7:47 I think you mixed that up? The tungsten stock isn't 3200K itself. In fact they are blue because they are made to balance / neutralize warm tungsten light (3200-3300K) So the 6500K light seems extra blue on a "blue" filmstock"
just discovered this channel. Really helpful these breakdowns from a professional perspective. Definitely will keep watching these. Keep it up, and good luck.
The cinematography looks really well crafted and lends itself to the story, I like how you're focused on staying in the kids perspective, only thing I'd say it that the grade let's it down, I know from experience that any modern 16mm stock bar Ektachrome has the latitude to capture highlights, but it seems as though the roll off is pretty harsh, I bet it doesn't look like that in the raw. There also seems to be a bunch of like weird grain structure and selection happening in the bike scene as though the HDR wheels in resolve where being overbaked. I'd love to watch the final film though if it's somewhere as the lighting and on set work looks brilliant!
Nice breakdown. But to most of the folks watching this vid: your first film shoot on 16mm will probably be a BOLEX 16H with a wind up motor and a cheap led light panel if you’re lucky.
@@chrisajtony The demo online are odd and strange, I own that setup and man… freaking love how smooth it is ! Favorite way to operate a cam. Find some place you can try it and put some good weight on the bottom plate of your rig.
This is such a great breakdown of how it was done, have you thought about filming on digital then dumping onto film then back in the computer to edit? They did that for DUNE which looks amazing !
The Arriflex 416 was released in 2006, near the tail end of motion picture cameras being produced. Probably was discontinued in 2011 with all the other cameras. I think I heard once the 416 can take 35mm frame lenses as well.
@@chrisajtony More recently Dream Scenario with Nick Cage was shot on a 416 Pro. I like that people still shot super 16 professionally. Props to you for the great work on this short.
Sadly won't ever really happen. 35mm stock is different now. There are hardly any cinemas doing film projection. Still lots of films shot on film, or converted to film prints, but that 70s look is long gone.
Most of the time I would set my shutter to 180, frame rate to whatever I wanted that value to be and then my iso was always rated between 3/4 to 1 stop below the films iso rating. For example most of the time shooting with 500T I’d put my meter to 250iso. Then I’d read my light values in T stops and dial in the intensity of light based on that
Great cinematography breakdown
Thanks homie!
super cool insights Chris! Thanks for sharing, even though I would never trust myself shooting film - great job!
Thank you my man! Give it a try sometime!!
Incredible work! The night scene was super beneficial to see broken down as I'm shooting a night scene on 16mm for the first time tonight!
Amazing man! Im glad it helped!
So much knowledge and raw behind the scenes in video is crazy🤯 thanks for another video🤍
Love you buddy
This is really well done Chris! Great job with ratios and lighting
Thank you!!

Yes same as digital just neutralizing

Thank you! I yet to try that! I wonder how much that process would cost!
nice to see others using a flowcine blackarm, good stuff :)
Thinking of getting one myself! Amazing tool
@@chrisajtony I'd say def worth it, just takes awhile to get return on investment

Yea SR3 and the 416 both have PL mounts so you can put almost any pl mount lens on their including 35mm glass. The cookes I used were for S35

Film rocks. Specially in this new dififatal era.
I’M NOT SHORT 3:10 lol great great camera work 👍👍👍

Awesome
Thank you!
We love you brother ❤❤❤
Love you guys!
Lovely, almost a film lesson to all.
I like the way movies used to look. I wouldn't mind a film comback.

Awsome work👍,how do you match your meter to film camera?

Nice 👍
Thanks ✌
Great
Thank you!
Film = cinéma 🎦
how you get money?
They never tell you lol
Most DPs are rich kids
Good on them but for the rest of us. We can only dream.
That is the question bro.
Ask a producer, not a DP 😂
Great video! And the film image is incredible.
Do you have the name of the film or the director's insta please?
Where can I watch the whole thing?
Where to watch?
Sugar king 🤴 approved.
Sugar king out 🫡
Awesome look! Hope we can collab one day! Best

Totally! Can't beat it!

❤️🔥
Howd you get the funding im curious. did you guys crowdfund?
I believe self funding
Film makes you think.
Exactly! Alot more then digital in some cases. It makes you appreciate the process of blocking, planning and all the other fun stuff!
What model camera and lens?
Arriflex 416 and Cooke s4
you have to hire a colorist bro
Totally agree, for the actually project it will have a colorist but for the TH-cam video I had to get it out quick 🤷🏻
