You do not have to tap A repeatedly to begin with. Just completely let go of A. Also, the green boost is the ultimate color as well as your timing on when to press A again. You can also still let go of A even if you didn’t get the green boost. You’ll still go super fast.

As a kid, this race always scared me the most. Not sure if it was the thunderstorm or the music but this boss always freaked me out. Still does

Whenever you hit a boost, LET GO OF THE A BUTTON AND LET THE BOOST FIZZLE OUT COMPLETELY before you press A again. If you press A during the boost, it cuts it off completely. You NEED to master this trick if you want any hope of beating this boss. Without using it, you CANNOT and WILL NOT beat him no matter how hard you try.
Yes you can. Not all green boosts were needed. I managed to beat him back in the days by luckily having him give me a kick in the final stretch, even tho I had either missed or gotten a purple boost instead of a green. His kick is a hit and miss though (precision and timing was needed), it could either give u a push or crush you.
Never knew about releasing the button until the boost had to fizzle out thing until now, I always used to push the button back again as soon as hitting the green boost tho.
My parents bought me this game when it first came out in 1997. . . . It's 2019 and I am just finding out about a boost I never knew existed... wtf. I never beat this dude.

This makes me remember my sis. We used to play that game like... 13 years ago. I was 4 and she was at the highschool. I never knew the original title and this fact has been killing me for years. But today I found it! My only memory of it was this boss battle (y'all don't know how traumatized I got).

I truly believe this race was harder than the 2nd race. You literally could not miss a boost pad on this race or you would get dusted by Wizpig. I can’t count how many tries this race took for me back then.
Such a infuriating but fun ass race
Another tip is that if he's ever gaining on you, position yourself right between his legs when hes directly behind you, and if he hits you he'll actually give you a push forward
The tip is - take the acceleration off right before you hit the boost then make sure the boost is completely finished before accelerating again. It helps to be able to see your speed dial so you can practise it.
Even if you are behind in the final lap, if you get that lap perfect, you’ll beat him.

HAHAHA! Hahaha ha ha.... When I played this as a kid I didn't even know about the green boost trick.... You can NOT phantom how painstakingly, rage inducing this race was to win WITHOUT the green boost. The only way I could think of was use boost right off the start and swerve in front of him for him to kick you ahead of him.
Add this with the chance that he could step on you and flatten you, with the likeliness of him kicking off the road making you miss boosts. AAAAAND he will catch up to you multiple times... meaning more kicks that HAVE to go well.

He can flatten you? It's been years but I don't ever recall Wizpig being able to flatten you. In my experience, you were just batted aside.

Non-ironically on my running Playlist as an adult. Makes me feel like he's right on my tail again and it makes me go FAST. And despite the ptsd the tune SLAPS.
I actually raced against him when I was 5 and truth be told... he didn't scare me, I was too infatuated with the music. It still took me 11 tries to beat him, but it was well worth the effort to finally beat that piggy

I beat this game again on an emulator 2 years ago after not playing it for 20 years.
Managed to remember how the boosts etc work but still struggled.
Then I remembered an old trick I didnt use the whole game…. Tapping A makes you go faster than holding A.
Also, each character has very different stats and some are far better than others on the really hard maps.
Let's be honest: Wizpig sounds absolutely terrifying!
I grew up with this game and this race is the only thing i havent beat, it had no business being as hard as it is 😂
When I was playing Diddy Kong Racing for the first time, I missed the genie hint on zippers. I struggled so hard winning races, and never could beat Wizpig the second time. Finally, ten years later, I restarted the game, caught the hint, and beat the entire game with ease.

Wow! Awesome racing! After owning this game since it came out in 1997, I am finally getting back to trying to finish it. I could never pass the Silver Coin Challenge of Spaceport Alpha. I finally did so tonight (after countless restarts) and subsequently the Silver Coin Challenge of Star City. Now I am going after that silly pig. I can't believe I never knew about the green boost trick. So far I'm not having any luck, but I'm sure I'll get there. Thanks for the video.
When Wizpig says you can't beat me, HE MEANS IT! I grew up with this game and this race is STILL Brutal.
Small hint. Spam A and you go faster than normal. (approximately 90mph is the max when spamming, then holding A when you only reach 60mph)

I remember sitting on the couch with excitement after a day of failure watching my uncle beat this race and do so after like 6 tries.
Oh, so the point is to let go of the accelerator and NOT press it until the boost is over. Most of us just let go of it just for the green color, but if you press A right after that, the boost will do nearly nothing.

@@annajansen5280 not fully. While Taj DOES tell you about the general idea, most players will slam the acceleration button again as soon as you hit the boost, and think that is what they meant.

I loved this game, first one I got for N64. I loved all the secrets and exploring, but holy shit it was a hard game. I always got in trouble for swearing after losing to the bosses so many times. It was insanely hard and still gives me anxiety hearing the music.

Isn't it kind of funny jow wizpig is faster on foot than on his rocket? Seriously... you play as drumstick or TT for the second wizpig race and you're naturally faster than him, as long as you don't crash you'll pull ahead and stay ahead.

I had been using Pipsi the whole game due to her good steering, but found Wizpig to be 100% impossible to beat with her. Even getting green boost on literally every zipper, I could not get ahead of him at all. Switch to Diddy....beat it first try.

One of the hardest bosses in video game history, even his 2nd phase is easier. Just miss one turbo boost and it's over. Even if I knew about the green boost early by watching a speedrun as a kid, it's still not easy

You can breakaway from wizpig as drumstick but you have to use brakes occasionally due to handling

For some reason the water always, always, ALWAYS reaches me in this area (0:59) and it slows me down.

It’s actually insane that they thought this was a fair race. Yeah, you can fuck the game over and just tap A over and over again to utterly destroy him, but trying to do this race legit is the stuff of legends. Rare weren’t playing games, you need to stop fucking around, get your nose to the ground and get good if you want to even have a hope of defeating him.
