Man... I recently made the jump from a Spektrum DX8 to this TX16S. I have been flying long enough now to know how limited I was with Spektrum, but was TOTALLY overwhelmed with this radio and OpenTX when I first turned it on. Was actually beginning to regret my purchase... THANK YOU SO MUCH for the great series of videos on this topic. They are clear and in-depth, while still moving at a good pace. I am happy to say that I have almost all of my models moved over and am really enjoying OpenTX. The TX16S is also an amazing piece of hardware.
Your comment just made my day. It takes a lot of time and effort to put this material together and when I hear it helped someone center, get focused, and work through the complex problem that is OpenTx for new users it makes the effort worthwhile. Thanks for taking the time to write and share your experience. I'm very happy to know this material has helped you get your arms around this amazing platform. J
Hows the gimbals feel on the tx16 compared to the dx8? I have to get a new radio my DX6e gimbal broke inside. Im really waiting for the spek. Nx6 to be available the end of this month..but im about sold on the TX16 seeing all the reviews about it...but i thought id ask how good the sticks are..
@@shadowmaster9780 Radio is great, have gotten totally comfortable with it. 2.4g range is on par with Spektrum, 900MHz is unbelievable. Still highly recommended!
@@aaronstrom16 Gimbals are good, maybe a shade below DX Spektrum, but not enough to be an issue for me and I consider myself a decent RC pilot. I would recommend getting the TX16S with Hall sensors, as I hear that DOES make a difference.
You can sub more than once via the multiplier effect--TELL YOUR FRIENDS :) I'm rendering another good one right now. Stand-by. Should be available in about an hour.
I'm just like to say thank you very much for all of your videos/playlists, particularly the ones regarding open tx on the radiomaster TX16S. I have recently bought a TX16S, and although open tx is relatively straight forward to work with once you understand how it works, it is nevertheless quite daunting to someone in the beginning. The only experience i had with a transmitter previously was a Flysky i6, as I'm sure you are aware the jump between the two is incredible. Your videos have helped to comfortably understand open tx in a revy short space of time, of course im still by no means an expert, but i am now feeling reasonably competent. Not to mention also enjoying the experience so so much! Your videos are very straightforward, informative and the information is fed to the viewer in a brilliantly understandable fashion. I can't thank you enough, please keep doing what you are doing. There are so many people out there I'm sure that have been able to have a lot fun within the hobby thanks to you efforts. Very kind regards, Arron. (From England)
Just broke my QX7, so took the plunge and purchased this radio in the masterfire version. Was looking for some good tutorials and yours has answered every question I had so far. The best review I have seen mate. Perfect, 🇬🇧
Awesome!!! Thank you for doing what you do, new subscriber and i am enjoying you're video's very much! It's hard to find someone to show you how to operate or program these radio's, no rc clubs or shops any where near me! Just a old timer in the mountains wanting to learn how to program these open TX radio's and get a plane up in the air! I do find it a bit over whelming at times and that's what is great with you're video's i can watch it over and over till it sinks in the brain bucket! I personally think you are the best on youtube for us newbie's to open TX / Multi radio's, you sir are a gem to the rc community, you're video's are straight to the point, very clear speech, and a nice zoomed in shot of the radio's screen as you explain it with you're pointer 110% Awesome!!! I'm a RC helicopter pilot who has switched from Spektrum to OpenTX on a Horus and an RM TX16S. With the dearth of tutorials on setting up helis, even yours are helpful for learning more about how to use OTX, so good job.
Great Video...first time I got lost was at 24:41 I didn't see the hard press on TELE button. Took me a few replays but I got it in the end. I'm a newby which doesn't help. Now I'm off to look at all your other videos. Thank you.
Really great video series about Radiomaster TX 16 S. You are really the best on you tube. Your video will be very helpful with my next radio transmitter Radiomaster TX 16 S.
Fantastic video, and very timely, as I now have the radiomaster tx16s arrive finally today, which took about 1&3/4 months from Banggood. I think I might have to subscribe to get more information about how to set up my new radio. Very helpful video, thanks very much.
@@RCVideoReviews I know your mostly a plane/drone channel, but I wish you would consider doing a similar setup video for the TX16s and a CP Helicopter like OMP M2 (which is just about the hottest heli to hit the market in some time) or XK K110 that just has a basic setup for collective pitch. Your methodical style comes across really understandable to those of us who are newer to rc flight and it is really appreciated. Maybe a colab with one of the heli guys on YT could work if you aren't too familiar with the heli stuff? Just some thoughts man, again thanks for everything you post, it probably helps ten times the amount of people that actually like, comment and subscribe (like they should :P).
You'll be able to find a LOT of information out there on OpenTx. While the TX16s is relatively new, I had no problem adapting to the interface. So if you get stuck, you can always look at how to do something on Taranis for which there are countless sources and those how-to's will easily translate to the TX16s. Hopefully my video will help you with the big bits so you can get your models up and running.
Great video. I am completely new to the RC world and trying to learn OpenTX is a big learning curve. The Greater the capability the steeper the learning curve to an application. Thank you!
Thanks for the good tutorial. You are the only person so far that knows what the six red buttons are for! Even the user manual does not tell us. I am interested to learn more about flight modes as I have learnt that they are specifically designed for gliders what with wind strengths, thermals and so on. I look forward to you doing a tutorial on this aspect but again, any thanks for this tutorial. Peter
Hi John been a while enjoying catching up with your videos. just had major surgery to remove my cancer which was successful recovery will be a long affair so keep the videos coming.i currently run spectrum but this looks to be a really nice radio.great information as usual and looking forward to getting well enough to have a little fly.thanks for all your hard work 👍 all the best from England take care and stay safe 🛩👍😁🛩️🔥👍👍
So I'm completely new to flying and I just got my turbo timber evolution in today. Put it together no problem. Changed the connection to IC5 from 3 and got my first transmitter, the TX16S carbon. It's crazy how much stuff I don't understand already lol. Your video was awesome and you know your stuff. I'm subbed for sure. Send me to your best videos for getting me going and getting a profile for this new timber. It's the 1.5m version. I'm going to follow your update video now and get it up to date. Current software is from 2022.
Here's a playlist for you: th-cam.com/play/PLy3TC1ILJYTi_r8rRrgLmpJ17WGEZ4lYo.html Good place to start. I usually recommend just sitting down with the radio, watch the videos, play along and do what the videos show. Eventually when you do that, a little light bulb will go off and you'll be unstoppable. Start with Inputs, Mixes, and Outputs. That flow is the heart of EdgeTX.
@@RCVideoReviews when watching your video on updating to the latest version. I seem I don't need to download the 2.8.x version because I'm already on 2.7.x. If that's correct I can just download 2.9.4 (the latest version) and then install that? Right?
Excellent tutorial for the initial setup of this radio. Never used OpenTX, so will stay tuned for more, especially using the global function. Unaware of using the global function vs model copy function when adding new models. I’m particularly interested in assigning voice alerts to certain switches to standardize my radio without going through a new setup and having to reprogram, and likely forgetting to address something. I learned something new today....Thanks!
You're welcome. I'll get that Global Functions video done soon. It is a very useful feature for settings you want to use on every plane. Saves time and helps drive consistency from model to model.
Great tutorials. Been looking forward to following your tutorials. It was a relief to finally receive my tx16s after waiting so long for it to arrive from banggood, but it’s faulty! Its now got to be returned to radiomaster for repair. Great start.
Thank you for making this video series..... so I wouldn't have to! Seriously, as a fellow maker of "educational" RC content on TH-cam, I wanted to say that you are doing a fantastic job with this series. 😎
Really useful you're right up there with Andrew Newton and Painless 360. I've been holding off getting to grips with my TX16S due to work, there's so much it can do you really need to set aside some time and be in the right frame of mind to absorb it.
Appreciate the comment. Take your time and toy with it. You can't hurt the radio. Just play around until you feel like you've got it sorted out enough to fly with it.
Another great video, sir. Thank you so much. Could you please tell me how to turn On voice notification for switches? My TX16s is silent when I toggle switches
Special Functions handle assigning voices. Look for an option in Special Functions called Play Track. You can then select audio files in your SOUNDS folder.
Just bought this radio , and your video has been so helpful . Is it possible to tell me what order to look at the videos in ? What the next video to watch after this so that I an not getting ahead of my self .
In the beginner series, I've ordered them in the playlist. So start from the top in the playlist. In the Intermediate/Advanced series there is no particular order.
Great thanks , I am in the Caribbean just getting started in the hobby , bought an xfly glaster and I have an areoscout also . Looking to get more in the future once I get better at flying 😂😂
Hi great video got my tx16s two days ago still getting used to open tx had a taranis years ago but at 76 you tend to forget, did a bind in a AR6600 and looks good, shame the range test doesnt work at low power will do a long range test at our field when next i go. Thanks again
Thanks for the comment. It's always a little gamble doing bench videos, so I'm glad you're finding them useful. I think the only complaint I have on the radio so far are the plastic s1/s2 knobs--and that isn't much of a gripe. The rest of the radio seems solid so far.
Just bought the Twin Timber. Got it hooked up the the tx16s and everything works. Just got the reverse to work yesterday. Where do I find what the acronyms stand for when I get into telemetry?
Yet another great video. I have a power high speed glider (HK Excalibur). I used the wizard and when I came to tail, I chose V-tail. My receiver is TAER. When I bind the plane, nothing works right. No idea why.
I didn't do an elevon mix in this video, but I think if you watch it, you'll understand how to make an elevon mix: th-cam.com/video/kEA71RB5UtY/w-d-xo.html

I think that open systems may offer advantages to model boat hobbyists who may want many more operating features than model planes, etc. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Any modern radio should be able to handle any 4 channel plane. I definitely wouldn't couch OpenTx as a boat system though. I didn't think it was possible until recently, but I used every switch and every channel on an iNav setup for a mini talon recently. First time ever. Glad to help...
thank you. someone did a radiomaster video without implying drone use only. me and a friend did a few reliability tests with this radio. we have 3 planes. a timber x, fms suprez trainer and an escapade 60 size. the fms has a flysky rx in it. the timber has an X8R so does the escapade. we flew all day with the flysky rx and got great range. we did 2 batteries on the timber x and on the second flight there was a total radio out for 2 seconds only 200 feet out. the escapade flew on a different radio with xjt module and also had a radio out. we also tested 2 sfhss futaba receivers and they performed nicely so far. idk what it is with our field and FRSKY but that is not god to be having these glitches. form what im gathering you should ditch the jumper and go for radio master all day
Thanks for sharing what you know. Just to be clear: The TimberX on the X8R--was that using a TX16s multi module or a Jumper? It is disturbing to hear the X8R timed out. Those are very good Rx's. Also, what radio had the XJT module? Definitely not cool to have radio outages. I'll be flying this radio tomorrow using the internal multi with a V8R-ii and an S6R. I'll report what I find out.
@@RCVideoReviews the timber x with x8r was flying on the radiomaster. My escapade was flying with an old jr v8 channel with an cut module. Both receivers were brand new out of the box
I flew an S6R, V8fr-ii, X4R, and D6FR today. I didn't tune any of them with the Fine Tuning option and they were all rock solid today. I'm adding a couple of logic switches to announce RSSI at 60, 50, 40 for my Katana and Smoove when I fly them on the new radio.
AKA - Michael...Great info! I have the E-Flite Maule M7 that has flaps and I'm not sure what to select. I know to select flaps, but do not know how many channels, one or two. On the SYS button, and when you scroll down to the bottom, where is say; Default channel order and mode, what should it be set at, RTEA, AETR etc. Thank you so much in advance!
If your flaps are connected via a Y-Cable and only take one channel on your receiver, then it's just one channel. Most planes should only have one channel for flaps. It would take a pretty special use case to use two channels for flaps I think (maybe glider flyers). Default Channel order is whatever you want it to be. In OpenTx land we don't really care that much about things like channel order. I think that is used so when you create a new model the software knows your preference for what surface to put on what channel. i.e. If you have AETR and create a new model, the software will do this: A=Ch1 E=Ch2 T=Ch3 R=Ch4 If you have RTEA and create a new model, the software will do this: R=Ch1 T=Ch2 E=Ch3 A=Ch4 I've always used AETR but it really doesn't matter.
Great video, been watching this a few times. Now to do Throttle cut off.. but quick question... Not finding info on what does "Insert Before" or "Insert After" in the mix tab. Really confused on that one. I'm a long time (12yrs) with Spektrum, and have a Jumper TX16, and now just upgraded to Edge with the new Radio Master XT16S, so basically it's the same premise, but what does that actually mean??
if you're familiar with the concept of copy/paste on a computer...same thing. You can copy a line, then paste it before or after the line the cursor is on.
WoW! I lost the rest of my post above. To continue: Is there any way, having used the Wizard to set up a model that I can go back to check the inputs I made as shown in the 4 minute to 7 minute marks on the video? I can easily double check settings made after the 7 min mark. Seems strange that I cannot double check my earlier inputs. Any information gratefully received
You can check any settings on any model using any method to create it. Using a wizard does not stop you from viewing inputs or any other aspect of the model setup. Also, my advice would be to stop using the wizard. It's a useless crutch IMHO. You're far far far better off just learning to setup your models by hitting "Create Model", letting the radio populate the first four channels and going from there.
I have not watched all your videos, but they are so good I will try them all. I'm somewhat baffled. I currently have 4 airplanes setup and ready to fly on my TX16s. I have been trying to add another plane, but it will not bind. I tried 3 different DSM receivers, and they will not bind. What am I doing wrong?
Hello from Brazil! Congrats for the videos! A Question: My TX16S doesn't show the letters relative to the channel. The Open TX versiona is: 2.3.11. Its been a couple of day that i am whith the radio.
Any idea why my Volantex mini warbirds bind ok but have to be rebound every time i restart the tx16s? I disconnect the plane first and power it on last. If i leave the tx16s on and disconnect the plane, then reconnect, it, its still bound. But when the tx16s is turned off, I have to re bind. Any clues. Thanks
Great review! However I'm having problems choosing picture for new created model. I can see the picture in the folder from the SYS menu - SD CARD, but it's not on the list when I edit the model. Can you help please?
I just got my controller. I git the tx16 4 in 1. Which one connects to spektrum receiver & set up this way as yours? Mine doesnt say open tx, it says edge tx. & it doesnt ask me those questions, to set a plane.
I agree. I don’t use the wizard so when I do I bumble around a little bit. Once you get a few planes on the radio you can just use them as templates for more setups. That’s what I did these days.
@@RCVideoReviewsAs a new guy I'm pretty sure my first few planes would be birds from HH having Specktrum ASX3 and SAFE technology. Is it easy enough to set up switches for that with OpenTX on this Transmitter? Is that the kind of stuff you were talking about when you mentioned the 6 "airplane" switches? Thanks.
@@BillKisel The 6 position switch can be assigned to any channel you want. I'm not a Spektrum guy, but my understanding is that Channel 5 is the one for Safe/ASX3 and you can assign any switch to that channel. If you need more information, you should check out our discord server: discord.gg/jSFTASU
I just purchased the TX16S and I really appreciate your videos, the information save me a lot of time, but isn't there all way a but!! I program my first plane and a couple of the control surfaces were reversed. I ran the video a couple of time and nothing was talk about how to reverse the servos. In the user manual in the INPUT page under WEIGHT it said put in a negative value and the servo will reverse, but not on the input page do it on the output page where you have to reverse a small arrow to reverse a servo. a learning curve I do like the transmitter. I also would like to active the sound like your radio have not found that yet.
Yup, outputs is where you reverse the servos. I'm using the Amber sound pack. You can download it here: hmvc.eu/Amber22.rar Unpack and place it in your SOUNDS folder. Glad the videos have been helpful for you.
Great video your information is excellent I just received my TX 16s today and I'm setting up a new model. An older E-flite P-51 Mustang with a Spektrum receiver I'm curious how I set up an operating the landing gear? Any help you could give me on that would be greatly appreciated
If your Rx is a 6 channel, that means gear is probably either on Channel 5 or 6. So put the switch you want to use in the Mixer on 5 or 6. That should do it.
Glad I found your site......many questions....hoping your videos will answer in a language that I can understand...giving technical along with a simpler example.......one question today...using a simple 4 channel plane model build , when picking airplane choice , does it automatically add inputs/ outputs or do you have to do that ?...I have always used spektrum radios ,everything is almost done for you...so this is quite a challenge....
if you use the plane wizard it creates the inputs, mixes, and outputs. Once you have a few working planes you’ll start new ones by making copies of your working planes. That’s what I do. Welcome to the channel!
@@RCVideoReviews another question if iI may....I have a Hobbico Vusion House Racer quad that seems to have bound using airplane Wizard ...SLT Protocol...but no throttle action........Rise Transmitter I used armed motors moving sticks down out,,,,,so do I need to program stuff for this...along with a 3 position mode switch too ?....if so I don't know how..maybe you have a video on this.....thanks for your reply.
thanks for that video and rest of it. it really helped me to understood way how it works. quick question. Throttle timer - it starts counting down or up (depends on setup) once i move the stick. However it also counts when throttle cut is active. Any idea to walk this around ? i dont want timers to work while throttle is not activated.
Set your source to Ch3 (or whatever channel in the mixer you put your throttle on) Then when the throttle cut overrides channel 3, the timer won't be active regardless of stick position.
Sir, are you still working with opentx? I have some questions about its its functionality for a project, because it's been depreciated, but seems functional for what im doing. Thanks
I haven't touched OpenTX in a meaningful way for about two years. You can always join my discord and ask way though. People who are familiar with EdgeTX may also be familiar with OTX.
Does that mean your using a different system, or your not active in the community? did you change systems? The reason i ask is i have a proximate 2 year project on a drone im designing and building. The issue is, 1, can i use the opentx system for the project since it is depreciated and un-maintained, although functioning well and properly as far as i can tell for what i need it to do *ive been learning and experimenting with it on my FC, QGC and Taranis and it seems quite capable and functional. Do you suggest i use some other system, aka edgetx,???. I would hope to have a system like opentx or similar for future projects as well, and it seems in the near future i would need to change to a system maintained and in development for future plans in UAV development, so i would like to be learning a developing in a maintained and developing system. Suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks sir.@@RCVideoReviews
I need some help please . I have a radio master TX16, I am trying to bind it to a spectrum AR631 . The AR631 is from a crashed areoscout I had . I bought a xfly glaster and I want to use it in that plane . I am getting them bind up, but the motor does not run and all the channels are all mixed up even after setting it up AETR set up . What am I doing incorrect. Really need some help here
your videos have been very helpful but I do have a question. I am setting up a plane that has dual servos for elevator with no "y" connection as well as no "y" for ailerons. is there a video to help me with that? thanks in advance bud!
Search the channel for videos about the mixer. Bottom line, each line in the mixer represents an output channel. So if you don't want your ailerons (or flaps) on a "Y", you have to connect them individually to a pin on the RX. That pin must have a corresponding mixer entry usually defined by an aileron input on EdgeTX. Keep watching my videos, I've covered this type of question dozens of times. Look for videos that talk about inputs, mixes, and outputs.
yup I found it awesome man! thanks for reply. I just figured out the ember sound pack and that was a struggle on a 10 year old MacBook. haha. thank God for backing it up like you said to do in your video about it cause I managed to delete everything somehow. it's a learning process forsure but your videos make it possible.
Glad you found what you needed. The best thing to do is take your time, watch the videos, play along with them on your radio, and keep good backups. Have fun!
I have not, but we have some guys in our #helicopter channel on discord that know their way around helos very well. Pop in and hit up Freddie or Pylon.
Great videos. They have really helped me find my way in OpenTx. BTW - I am confused regarding your Special Function example. You mention switch SH, but on my radio SH is a momentary switch. Is your switch different?
It is. I swap mine because I prefer my instant trim to be on the left and I want that to be a momentary switch: th-cam.com/video/C3OO2poE2aM/w-d-xo.html
For us old farts of the lower intellectual orders these videos are a godsend. Even little things like how to reverse the servos can stump even our Junior Brains Trust. Only 1 suggestion I could make is, if you are adding text info to the videos, could you add it to the top rather than the bottom of the screen. At the bottom it gets partially obscured by the task bar when we have to pause to catch up. :)
The 4-in-1 uses a module that enables binding with many existing RF technologies like D16, DSM, AFHDS2A etc. ELRS uses LORA modulation and will only bind with ELRS receivers; however, that list of receivers is impressive and since it is opensource, the development cycle is continuous. ELRS has also proven to be rock solid control. There are use cases for both, it kind of depends on what you're trying to accomplish.
Hi thanks for this. Very new and a little overwhelming. I'm wondering I have no H switch listed in model setup. The switch also returns to the downward position. I bought the unit second hand. Is it likely damaged ? Any suggestions welcome thank you.

Hey RC Video Reviews! I gotta ask, if the non hall sensor gimbal radiomaster will support touchscreen out of the box? Or does it need to have firmware update.
Hi Guys, is this firmware and programming the same on the Radio Master TX16S Max? I am guessing so. I am thinking about diving into Open TX though I have a fairly low milage Hitec Aurora 9. I am a bit computer savy, played with all sorts of software for auto, ham radio and an electronic tech etc., despite that there seems to be a huge learning cuve using Open Tx. Cheers and thanks for this great video.
Yes. The TX16s Max is just OpenTx, nothing special about the software. OpenTx only needs to be as complicated as you want it to be. You can setup a model in about 8 clicks. Check out my beginner playlist and just have some fun with it. It's excellent software th-cam.com/play/PLy3TC1ILJYTjqDXFB84oXVWZG14zyMYYt.html

I would like to watch a video about the advantages an "open" RC system,( Frsky, Radiomaster, etc) gives an electric powered scale model flier (me) over and above "closed" systems like Spectrum and Futaba. My Hitec Aurora 9/Optima receivers give in-flight motor battery readouts on the touch screen without telemetry devices but system is out of production.
I don't know if there's enough to do a video on this, but I can give you a few keys: 1) OpenTx is Opensource software which means the hardware manufacturers don't bear development costs which they bake into hardware costs which they charge consumers. 2) Look into options like iNav Telemetry LUA and Yapuu. I don't think you'll ever see capabilities like that in a closed system. 3) Global Functions, Special Functions, Logical Switches, Instant Trim are all excellent OpenTx features. I've not seen these capabilities on closed systems. 4) OpenTx supports the Multiprotocol module so any radio with internal or external MPM can bind to a large number of mainstream receivers. 5) Development cycle is rapid and public. You can see the bugs, milestones, and engage directly with the developers. Absolutely not possible on closed systems. 6) Portable - OpenTx is showing up on more and more radios these days. Through the use of the Companion desktop software, your model configurations become quite portable amongst radios. This makes it easy to migrate when the next "must have" radio shows up. 7) Companion - No closed system has anything like it. 8) Amber Sound Pack - Simply the best. Maybe this would be a good video...
@@RCVideoReviews So, cheaper initial price and cheaper receivers, more flexibility in switch assignments, lots of telemetry available, can bind to various brands of receivers, all if you are willing to adapt and learn some new technology and PC linked setup and maintenance procedures. Some cons in system quality and possible range issues.
Great video. Some feedback in case you don’t notice is that there’s a lot of static or hissing sound throughout the video. Just wanted to let you know in case something simple like a fan running or anything that wouldn’t require an upgrade of equipment.

8 min after I enter model name and no image I see the timer set but I cannot enter anything on the line Timer 1 I have to start with Name I have no idea what to do tks
Ok now a question for you: my 35% planes have 2 servos for aileron per wing panel. Radio doesn't give me the option for this type of setup. And I cannot link 2 servos with extension because it does need some fine tuning in order to function properly. Ideas?
Sure you can, you can set four channels using the aileron input. Two going one direction. Two going the other. Set channels 1, 2, 3, and 4 as ailerons using aileron input. Go to outputs add all four aileron channels then reverse two of them. it works. I have that same setup on my Smoove for the two elevator servos.
From what I can tell the ix12 only supports DSM and CRFS (Crossfire). This TX12s supports a massive list of protocols and as Shadow Opp.'s said, the software is OpenTx which is opensource. They have a stable branch and nightly branch. The nightly gets constant development which eventually rolls into stable. It also has an amazing PC element called OpenTx Companion which lets you setup models, backup the radio, simulate radio/model options. It's exceptionally good software. Also $629 for the Spektrum, $139 for the TX16s. So...
One last question, I set up 2 of my planes today with Spektrum 636 receivers. My new F-16 has a Spektrum 637. I am reluctant to fly it off of SAFE until I get more comfortable with the speed of landing. Do you have a video that shows how to set that up? I did seem to be able to do that on my first attempt. Jim
As I was trying to bind my airplane to the TX16s, I kept getting the message “Module update recommended”. What does this mean and how do I clear? Is there a download I missed? Jim in CA.
I have to bind my mini mustang every time I turn the TX on. There are other videos 0n youtube showing all eachine planes auto binding. it has suggested by others that i assign bind to a switch on the TX. I can not find these options anywhere and there is no auto bind option in any menu
I just looked at the model setup, internal mod, mode=multi, protocol=frsky d16 and I see bind on channel two rows down from the "bind/range" options. If you check bind on channel, auto bind is disabled: github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module/blob/master/Protocols_Details.md Unfortunately, I don't have any eachine models to test with so I can't help much beyond this.
Could you do a tutorial on how to add new model images taken from camera is this possible? And how to add custum background images, im new to open tx radiomaster tx16s
I probably couldn't do a standalone video on this, but I can sneak it into one of the other tutorials. I'll give you a quick answer on it: 1) Take picture 2) Open in photo editor of your choice. 3) Resize to 192x108 pixels 4) Name it with 8 characters or less, no spaces, no special characters. 5) Put in IMAGES folder on Radio SD Card. 6) Bob's your Uncle Custom Background Images would go in the THEMES folder in the theme you want the background for. Resize your image to 480x272. Name it background.png
Acro mode? What stabilizer are you using? The stab really shouldn't be interfering with your rates. Your rates are decided and calculated before being sent out the radio. The stab should have no idea what rates are.
Here's the link to the MPM protocol page. Futaba SFHSS is supported: github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module/blob/master/Protocols_Details.md#Futaba---21
Hello I am very new to RC planes and i followed this video but cant seem to find my Receiver in the list. I have a Spektrum AR400 receiver. any help would be appreciated
Great video!
Thanks for checking in. You have a whopper of a radio here. If you ever want to do an RC Video Reviews Special Edition let me know.

FINALLY a video setting up this radio for planes, not quads, racing quads, fpv and all that crap. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you found it and liked it.
RC Video Reviews do you have a video on how to swap toggle switch with the 2 positions switch?

I'm rendering another good one right now. Stand-by. Should be available in about an hour.
Still the best channel for all things RadioMaster OpenTX, clear and concise with great video quality
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for the kind words Arron. I'm always happy to know the work is paying off by helping people out. Welcome to OpenTx! :)
Im also thinking about making the jump from the I6X to a TX16S Mk2, how does the radiomaster perform using the FSIA6B reciever?
Just broke my QX7, so took the plunge and purchased this radio in the masterfire version. Was looking for some good tutorials and yours has answered every question I had so far. The best review I have seen mate. Perfect, 🇬🇧
Great to hear! Thank you.
Semper Fi...
I'm very glad to know my videos are helping people out. Glad you found the channel, and thanks for your service!
@@RCVideoReviews Thank you!
I'm a RC helicopter pilot who has switched from Spektrum to OpenTX on a Horus and an RM TX16S. With the dearth of tutorials on setting up helis, even yours are helpful for learning more about how to use OTX, so good job.
Appreciate the comment. Glad you found them useful.
Great Video...first time I got lost was at 24:41 I didn't see the hard press on TELE button. Took me a few replays but I got it in the end. I'm a newby which doesn't help. Now I'm off to look at all your other videos. Thank you.
Well done!
I'm glad it helped, and yes do subscribe. There will be more content on this radio for sure.
This is a great video on both the Tx16S and OpenTX, and referred to planes too! Keep up the good -and improving- work!
Thank you Enrique. Appreciate the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video.
This guy is amazing , having no problem to understand
John is the best in the business 👍
Thank you for the kind comment.
Man.....This video helped me SO MUCH! Thank you!!! I'd be lost on my RM Tx16s without your videos. Great job!
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching.
Thanks again, my TX16S was delivered today, it is pretty daunting, for a noob.
This video was truly helpful. I have a Jumper T12 Pro. Most of this info applied to my TX. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us newbies.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. I am completely new to the RC world and trying to learn OpenTX is a big learning curve.
The Greater the capability the steeper the learning curve to an application.
Thank you!
It can seem intimidating but don't let all the bells and whistles deter you. Just take it one step at a time.

I’m glad to hear you had a successful surgery. Hope you get back on your feet soon. I’ll do my part to keep the entertainment coming.

Here's a playlist for you: th-cam.com/play/PLy3TC1ILJYTi_r8rRrgLmpJ17WGEZ4lYo.html
Good place to start.
Hey, you shouldn’t use Joshua bardwell saying on another channel. Just kidding, it’s a valid comment lol.
Great tutorials.
Been looking forward to following your tutorials. It was a relief to finally receive my tx16s after waiting so long for it to arrive from banggood, but it’s faulty! Its now got to be returned to radiomaster for repair. Great start.
Hope they get you sorted out soon.
I just purchased the TX16S and I really appreciate your tutorials ! Very clear and concise, well done !
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for making this video series..... so I wouldn't have to! Seriously, as a fellow maker of "educational" RC content on TH-cam, I wanted to say that you are doing a fantastic job with this series. 😎
Very kind of you to stop in and leave a nice comment. Thank you.
Thank you! I learned how to set up the first screen by using "TELE" button. The setting of the battery voltage is: value-> Batt !
Yup. That's a weird place to hide the battery voltage. It should be one of the first widgets available and obvious, but it's not.
Nice!! How about multi-engine aircraft with 2 to 4 engines, without any y-cables, like differential thrust (rudder-like mix?) Possible on this radio?
Hi great video got my tx16s two days ago still getting used to open tx had a taranis years ago but at 76 you tend to forget, did a bind in a AR6600 and looks good, shame the range test doesnt work at low power will do a long range test at our field when next i go. Thanks again
Thanks for sharing
I am really liking these video on this Tx! I see myself having one in the next year!
Thanks again for more valuable information. So, all I need to figure out is how to set up a wing with elevons.
I didn't do an elevon mix in this video, but I think if you watch it, you'll understand how to make an elevon mix:

With FR sky you need to do the fine tuning in model setup. Grayson hobbies has a good video on this makes a big difference. (Sometimes)
@@RCVideoReviews it takes about 1 min to tune? I would still check at least a couple of them
What a great tutorial !!! well done !! you did a great job here, thanks a lot
Wow, thank you. Glad it helped!
I think that is used so when you create a new model the software knows your preference for what surface to put on what channel.
i.e. If you have AETR and create a new model, the software will do this:
A=Ch1
E=Ch2
T=Ch3
R=Ch4
If you have RTEA and create a new model, the software will do this:
R=Ch1
T=Ch2
E=Ch3
A=Ch4
I've always used AETR but it really doesn't matter.
@@RCVideoReviews gotcha, thanks my friend, I appreciate that;
On my Maule M7, flaps are CH6 (one channel). Also, I check "Disable Channel Mappings" to bind using protocol DSM X2F
Wow absolutely great video instruction. Thank you .
You are very welcome
Great video, been watching this a few times. Now to do Throttle cut off.. but quick question... Not finding info on what does "Insert Before" or "Insert After" in the mix tab. Really confused on that one. I'm a long time (12yrs) with Spektrum, and have a Jumper TX16, and now just upgraded to Edge with the new Radio Master XT16S, so basically it's the same premise, but what does that actually mean??
if you're familiar with the concept of copy/paste on a computer...same thing. You can copy a line, then paste it before or after the line the cursor is on.
Hi John, Your videos are a huge amount of help in my attempts to master OpenTX. Is there any way, having used the Wizard to set up a model, earlier
I don’t know much about DSM. Have you tried setting it to DSM Auto? It is a 4in1 right?
Hello from Brazil! Congrats for the videos! A Question:
My TX16S doesn't show the letters relative to the channel. The Open TX versiona is: 2.3.11.
Its been a couple of day that i am whith the radio.
You have to key the letters for your channels in the mixer.
Make sure the filename is less than 8 characters and it should end in PNG. I think JPG is ok too.
I just got my controller. I git the tx16 4 in 1. Which one connects to spektrum receiver & set up this way as yours?
Mine doesnt say open tx, it says edge tx. & it doesnt ask me those questions, to set a plane.
Outstanding tutorial. Does seem though that you'd have to do a couple before getting comfortable with the interface.
Thank you, so much, excellent work...stay safe.
Thanks, you too!
This might help: th-cam.com/video/WmnZM5veAiE/w-d-xo.html
Glad I found your site......many questions....hoping your videos will answer in a language that I can understand...giving technical along with a simpler example.......one question today...using a simple 4 channel plane model build , when picking airplane choice , does it automatically add inputs/ outputs or do you have to do that ?...I have always used spektrum radios ,everything is almost done for you...so this is quite a challenge....
if you use the plane wizard it creates the inputs, mixes, and outputs. Once you have a few working planes you’ll start new ones by making copies of your working planes. That’s what I do.
Welcome to the channel!
@@RCVideoReviews another question if iI may....I have a Hobbico Vusion House Racer quad that seems to have bound using airplane Wizard ...SLT Protocol...but no throttle action........Rise Transmitter I used armed motors moving sticks down out,,,,,so do I need to program stuff for this...along with a 3 position mode switch too ?....if so I don't know how..maybe you have a video on this.....thanks for your reply.

quick question.

Towards the end of this video you talk about resetting the flight timer.... How do you do that?
You can make a global function or special function with the option of reset timer.
Have fun!
do you have a video on how to set up safe mode on a Conscendo glider? Binding is ok but setting up safe mode won't work. Thanks, Al
Sorry, no. I don't use Spektrum.

Great videos! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome.
Great video and its very informative. However, I am having a problem getting the throttle to work.
Does/will THIS tx run a spektrum reciever?
Thanks! Nice videos sir! 👍
Yes it will. DSM and DSMX
Thanks for the suggestion. That's an easy one to implement.
Hello, I am interested in the Radiomaster TX16s and I wonder what the difference is between the ELRS and the 4in1 version
what makes different?
I move my momentary switch to the left side of my radios. The stock radio has a momentary switch on the right.
@@RCVideoReviews thank you.. now I'm having trouble if I set up a new model with throttle on channel 3, it is turning up on channel 2. So I move what should be elevated on the right side and it's showing throttle on the monitor. Hence giving me a throttle warning when I turn on as the right stick is central..
Ideas ? Pretty difficult with no model club it anyone else at all to chat with... 🤔
Having unintentionally reset a persistent timer, is there a way by which I can re-write the old total (in this case total airframe hours) and continue UPWARDS from there?
Not that I’m aware of. You could always make a feature request on EdgeTX GitHub.
So I used the wizard and setup my receiver in the AETR format and my plane started up wide open throttle and the controls were all wrong. Almost had a terrible accident. What could be wrong? Using AR620 Rx for a FMS super Cub...
Mode is wrong.
Just got the TX16s and it works great. I have not been able to see what the TRSS is for under widgets. It has an output of 51 but I do not know what that means. I fly a Valient with a Spektrum receiver. Appreciate any help any may have. Al
TRSS is telemetry signal strength.
@@RCVideoReviews ok thanks. What type of numbers should I have there? It shows 51, Does that mean the signal strength is half of what it needs to be? Is there a way to get closer to 100%
I heard you can get up to 32 channels on this radio ,is this achieved by linking four x eight channel recievers together and or s bus ?
You can do 16 on the MPM, and 16 on an external module. You just need Rx's that can do 16 each which is doable with s.bus.
Hey RC Video Reviews! I gotta ask, if the non hall sensor gimbal radiomaster will support touchscreen out of the box? Or does it need to have firmware update.
The non-hall radios do not have touchscreens. So you'll need to change the display if you want that feature.
Hi! Very good Information on the radio. This is Robert Wioch. I will give you always a Thumps up. you are the best out there. AAAAAAAAAA++++++++++ :))
Thanks again!
This is tremendously useful in helping me to determine whether I will abandon my 10+ year old Spektrum transmitter to move to a modern radio. I was afraid of OpenTX, and now, I'm not, thanks to you.
Glad I could help! You should probably check out my OpenTx Snippet Playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLy3TC1ILJYTjsMsQ2YF5ZCUubv0IFiWkd.html
There's a lot more 'bite sized' help in those videos.
How can I put in reverse thrust on my radio master tx16
I'm looking for instructions on how to use EdgeTX(2.9.2) with touchscreen on RM TX16S
Answered in cross-post.
Hi John, On my TX16s using the Wizard to Create a new model, I can only select Glider as the Plane logo never come black square highlighted. My jog wheel work perfectly however. Any idea? Thanks
You might want to copy the correct SD card contents over to your card again. Sounds like something is missing from the card.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks I will have a try Thanks a lot

Also, how can I contribute to your channel to show appreciation of the help you are giving me?
@@michaelgordon2553 I haven't used that gyro in some time, so I have no screenshot I can share. However, I did just post this video: th-cam.com/video/NqKFKvMlaV4/w-d-xo.html and it has very similar configuration characteristics, so it might help answer your additional questions.

I don't know if there's enough to do a video on this, but I can give you a few keys:
1) OpenTx is Opensource software which means the hardware manufacturers don't bear development costs which they bake into hardware costs which they charge consumers.
Yeah, that was some time ago. I've worked out those kinks. Thx.
@@RCVideoReviews My bad. Listened to a few from 8 months ago, but then listened to one two months old and no issues at all.
When I click on the wheel to select models, I don't get the different models on the left side like Balsa, jets and so on. I only see models and category. Did I delete these somehow and how do I get them back there? Thanks for any help.
You have to make the categories on your own. They don't come with the categories already defined.
Can Radiomaster tx16s show values in us of sticks and switches (not just percentages), like Taranis can ?
Yes, there is a firmware option in companion called ppmus. If you check that and flash it I'm pretty sure (80%) that will do what you want.
I figure it out, when you are on main screen, just long press scroll wheel and choose 'monitors'. And there you have values in microseconds.
Is that like a radio master version of an ix12
Similar and different at the same time. Uses OpenTX as opposed to what ever system Spektrum uses.
So...
@@RCVideoReviews for 139 it is a steal and no Spektrum bs prices either!
I agree. I'm impressed at the price point on this bad boy. I'm looking at Rx options next. My universe of hardware just opened up a little.
Great video! So much to learn, but really exciting! Thanks!
Sure thing Jim. You're right, there is a lot to learn, just take it in bite size chunks and have fun with it.
Jim
@@jimworley7385 Sorry, no Spektrum on this channel. Not my cup o' tea.

Awesome video, thanks. Can’t wait for my radio to arrive
Have fun with it. They’re really good radios.
If you check bind on channel, auto bind is disabled:

I believe so. It's DSMx right?
@@RCVideoReviewsyes I think so
Could you do a tutorial on how to add new model images taken from camera is this possible? And how to add custum background images, im new to open tx radiomaster tx16s
I probably couldn't do a standalone video on this, but I can sneak it into one of the other tutorials. I'll give you a quick answer on it:
1) Take picture
2) Open in photo editor of your choice.
3) Resize to 192x108 pixels
4) Name it with 8 characters or less, no spaces, no special characters.
5) Put in IMAGES folder on Radio SD Card.
6) Bob's your Uncle
Custom Background Images would go in the THEMES folder in the theme you want the background for. Resize your image to 480x272. Name it background.png
Supper informative video. Thanks for taking time to produce and share!
You’re very welcome. Appreciate the comment.
I set dual rates on the P51d mini mustang, but it only works on acro mode. Is there a way to make dual rate work on all three flight modes? Thanks.
Acro mode? What stabilizer are you using? The stab really shouldn't be interfering with your rates. Your rates are decided and calculated before being sent out the radio. The stab should have no idea what rates are.
RC Video Reviews Experience mode works w/ dual rates but not intermediate or beginner. It’s the stabilizer that is built into receiver.
Hi there, I have question I have tx16s can I bind Futaba receiver? Thanks
Here's the link to the MPM protocol page. Futaba SFHSS is supported:

Hello I am very new to RC planes and i followed this video but cant seem to find my Receiver in the list. I have a Spektrum AR400 receiver. any help would be appreciated
Don't go by Rx name, go by protocol. The AR400 is DSMX, so you need to set the MPM to use DSMX and follow the AR400 book to put the Rx in bind mode.
Nevermind! Trial and error and I got it!! haha
Thankyou for this video, very helpful and well communicated!
