My neighbour suggested l had a Bakers cyst. I have to say l think she is right, swelling at side of knee, pain in back and side on opposite side of knee and stiffness in lower Centre of knee, occasional secondary swelling top of knee. It comes and goes but my goodness does that pain down the inner side/ back of knee hurt like you can’t believe. I can’t currently get out to a doctor because of the pain. Thank you for caring for us mature people. Bless you from Brisbane.

Good stuff. I am 65 and have had several incidences of swollen knee. Happened a few days ago. Typically swells up after my run where I may have gone down a steep hill or non level ground. Seems to be the trigger for me. I complete my run with no problem and then a hour or so later I get a swelling. After a day or so the swelling reaches a peak and I am immobile. Typically weakness, sharp pains etc. After 3 -4 days of painkillers, ice and strapping I can walk slowly but still in mild pain. In the past it has taken many many weeks before getting active again. I am trying to do gentle leg strengthening exercise, but I definitely seem to have a weakness that affects my stability on rough ground. I never got this when younger but getting older I am going from one injury to another.

I find walking briskly and up and down hills is much better on the joints than running on hard surfaces. You still have the same benefits but none of the pain.
It’s not realistic to expect your 60’s self to do the same thing as you did in your 20’s.

DMSO roll-on works for my neighbor's knee . Doesn't get hot like bengay but can itch for 20 minutes and then the pain is greatly reduced . eBay two roll-ons are $19 free shipping . Works for a lady's shoulder but two diabetic persons experienced increased swelling and no pain relief . Very similar to MSM powder but has one more oxygen molecule in DMSO .

Thank you for your info. I am an old girl(79) and both my knees give a little sign of something. My right knee got injured 25 years ago and some years after that it triggered arthritis, so its often swollen at the left side. My left knee has a swelling on top of the ligament. (We call it here (netherlands) a boys knee..) I treat both knees with heat and cold, rest , higher up etc, at least lately. But I also sit a lot on my knees. Gardening and working on the floor, because I am an artist and like working on the floor instead of a table). I am more careful with that now, because I noticed my knees don’t like it to much anymore. Also, since a couple of years Squads are hard to do. Weak knees, weak muscles. I believe it is possible to improve my legs and knees. Could you give me some advise?
Thank you too for the 12 walking tips. Great help for my legs, hips, ankles and knees even shoulders and neck. Greetings fro Holland, Iris

This video really gave me clarity as to what may be the issue . Everything that was said really lines up with my issue. Feeling very confident arthritis is not my issue twisted my knee and had discomfort below knee (started with a twist in my left meniscus and as I continued to go about my day felt it in my right meniscus when pivoting ) that caused swelling to my upper knee a day or two later. Still have a little swelling lower of the knee cap on both side but not as much as above my knee cap . Can not put weight on my left knee and feel like knee if going to give out while attempting to limp about the house , very stiff with limited movement can not fully extend and can’t close my knee past 90 degree. Bring on the ice!

Yeah I like what you said because my orthopedist said very little after 2 weeks. Don't know if chronic or injury? I never had pain and swelling this bad. I do ice still and massage the knee and mostly compress the knee with a wrap. I've heard some activity is actually healthy as long as non weight bearing. Before the problem I used to run bike, run up steps and now l am reduced to being sedentary and that in time will have deleterious effect to my heart and lungs and muscles... What can be done? Imaging showed no abnormality I might add.

I ended up carrying a very heavy dog house lifted it onto truck bed and didn't have proper help taking it off I carried the one side and back side myself and put it on the floor. 2 days later now almost 4 days with this my knees hurt badly and they have a red color on the knee the one was purpleish color but both are now red. I tried walking it off Today went for a long walk and came back and now there really bad . You think maybe I hurt a muscle inside the knee ? And they are cracking a little bit now to.

Hmph well I went to my GP about a swollen and stiff knee over a month ago, he just put me on nsaids and said come back if it doesn't go down after a few weeks. It had already been swollen for a month by then. It was me who suggested perhaps it could be reactive arthritis after a possible covid infection, he said maybe but no tests were done. I don't know whether to just wait it out or try going back. It was both sudden, but not injury related... Maybe there's another bucket?

Hi, I'm a 52 yr old female who gave up competitive tennis when I had a lateral meniscus tear diagnosed over a year ago. In that time, I've had a steroid injection, a prp injection and I've worked hard to build my quads, glutes and hips in order to take the strain off my knee. I'm still keen to avoid surgery, but still in pain. I'm starting to lose faith! Do you think additional prp would be useful? Also, would you be able to do a video of a variety of rehab exercises for meniscus recovery? Your videos are inspirational and I need some inspiration right now! Thank you!

Although I can't play tennis atm, I'm off to Malaga to watch the Davis Cup finals at the weekend, so it'snot all bad!! ! Good luck getting sorted and definitely chat about prp with your doctor.

Was advised knee replacement but considering my age I'm reluctant. I'm taking only supplements and hoping I will be well.

Sorry to hear that. The only advice I can give is to get checked out by a healthcare professional in person.

I have an acute injury it's been 8 weeks since I banged my knee I have no pain until I kneel down because that's where the swelling is. Will the swelling ever leave by its self? I thought it would have healed by now with it being 8 weeks later

It would be worth getting checked out for some individual advice for this kind of problem. Hope that helps!

Excellent TH-cam I'm 60 I'm having major problems with my knee I know there's torn cartilage I've had two scopes, and I feel like I'm at the point that I need a third but I'm physically not up to having a surgery right now I'm so rundown from trauma PTSD insomnia it's a horror story violent attack of the doctors in New York City and not this year but 10 years ago anyway it's really knocked me out being sick w/ Covid and now this.
The arthritic pain is not a cute enough for a knee replacement and again I'm not up for surgery let alone a scope but I have my leg elevated I got on a bicycle station or just to see if I can move it and I can I can flex and extend my toes. I've been icing but I haven't been able to get the swelling down enough yet trying to get more focused and rest

What about a swollen knee 3 years after a knee replacement standing on it is the biggest cause it swells way more than before the replacement and it gets stiff. Yoga helps but if I'm on my feet an hour or two it will swell. Very huge. Doctors have nothing for me
