Here I am watching 2 black rappers listening to an old white dude singing a ballad and not only showing the song respect but relating to it. Your Podcast always reminds me that every human on this planet has more in common than the shallow, baseless indoctrinations that seperate us. Thanks for your work boys, you remind us all that love & respect are the ties that bind us all. Music is indeed a universal language. Cheers from an old Aussie.
Just proves you will never know someone unless you take the time to get to know them. Too often we're quick to label people by how they look, who they hang out with, their taste in music, etc. There's much more to people than what we see on the surface.❤
When I was about 22yo (which was many years ago now), I bought a pair of red Kenny Roger cowboy boots. I loved those boots. I rode my horse in’em, I went to bars in’em, they were the best boots I ever owned. My dog chewed ‘em up and I cried like a baby. I had 3 pairs of shoes and those were one of ‘em. Never did get another pair ‘cause by the time I could afford them, they didn’t make’em anymore. 😢 I think of those boots and how much I loved that dang shepherd every time I hear Kenny Rogers. ❤
A movie was made out this song in 1981 and Kenny Rogers starred in it! They also made a movie from Kenny’s song The Gambler! He was a great storyteller!❤❤
The messages in our songs as we heard them growing up. Kenny kept our attention even if one did not like country music. Kenny was different. The " cowardly lion" was " yellow" too.
Many of us are not weak. We are peaceful. You can not be peaceful if you are not capable of violence. If you are not capable of violence, you're harmless.
I am a girl when I was out of school in winter when already was dark a drunk tried to you know what with me when I was going home. My dad taught me self defense and I could resist akd shout so he couldnt abuse my dad is the peaceful man on Earth but he still teach me self respect and how should defend from nasty people. "Never start trouble but if someone tries let you be the last standing"
@@mara_jade021 I told both my daughters to never allow people to walk on them or harm them and never be scared to fight if need be. I also told them that if I ever caught them starting shit or bullying others they would regret it VERY much. Both of them are adults with their own children now and just the other day my oldest daughter told her oldest son 6 yrs old the same thing I had told her and her sister. I feel like 98% of the time violence is not the answer and I will go out of my way to try for peace and have had many people mistake it for weakness or that I was timid and they had to find out the hard way. I never feel good taking that option but sometimes there is some dumbass that just has to push the buttons.
Kenny's first big band was The First Edition. It was rock oriented .They charted a song with psychedelic overtones called I Just Dropped in to See What Condition My Condition Was In..
Kenny Rogers started as a rock singer with his band The First Edition (one of their hits was "Just Dropped In". They had a TV show called "Rollin' on the River" back in the early 1970s (it was filmed in Toronto, so I don't know if it ever played in the U.S.). He had a string of hits after going solo including "Ruben James" &"Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town". He has a collaboration with Home Free of "Children Go Where I Send Thee" that's terrific. Rest in peace Kenny Rogers.
Kenny Rogers was an icon. Another one gone too soon. Love the fact that you and Krizz can listen and appreciate this kind of music. Love your reactions!
KrizzKalico, your story about one of last conversations with your daddy reminded me so much of a song from an album released in the 90s that was a collab of R&B and country artists. It was called Rhythm, Country & Blues. The song was called Patches sang by B B King and George Jones. The entire album was magic, but I especially loved that song. Based off of your personal story I think you would find the song touching.
That's the thing, people confuse incompetence with goodness these days. Alot of people out there think a good man is incapable of violence. When if you are in capable of violence, there is no virtue in the non violence. The virtue only applies. Where one has the ability to propagate violence, yet chooses another avenue. Saving violence for those times where it is an inescapable necessity. Kenny knew that, and shared it in a way to show a learning story
Most country artists are GREAT story tellers!! Kenny Rogers was one of the best story tellers!!! And there are so many GREAT story tellers in the country world. I grew up listening to country. My very first concert was Loretta Lynn when I was still in grade school. I'm in my 50's now, so that's giving away my age. LOL I really hope you enjoy your journey listening to country artists :D
Oh heck yeah! I'd forgotten that one, yes, yes, yes, by all means do that one! I love Ruby Don't Take your Love to Town too. I think they were on the same 8 track, lol. 🙃🙃
You two have such great chemistry. I love seeing your reactions together. Y'all should react to "Islands in the stream". By Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I bet Krizz will know the rap song that sampled "Islands in the stream".
I was 8-12 years old when I was introduced to Kenny. My parents and their friends played him a lot. He has a special place in my heart, and I'm not a typical country fan. I like jazz, rap, and well, storytelling. Doesn't matter the genre, if the story is good. Johnny Cash was always a good storyteller. Eminem, Taylor Swift...Patsy Cline...
Two of my favorites songs from him are Lady you should have it live with him and Lionel Ritchie it also has the story how it came to be intresting story and also my All time favourite is Islands in the Stream ft Dolly Parton ( Icon Queen of Country )
Great show. Thank you for introducing your guest to us. Our home is a mishmash of music, everything from classical, rap, pop, and country. I’ve always leaned towards country because I like the stories, but good music is good music regardless of the genre.
Sometimes you do have to stand up, or you're gonna keep letting them hold you down. I'm all "peace, love, and rock n roll" too .... But when enough is enough......
Ohhh myyy goodness!!!! I was just singing this song the other day. Used to listen to this album on the record player. I hadn't thought of it in so long. I can't believe you're reacting to it now!!!
“You can’t mistake, kindness for weakness“… Facts! And by the way, with that comment, I can’t help but think of Ren and his current situation… can’t wait for Thursday #KujoBeatDown
Loved you guys reaction! Y'all got mad chemistry & promoting his channel is considerate! BTW I love Krizz' channel as well! You're right 'Yellow' or 'Yellow belly' means Coward, I've never heard the dog story. Keep them coming! Love & peace ❤✌🏼
"Yellow belly" originally referred to the Yellow bellied Sapsucker bird, which has a yellow stomach and it came to be a synonym for coward. There are other references, as well from poor English people living in the swamp/marshlands where the eels with yellow bellies live. There's more examples but they all equate yellow with cowardice.
My true favorite song of Kenny's. I probably played this song on the record my parents had over hundred times. I am 51 so I was listening to Kenny when I was like 8 yrs old. Also my aunt had Charlie Daniels Devil Went Down to Georgia on record and played that over & over too. Miss the days of records.
Great reactions, Black Pegasus and Platinum Rapper, Chris Calico! Thanks Black Pegasus for the yellow bellied phrase meaning! If you love lyrics, this stuff is so important!❤

Lucille is another great song by Kenny Rogers and he did some great music with Dolly Parton ( Islands in the Stream), who also has some great song like Jolene.
Kenny Rogers, great story telling in all his songs. Nearly every Kenny Rogers songs could easily be transformed into a movie. Another one of his many many hits is Lucille, gotta check that one out.

Kenny is a really interesting artist. He started as a upright bass player in jazz and "beatnik" bands, then went into more psychedelic rock, and rock/country and really became the first real modern crossover artist like Garth Brooks. Kenny Rogers was the first album I owned when I was 7 years old lol. I love Kenny Rogers, this is my favorite Kenny Rogers song. Kenny Rogers is a country legend, he was the inspiration for a lot of country singers that you hear today.
Tommy’s dad killed a man in a fight which is why he ended up in prison. He didn’t want his son to end up like him. One of the Gatlin brothers wanted Becky for his girl but she said no. That’s why they attacked her right before she married Tommy,to get back at both of them. Uncle Matthew, played by Kenny, helped Tommy in that brawl. Tommy and Becky got married the he went off to WWII.
I only know one Colt Ford song and that was with John Anderson doing a remix of " Swingin'. Which is one of my favorite country songs. I love their version. Old school country, meets young country.
I really appreciate the “everything is up to you” story. Looks and sounds to me as if you did a good job and made great choices. You are a man of substance, that much I know. 👏👏👏

Always get a chill at the line....Tommy stopped and locked the door
Now you’s can’t leave
A good follow up is The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.
Exactly
Same.
It's the quiet ones that u should truly be afraid of
Kenny Rogers was such a great storyteller with his songs, and this one, Coward of the County, is one of my favourites.
A movie was made out this song in 1981 and Kenny Rogers starred in it! They also made a movie from Kenny’s song The Gambler! He was a great storyteller!❤❤
Both are available on the Roku channel, they are excellent movies.
The line "Tommy stopped and locked the door" always gives me goosebumps.
When that door was locked you knew all hell was going to break loose.
Kenny Roger's song " I am the Greatest". It's a later song of his about a little boy that wants to be a baseball player. It's quite the story!! ❤❤❤
That is one of my favorites by him as well - such a positive message! ❤
My fav
I was going to mention this
You MUST reply to the Greatest
Love that one!
I have ALWAYS liked Kenny Rogers voice and he also had every women's eyes on him.
