SIMPLE Lighting Setups for Movies - Cinematography Breakdown
Just enough booklights. Subscribed
😍🥹🙌😉
Best hair in the business
Hahaha thank you
I have a question about your light meter. Do you add +1.5EV when you measure lighting on Sony fx3? And how do you measure on lowlight!
Measuring on a light meter should translate the same to each camera. I think middle grey is abit different for each camera sensor so you need to test and adjust accordingly. What do you mean about low light? Using high sensitive iso? If your question is about metering with high sensitive iso levels then you just set your light meter to that iso and meter from there.
i thought the thumbnail looked familiar and then i popped up in the video lmaoo!!
Hahah ayyye 🙌🙌
great job bestie, good thumb nail and title, clicked on it without even realizing it was you
Hahahah YES!
Great video... tons of tips👌🏽
Thanks so much!! 🙏🏼
Great work! This is not easy to do!
Appreciate it! 🙌
Looks great man! Night exteriors are definitely tough, but I think method of having your fixtures close to the ground and a bounce up high is a great budget way to fake what a condor or cherry picker will get ya. Thanks for the explanation! I really love being able to hear the thought processes behind a DP, 'cause on set I rarely get to take the time to actually hear what they're thinking.
On set it’s “go go go” hahaha I know sometimes I wish I could give better explanations on set but tough when you’re under time constraints and got to get the day done!
Moonlight is the bane of my existence. Ive been trying to dial down that look kus i want to slowy fade away from that blue ish moonlight look and more towards that silverish look.
Shane Hurlbert does some great “silver moon” night exterior master classes! He plays around with tungsten lights gelled and rating his cameras to different temperatures! Worth checking out!
Not nearly enough booklights. Unsubscribed
Hahahah might just have to make a video about book lights
how are the tungsten lights warm when 500T is tungsten balance film stock? did you guys set it to a warmer like below 2700K? thanks!
Great question! I was using 250watt tungsten bulbs in each practical and we would dimmed those puppies down to like 20-30% and you get that 2700k warmth. Greg Fraser does this a lot especially in Batman. But we did emphasize that color in the grade to make it pop more
Thanks man appreciate your help
plus as long as you get the color contrast in camera you can go cooler or warmer in the grade doesn’t matter the whitebalance. The ratio is key
Might be the highest low budget video I’ve seen lol I get it though, all low budgets are not the same
Fun days when the 2 4ks rigged with a frame on a picker comes out
Oh man honestly such a game changer! I really like what they did in the last of us. They rigged their condors with 40x40 frames with titan tubes. 1. Gave a beautiful soft moonlight 2. It was also safer because the wind could pass through each fixture. Traditionally using a huge soft box would be a kite in the wind
what kelvin do you guys have for key light? and everything
Scene one was 3200k! White void was a mixture of 5600k and 3200k
great job!
Thank you!
Play it in a cinema
🙌
Really cool video bro love it nice to hear you explain everything love it❤ keep going
Thank you so much 🙌🥹
seriously love your videos bro so great to get insight like this
Man thank you! These type of comments inspire me to keep making these videos 🙌🙏🏼
Love the video. Also loved how you use budget lighting with other lighting as well. I have a couple of questions. 1. How much did the robot arm cost to rent? 2. Who built your set, and if you did can you give us a video of how you did it? 3. How much was your lighting package? Seems like you still had a lot of lights for these setups, and understandably so seeing how much detail your were capturing.
Thank you! This is super helpful! Maybe ill make a video with the production designer where we can run down the set build! Or somehow incorporate more set builds in future videos! In terms of cost, the director and I had connections to the studio who owned the robot and lighting equipment. I believe there was no rental cost due to it being a lower budget music video. But this is such an important thing that I realized while I am building my career is creating relationships with the studios and equipment rental houses because they will most likely help you out on your journey!
where is the music video?

@chrisajtony it would be better if you attach the link of the work for the futuren Anyways, the video is amazing.

The best Swifty ever spotted in the wild!
Hahahaha
Tungsten Stock, I never hear anybody say those two words in 2024
WOW!!! You guys are amazing!!! I'm very impressed!!!
What’s the app you used for framing?
Where to watch?
Film rocks. Specially in this new dififatal era.
Pleasure working with you!
Nice breakdown. But to most of the folks watching this vid: your first film shoot on 16mm will probably be a BOLEX 16H with a wind up motor and a cheap led light panel if you’re lucky.
The Arriflex 416 was released in 2006, near the tail end of motion picture cameras being produced. Probably was discontinued in 2011 with all the other cameras. I think I heard once the 416 can take 35mm frame lenses as well.
Yea SR3 and the 416 both have PL mounts so you can put almost any pl mount lens on their including 35mm glass. The cookes I used were for S35
@@chrisajtony More recently Dream Scenario with Nick Cage was shot on a 416 Pro. I like that people still shot super 16 professionally. Props to you for the great work on this short.
nice to see others using a flowcine blackarm, good stuff :)
Thinking of getting one myself! Amazing tool
@@chrisajtony I'd say def worth it, just takes awhile to get return on investment
bro i need the name of this song and want to see the final video !!
Hey Chris, big fan of your DP work. What was the primary focal length you guys used for this project? Also what lenses?
really cool video !
Would be cool to discuss the budget of this film and how the funds were raised. Where can we see the finished film?
