      Go Army!
      I got the chance to sit down and play with these guys when I was in High School. Awesome people. What blew me away was the fact that none of them had any music on their stands. They just had ... stuff on there. Like random bits of music they pretended to look at. It was all in their heads. The bass trombone player calmly noticed that I didn't have any idea what the music was, and produced a part for me from his bag. No judgement, subtle hints. Section leader asked for my pencil and marked a few dymanics, and some notes on it. Played the phrases that way ever since. Blew my mind to sit in with them at that age.
      And ya. That wasn't a cheap tuba either! Send it! Shot Out!

      As a trombonist, it ain’t that hard once you already got it on tenor trombone. Sop. Trombone is just played like tenor but an octave higher and you might need a little practice with alto trombone, but yea it ain’t that hard. I’m not saying that FOTB isn’t hard because it definitely is, just saying that it’s not hard to do it on the other two if you already have it on one of them.

      Used to run with Tubas, even backwards for some formations. It gets easier if you practice/carry a tuba around frequently, you eventually get used to balancing/managing the weight. She's probably marched around with that tuba more than most would ever being in a military band I would think. Never did it in heels though, that's gotta complicate things a bit for sure.

      I can't believe I found this 5 years later. Being a Junior in Marching Band, I can re assure everyone watching this that just learning 10 songs in a month, as hard as it seems, will/is a lot easier than trying to play Flight of the Bumblebee on the trombone. We get hyped just by playing Seven nation army at football games, let alone if someone would ever learn this. Great job to that Trombonist, and everyone in the band, on behalf of the Logan Marching Chieftains.

      Actually you can practice too much on brass instruments. You'll get an "embouchure breakdown" past, say, 4 hours per day, at least in my case. It happened to Miles Davis too. Symptoms are when it takes you longer and longer to warm up. They also say too many lip slurs can lead to this condition. In my case it was taking me about 1 hour just to warm up and break down my lips to where I could play. My teacher was clueless as to why I was getting worse and worse. My lips had as much buzz as a stiff baseball mitt.

    Well, you've been asking for #videos , so here's a fantastic one from the Concert Band! Sgt. First Class Carmen Russo performs variations on the classic "Flight of the Bumblebee" on *three* different #trombones .
    This performance was recorded at Linganore High School in Frederick, Md. on May 29, 2013.
    We'd love to hear what you think! Please leave your comments below.

    This is also played quite well on the tuba by Chuck Daellenbach of the Canadian Brass. I talked to him one evening after a performance and asked how he could defy physics so easily. He said, "it's a trick".

    Although I never of my life would try to perform The Flight of the Bumble Bee with any kind of copper instrument... this fun to watch and... also very skillfull. Props to the sarge. Very well done, with panache and wit.

    there are two things that don't seem right:
    1) the accuracy of the slides
    2) the size of that trombone

    • @pabG14567
      @pabG14567 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1). It's possible,
      2). Which trombone ? Tenor, or alto ( or piccolo trombone ) ? I forget the looks from it sometimes

    • @PolybrowTheVods
      @PolybrowTheVods 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RapTor _ the smallest one he used. My friend also watched this and told me it's so small it has less slide positions to use than a normal trombone :P

      Indeed. Piccolo trombones have ~5 1/2 positions.

    Just amazing! As a former trumpet player, I salute you, Sir. And to top it all off, he was still able to play after putting on chapstick, which I was never able to do. 😲
    This makes me seriously want to pull out my old trumpet and play again. I still have it; I bet I remember more than I think I do . . . 🤔
    Also, kudos to the band for the theatrics and humor involved. 👏👏👏
