Ive been OpenTX'ing my spectrum recievers on my airplanes and bnf's, and Frsky'ing my Drones.. even used my Radiomaster Tx16s for a couple of my old toy drones, and you'd be shocked at how much better these toys tend to fly on a good radio with multiprotocol. Really happy to see flitetest helping us less then affluent fliers with great gear that we can actually reasonably afford. Thanks FliteTest! Keep up the good work and Open source FTW!
You will be my GO-TO as I am learning the Tx16S radio ! And you have my endearing gratitude for doing this for our RC flying community !! Thanks so much !!!!
Unbelievably helpful for someone who just got his first EdgeTx transmitter. Even though it is not identical to OpenTx, it was close enough that I was able to setup my Maule M7 with engine cutoff and dual rates. Thanks so much!!
Thank you for showing on how to set up open TX! Old timer here trying to learn how to program these radio's, awesome, keep the video's coming on how to program these radio's! New subscriber, Semper Fi!
Thank you. Every model I own has a DSMx receiver which I don't want to replace but I've been finding myself limited by only having a DX9 tx and scared to make the jump to OpenTX. More confident now cheers.
I was just setting up an old FT Arrow I'd upgraded the receiver on from DSMX to Crossfire. This was exactly what I needed to get everything set up on my Tango 2!
Very comprehensive, thanks. I just bought the tx16 mkII, so I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. I"m a Spektrum guy since it first came out, so I'm just adding this to my stable of radios (Jeti, Futaba, Hitec and Spektrum)
This is a good tutorial on using the Radio master mk2. I am concerned about the use on BNF birds. The preprogrammed receiver, I believe , be an issue unless the order of channels is made to be in the spektrum order.
Nope. You can either 1 ...set the radio to use default Spektrum order (TAER) and load the correct version of the firmware for that (or RETA or AETR if that's what you normally use) which will pop the set-up screens in that order OR 2....leave the set-up screens at the usual as-supplied AETR configuration, leave that "disable channel mapping" box unchecked, set your plane up as AETR per the screens AND the multi module will automatically spit them out to your Spektrum receiver in the usual TAER order when you select the DSM etc protocol choice. Same for any other breeds that use different usual channel orders. OR 3...if you really want to make it hard for yourself when you insist on using over-expensive Spektrum gear, you can leave the usual stock supplied AETR radio set-up/firmware and then manually re-order the screens to TAER PLUS enable that "Disable Channel Mapping" checkbox. Again your Speky receiver will get TAER channel order. Any way you choose to do it you will have a radio that is twice as competent at half the price of your Spektrum AND can talk to about 100+ other protocols as well! 😉
Very helpful guide. Once you know how to do a thing it becomes easier to experiment with different settings. I have the mk2 with elrs, the one protocol to rule them all.
Waiting for my TX16S to arrive!! Sure I’ll need to ask many many things, I’m used to Spektrum simplicity and I’m kinda scared, so your videos will be so helpful! Thank you!!
Thank you so very much for the tutorial on setting a throttle cut switch! I am using Edgetx but it was easy to figure out the settings in spite of the difference. 👍
Great video. Small criticism. TJ said he liked to do things in simple ways. I totally agree. The KISS principle is the best principle. All for that. The thing is implementing dual rates/expo as demonstrated in this video was not the best way to achieve simplicity in the long run. It adds to Mixer complexity. It means duplication and it makes it harder to do changes later. TJ should have taken an extra minute to tell us about Flight Modes and the use of variables to define rates/expo. This avoids duplication in the Mixes and allows settings to be seen at one glance of your variable settings. p.s. If you are just starting in 2023 it makes more sense to skip OpenTx and go straight to EdgeTx.
I have a Eachine Mustang P51 with a low grade RX as supplied. So can you help by showing me how can I bind it to the little 300mm wingspan model and keep all the functions? Apparently if its bound to my Radiomaster 16s it will fly so much better due to its superior hall effect gimbals etc. Thankyou so much
Great video, thanks! I did exactly what you did and setup three different "dual" rates. I skipped the EXPO for now because I wanted to fly without first. I wonder if there is a way to put expo on a switch and only use it if you need it!? That way you can fly around in one of your different rates and "activate" expo at will... Thanks.
Hey, Thank you for the video, I finally got it going. One problem i have continually is chanel mapping. No matter how many time I input the channels its always off like throttle is on ali. What am i doing wrong?
Brilliant information on the raidomaster tx16s really has to be the best I've seen, I'm just wondering about this EdgeTx, as I'm not really interested in touch screen and open tx seems to do it all I don't fly drones only fixed wing planes. But Brilliant video thanks.
Bought radio master TX 16 s ,few days back and start to learning , this first video very helpful . First thing ,pls guide open tx version is good or edge tx version is good ??? In my radio is edge tx version , Like to know is this also ok and rest of the setting or manual in radio is same ?
Great video TJ!. How about creating a model for the Aura 5 lite ?. Since the rates and expos are handled by the aura the model would be the same for all planes. Adding a new plane would simply mean copying the model and binding it with the receiver.
I'm trying to program an FMS 1400mm T-28 with Reflex V2 stabilizer using a Flysky 8channel receiver. I can get the stabilizer to work but having a problem setting up the TX16s to switch between modes. Any help would be appreciated.
i own radio master tx16s, i am not sure if throttle when at 100% is truly 100%, when i look at channel monitor and move slider to zero, should that be at the mid line? 50% half way over the mid line?
I have a Spektrum dx6 with around 70 models on it. Is there any way these models can be imported into the tx16? This is the only thing that is stopping me buy this tx. Thanks.
Great job guys!!!!!! I got this radio a while back, now I am learning it and I love it! You explain everything so clear, thank you so much, I will subscribe to your channel now!
Yep, just Google for a video on adding images. The image resolution has to be very low, can't remember the exact size off-hand but again google for info on the RCGroups forums threads.
Hey...thanks for sharing. I am trying to understand why a 4 channel airplane is mapped to 5 channels. Any reason you can't map the 2 ailerons to one channel?
Only applies to those protocols that normally require the Multi Protocol Module to do an automatic re-map to spit the channels out in the correct order. E.G. Spektrum (DSM) if the radio is stock AETR order OR pretty well most other protocols if you set the radio up and load the correct firmware versions for a stock TAER set-up page. 😉
Why is it that everytime i set up a new model and select CH3 for throttle, then when I go into Channel monitor and move the mode two left side stick up, it says I am moving channel 2 .. I'm lost.
@@theoztreecrasher2647 I did - th-cam.com/video/x0SzOaB5W24/w-d-xo.html. I finally found a simple fix - checked box to 'disable channel mapping' in the model. Problem solved
But arent you supposed to follow Spektrums channel order (TAER) on the rx, eventhough the tx is setup as AETR? And then the module mixes for you? Also, you can push the bind button after the AR620 is powered up.
Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell anybody about the rudder. I noticed that too 😂. Typically it was backwards on setup so sadly force of habit and apparently I overlooked that it was correct. BUT with the video at least people know how to reverse the reverse 😂😜
been flying Spectrum and Hitech for years. have had this radio for 2 years . baught this radio for non spectrum recievers and have spent many hrs trying to figure this radio out,,,,,,,,,,2YEARS of time. evry video I watch is worthless because none of the windows and isntruction match whats on my screen.....its not as simple as all these videos claim
Well I just bought the tx16s mk2 max with edge tx and what’s on your screen is not what’s on mine. How about re doing a video with the newer models.? Also you are pushing buttons so quickly without telling why you need to do it. All in all I still am having difficulty just entering a simple 4 channel plane. You You Tubers seem to forget that many of us are starting on square one. Try to think back when you started. I bet you were in a fog just like a lot of us.
So nice to see Flite Test cover something other than Spektrum!
As a beginner I've watched lots of videos on this and that's the best by far 👌
TJ, that was one of the best OpenTX videos I've ever seen! It was crystal clear! Please keep em coming!!!
Each day I get closer of finishing my model and your videos are really helpful.
You'll live, Will Amaru (the name I gave to it)
Fantastically clear, unlike many! Thanks from Olde Englande :)
Great video for new customers of radio master TX 16 s
Fantastic, dude! Thanks a lot! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Love those videos, thanks TJ ! Looking foward for that TX
Very nice job. I guess I didn't realize there were other options out there for radio's. Love it, more options.
Great clear tutorial. Thanks
Extremely helpful tutorial...many thanks
Again great information on the raidomaster tx16 open tx16s Thanks.
Hey, TJ. Huge thanks for the excellent guide!
Thanks for the cool Tips. Greets from Germany 👊

In my radio is edge tx version ,
Like to know is this also ok and rest of the setting or manual in radio is same ?
Thank you! You should make that little plane a flying model! 😆
TH-cam just a little too fast for me I'm not that young anymore but thank you for😮😊
You helped me so much, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where has been the weekly video on the main Flite Test channel?
Thanks!

Great job guys!!!!!!

You explain everything so clear, thank you so much, I will subscribe to your channel now!
I got the TX16s now problem is I bound a Mantis 85 the the radio and set some swiches to arm but it wont spool up when i move the throttle
up
I like your works keep it up
I'll keep watching and looking but have one question now. Timer?
Can I add a photo of an actual plane I built or have customised to ensure I select the exact model on my RX?
Yep, just Google for a video on adding images. The image resolution has to be very low, can't remember the exact size off-hand but again google for info on the RCGroups forums threads.
Do you have a video on flaperons?
Hey...thanks for sharing. I am trying to understand why a 4 channel airplane is mapped to 5 channels. Any reason you can't map the 2 ailerons to one channel?
You can certainly do that - if you don't want to set up the Ailerons as Flapperons. 😉
TJ this was an awesome video. Question if you have two servos for the elevator . Would you use Y splitter cable
You can do. Having 2 servos allows you to do things like differential elevators (in case of adverse yaw during roles) or enabling flaperons
This is basic setup? up down left right? Im a beginner and had no idea what any of this means!
Also pls guide or already made video , how to make delta wing setting ??
VIDEO IDEA...... How to setup bloody safe mode on a TX16S LOL
RTFM for the receiver! Same as for ANY receiver. 🙄
holaa
Just got one an says I have multi in the internal RF but can't get it bind to any spektrum
I ordered the internal 4in1 just in case its wrong one. But another guy went through his an mine an said it should work but can't get it to bind
At 7.21min, you said the rudder was backwards, but it wasn't !
Even the experts make mistakes. That's the reason for a good pre-flight test! 😜😉
i thought channel 5 is reserved for arming or ?
How about showing spectrum am new and I have no clue how or what to do
16:22 "Disable Channel Map" Watched a few times, it's not on my new TX16S.
You guys say you want our queries but you dont answer queries so whats the point?
Why is it that everytime i set up a new model and select CH3 for throttle, then when I go into Channel monitor and move the mode two left side stick up, it says I am moving channel 2 .. I'm lost.
@@paulsimpson8578 Sounds like you both need to Google for a TH-cam video on how it's done properly. 😉
@@theoztreecrasher2647 I did - th-cam.com/video/x0SzOaB5W24/w-d-xo.html. I finally found a simple fix - checked box to 'disable channel mapping' in the model. Problem solved
@@paulsimpson8578 LOL. Mr Google fixes anything! 👍👍 As does RTFM! 😉
Make a switch reverse a reversible ESC on Radiomaster Tx16s with Edge tx Doesn't seem possible!
How about a video for Elevon setup
Plenty of videos on TH-cam. Just Google for a language/accent version to suit your ear.
But arent you supposed to follow Spektrums channel order (TAER) on the rx, eventhough the tx is setup as AETR? And then the module mixes for you? Also, you can push the bind button after the AR620 is powered up.
Привет ! Ребята, делайте ролику, субтитры.
why did you pick DSM 2 instead of DSM X (receiver does DSM X which is a much better protocol)?
Doesn't Spektrum want throttle on Ch1 for fail safe? The rudder was already working the correct direction before he reversed it.
Shhhhhhhh! Don't tell anybody about the rudder. I noticed that too 😂. Typically it was backwards on setup so sadly force of habit and apparently I overlooked that it was correct. BUT with the video at least people know how to reverse the reverse 😂😜
