M3P owner here. Bad: speed limits are right maybe 40% of the time on city streets and back roads, so until they fix that, FSD won't be a reality. Also, there is an occasional phantom brake that occurs. Last pet peeve is that the autopilot sometimes sways a little within lane. The good: the power is insane, OTA updates, built in 4 camera dashcam and sentry mode, autopilot and navigate on autopilot. When you drive the car after any amount of time, autopilot does not make you complacent no more than cruise control made me complacent before. It has a potential to be abused, but if you get it, use the fact the car is centering you in the lane to pay more attention to your surroundings more than you would be able to otherwise. I love my vehicle and right now, the only other car I'd consider is the Y. I love the 3 around curvy roads too. Edit: update is coming that will mostly fix the speed limit issue by recognizing speed limit signs. The older tech licensed Mobile Eye like so many major OEMs, but Tesla brought it in house. They must have engineered a method that does not infringe on their patent. I love the free over the air updates!
FSD is still designed only for highway driving (including exit ramps). Yes, I find it occasionally is overly aggressive moving into lanes just opening up (e.g., exit ramp lane). But in any traffic on the highway (we have heavy traffic all day in eastern MA) it’s TACC and lane-keeping are virtually flawless and a great workload reliever.
I’m planning on buying the model Y next year. Thank you for sharing the driving performance of the car. Also enjoyed watching the scenery which is beautiful.
Why not the Renault ZOE? 52 kWh Battery, 22 kWh AC charging / 50 DC and it is a european car, I drive a Renault ZOE now for two years an are very happy.
talk about a compulsive purchase.... I love tesla but buying any of their new models when they come out is a horrible decision because they normally 1-2 year to iron down the kinks and fit issues of the new model so I would wait if you really want one to last you the minimum 4 years that you need the tesla to last for without the interior falling apart

Thanks for showing imperfections of an early Model Y. This info will help people receiving a Model Y. They'll know specific things to check before they accept delivery. Having Tesla acknowledge these problems at delivery time should speed-up required corrective action.
Did you take it to the service center to fix those kinks? They have no problem with making adjustments during a service visit, or through the service "ranger" visiting you at home, if you spot something that you didn't catch during the initial delivery process. These all look easy for a ranger to adjust for you. I should say mention that you may have gotten a particularly problematic batch from what I've seen so far, people have been quite impressed with the quality of the early batches otherwise. I also wonder if something got damaged during shipping in the case of the rear hatch.

I'm interested to see how the Model Y handles our Winter here in Ohio. I'm in a suburb of Cleveland and am thinking about one for my next vehicle. Either the Model Y Performance or an Audi Q8. Thanks for the great review!
Nice drive and review. I am curious how well the new heat pump heater works in a cold climate, and if it switches back to resistive heat below a certain outside temperature that would cause the external heat exchanger to freeze up if they didn’t. Anyone know whether there is still a resistance cabin heater to back up the heat pump?
I'm curious about it as well. Of course we just left winter, but I'll ask the owner when it gets cold again. I don't have anymore information other than the Model Y gets a heat pump, which is something new that Model 3 doesn't have. This should greatly improve winter range.
I think that 3rd middle seat was just not caught once and forced up to cause the bend. If it was fixed before forced open probably would have been fine... I have no idea I am just speculating.
I just watched a video on a Nio SUV in China, and I gotta say, the Tesla cars look boring compared to Nio. Never been in a Tesla or a Nio but I was amazed by how awesome the Nio looked. Of course, I'm just going by a video, but it was definitely a surprise. I feel like I'm going back in time when I look at a Tesla video now. They look cheap, and yes, I know Nio is Luxury.
At 16:42 the autopilot is characterized as confused. That is INCORRECT. It is doing exactly as designed, staying perfectly centered within the lane it is in. Due to merging lanes, the lane suddenly becomes wider, and autopilot quickly adjusts to the new width. A good argument could be that the adjustment isn’t necessary, or is too abrupt. But it’s definitely not confused. Further, waiting for self driving to be available and perfected by Tesla to buy it is a rookie mistake. The price of the feature will increase drastically, for good reason. Imagine the convenience factor of owning a self driving car! So what you’re buying today is a vehicle with all of the hardware, waiting for a free software upgrade to make it work, at a lower price. That’s called a bargain. All because the software isn’t fully developed, and they don’t have a firm completion date.
I have one of the first 100 Ys off the line. I got the performance version with smaller wheels because you’re right, the ride quality is terrible with giant wheels. I haven’t noticed any build quality issues like you showed, knock on wood.
In the video you mentioned that you were 6'1" tall. How is the leg room? Does your right knee hit the center console? I'm 6"3" and have some hesitation buying this without sitting in one first. Thanks for a clear and helpful review.
I find there to be plenty of room. If you can find a Model 3 to sit in(which would probably be easier) they're very close to the same. Even if you make the argument that is $50k, I have a 2018 mazda cx5 that was $40k with all the extras and it has a much better quality which is why I say that tesla really needs to improve their interiors starting with the fit and killing all that crappy piano black that scratches by just looking at it
Did you have Autopilot enabled when you turned north onto Asbury Road from OH-52? The lines were well marked and the car does very well “driving itself” on mildly twisty roads. You feel like you’re on a coaster ride!
No, you can hear me deactivate it at @9:20. Once on Asbury I was doing the driving. It probably could have done it, but it would have been quite wonky. On windy roads it's a it like a drunk driver..
We're both 6'1". How is getting in the driver seat of the Y vs 3? I have a 3 and I dislike how much I have to be careful to not hit my head getting in. Thanks.
Same as getting in a model 3?? Not if you are a senior! The Y seats are 5” further of the ground than model 3 which is a big deal if you are older. Other than that great video.
@@EatSleepDrive I agree. I took a Model Y extended range for a test drive and using my 74 year old eyes it was difficult utilizing the rear view mirror due to the tint on the rear hatch.
It does not have a track mode, at least for right now. Knowing Tesla, I wouldn't be surprised if they push it at some point via update though. But I agree with you, a bit silly on the Model Y at least in my opinion.
What happens when you plug in your Model Y to charge? On a NEMA 14-50, mine whines really loud from under the frunk, and only charges at 4-5m/h for about 15 minutes, and then it finally starts charging at 30m/h. But my Model 3 charges at 40m/h immediately, and makes no sound at all. I'm just curious if it's an issue on mine only, or if it's specific to the Y because of the heat pump.
I heard a whine similar to what you're describing when I was at the supercharger. I assumed it had to do with cooling the batteries though, because it was a warm day. I didn't notice a low initial charge rate, however I did enter the supercharger as a destination so I got a message on my way that the car was "conditioning the batteries" in preparation for the supercharger.
The noise is probably the heat pump. Sandy Munro mentioned in one of his videos that Tesla told him that they are going to enclose the heat pump with a soundproof cover. I don’t know if the cover can be retrofitted to already manufactured cars though
A CUV ? No it is an old fashioned family hatchback sedan. This would be a direct replacement for my 7 year old Skodia Octavia, will be interested to see pricing in the UK (for the RWD cheap version) as whilst I expect it to be more expensive than a similar spec ICE family hatchback sedan (if you can find one, they are nearly all ugly SUVs) early indications are that the pricing might be a lot closer than expected
It's honestly hard to say because it's so quite in general, and there is virtually no wind noise, the only thing you notice is the road noise. But I don't think it's more than any other vehicles, the only difference is, since the car is so quite, it's all you hear. It's not loud by and means but it's the only nvh you get in the cabin.
Can you please text Elan and ask him to make just the skateboard with a body. No glass roof, no computers, no nothing just the skateboard with a body it's got to be like a $10,000 price point.
For a car so expensive these "minor" negative things are HUGE negatives. If it cot 20-25K it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but now it can become one for sure.
cool car for sure , to me does not look like an SUV ... and with these wheels don't take it off road !! to me living in the mountains that's the whole point of the SUV more clearance and AWD . but yes still a luxury vehicle , it's time to make one MOST people can afford
What is the point of the model 3 now? I can’t imagine many people actually preferring the Model 3 over the Model Y, which has improved engineering and much more space and utility for only a modestly increased price.
Cheaper, better performance, better handling, better efficiency (although maybe not in winter due to not having heat pump), and may prefer the esthetics.

I would love to rent that Model Y performance, but not going to Cincinnati...
I’m saving up for one right now.........I should have enough in ten years! 😬😬😬
do not joke like that , set your mind straight, you could have it in two years. always positive.

Thanks a lot for the kind words, I’d really like to buy a Tesla Model Y in cash and I’ve got a good start already.
@@enigmathegrayman2953 I'll be curious to see how much these costs on the used marked in 2 years.
Can you take the front tire of your bike off and put it in vertically? What are the actual dimensions of the cargo space with the seats folded down?
We're both 6'1". How is getting in the driver seat of the Y vs 3? I have a 3 and I dislike how much I have to be careful to not hit my head getting in. Thanks.
Those wheels look sick 😋
Same as getting in a model 3?? Not if you are a senior! The Y seats are 5” further of the ground than model 3 which is a big deal if you are older. Other than that great video.
Very interesting video and perfectly to understand even for a non-native speaker.
Glad you liked it!
Great review.
Is it more quiet than the Model 3 under the same circumstances?
Just got mine ordered 😁
What did you think of the visibility out the rear windshield?
Not great to be honest. The model 3 has better rear visibility. The Y is quite narrow.
@@EatSleepDrive I agree. I took a Model Y extended range for a test drive and using my 74 year old eyes it was difficult utilizing the rear view mirror due to the tint on the rear hatch.
Is there a privacy cover for the back?
Not as standard.
Does it have a drip edge or does rain still drip into the car when the window is open?
you can get the performance model with standard wheels... those wheels are part of the extra cost "performance upgrade package"...
Performance Upgrade package is actually a zero cost option.
I am still working about the big glass roof. Will I get sun burnt during summertime?
No, built in UV and IR protection.
Does the Y Performance get track mode? Seems silly if it does, but just curious
It does not have a track mode, at least for right now. Knowing Tesla, I wouldn't be surprised if they push it at some point via update though. But I agree with you, a bit silly on the Model Y at least in my opinion.
good review
This would be a direct replacement for my 7 year old Skodia Octavia, will be interested to see pricing in the UK (for the RWD cheap version) as whilst I expect it to be more expensive than a similar spec ICE family hatchback sedan (if you can find one, they are nearly all ugly SUVs) early indications are that the pricing might be a lot closer than expected
nice review! Thank you
Great Review Thank You!
Thanks for watching!
For the older folks, is the entry into the Model Y noticeably easier than with the Model 3?
Ron Bonham the seat are 4 inches or so higher so it is as easy as any suv-cuv. You pretty much slide straight instead of down as you do in a model 3
Do you have to first unlock the drivers door before you can enter the rear door???
No. You do not :)
I tried it several times, using the app via the phone in my pocket. Sometimes it opens in the back sometimes it doesn't..
Being 6feet, do you hit your head on the column when you recline the rear sit?
Yes, in the fully reclined position.
@@EatSleepDrive In your opinion, how short would have to be to enjoy the the fully reclined rear sit and not hit your head?
Roadnoise Model Y vs Model 3?
Ziggi Mon Ok, thanks.
Sorry for the weird question, what is the brand of your shirt? Great car anyway 😍
It's a band tshirt. Arc & Stones. arcandstones.bandcamp.com/
Can you please text Elan and ask him to make just the skateboard with a body. No glass roof, no computers, no nothing just the skateboard with a body it's got to be like a $10,000 price point.
The boosted board of death!
Could you fit an Olympic Barbell
For a car so expensive these "minor" negative things are HUGE negatives. If it cot 20-25K it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but now it can become one for sure.
7:16 nice Freudian slip there
You can get the performance power without the wheels and spoiler.
beautiful car
I love the color.
17:17 - "When I let off the gas ...." Are you referring to fart mode? Haha!
I think it’s very good and space
cool car for sure , to me does not look like an SUV ... and with these wheels don't take it off road !! to me living in the mountains that's the whole point of the SUV more clearance and AWD . but yes still a luxury vehicle , it's time to make one MOST people can afford
What is the point of the model 3 now? I can’t imagine many people actually preferring the Model 3 over the Model Y, which has improved engineering and much more space and utility for only a modestly increased price.
Some folks prefer the slightly smaller form factor as well as track mode.
CMG30 true.
Too an extend I agree. I see them selling more of these than the 3 in the long run tbh.
Cheaper, better performance, better handling, better efficiency (although maybe not in winter due to not having heat pump), and may prefer the esthetics.
A lot of drivers want a smaller car. Not every one worldwide prefers a SUV. Honda and other manufacturers makes sedans and CUVs and both sell well.
how easy is it to load a bike onto a Model 3 with the rear seats folded down?
You have to take the wheel off - unless it's a small bike.
Come on Tesla!! Make these compatible with Apple Car Play/Android Auto!! Please!!!!
Nice my guy 🇮🇪
Would two big dogs fit in the hatch of the Y?
