A back story to this...after this performance he walked off stage and Ricky Skaggs said it was a great performance and Craig told him he was glad he liked it because he would never be able to sing that song live again. Ricky told him he had to sing it...that people needed to hear it...and he took that to heart and has performed it live ever since.

I can't believe I have never heard this song until today.
I lost my 19 year old son to fentanyl 18 months ago.
Then I lost my mind and nearly everything else since.
No one seemed to understand why I seemed to be self-destructing.
Now, thanks to Craig Morgan, I know that the loss of a child can not be understood by any that hasn't gone through it.
God bless Mr Morgan for the courage to put this out.
I finally have hope to move forward.

Britt. A little about Craig. He served in the US Army for 17 years. I believe the last 7 or 8 as a combat medic. When he got out he did a number of different jobs to support his family, and finally got to a place where he felt his music could be what he did full time. He has done very well for himself in that regard. As to the kind of guy he is, one day he was driving home and happened upon a house fire. The Fire Dept. hadn't gotten there yet and he stopped to see if he could help. He was told there were people inside still, and he went in and carried out 2 (My memory is that they were kids, but not certain). Then when the FD arrived he pulled a hoseline and helped put out the fire. He and his family own a lake house. Kind of a getaway place. Well his son, who was 19 at the time, had gone to the lake with a couple friends for a weekend. The day they were due to drive back to town they decided to spend a little time tubing before they left. Something happened during the tubing and his son drowned. He wrote the song because that is how songwriters deal with their feelings. After his performance on the Opry, he swore he could never do it again. With encouragement from Ricky Skaggs and Craig's buddy Blake Shelton he continued to perform it. You really should watch the video even if you don't react to it. For more of Craig's music you should try "That's what I love about Sunday" and also "This ain't nothing". Do yourself a favor Britt. Watch the videos. Peace right back at you.

I’ve watched a lot of people that review all types of songs. You fine lady really get & understand peoples voices into happiness and joy or story telling and you always give great words to describe and you felt this. I’m maybe not a fan of country but this got me. Thank you for putting this on cause I would have never heard or watched. As a parent my kids will always be my kids and thank the lord I still have them and love.

My husband died when he was 46. I was 41 and our sons 18 and 9. Nine years later my oldest son died, so our family was half of what it used to be. You absentmindedly set the table for all sometimes, or buy their favorite snacks while grocery shopping. Even after all this time one gets transported back to relive the loss. Not every day, but during a song like this, or randomly. My son wrote beautiful lyrics when he was about 35 or so, about his experience as a 9 and 18 yr old… being told.

Beautifully-expressed reaction Britt. In fact, the most powerfully honest reaction I've seen. Music has such power to evoke any and all human emotion, and never any more so than when the artist is telling their own story., and it's a sad one. I'm very impressed that, without knowing in advance that this man was doing just that, you were able to feel the rawness and confidently assert that we're listening to a true first person story. Btw, tears are a beautiful reaction when they're caused by heartfelt emotion. Love your work. x

I lost my brother in 1990. He was 20 at that time. I saw the pain my parents went through. My pops would suffer dementia later on in life, but up until the end, when he saw one of us kids, "Are you ok?". My dad was always close to us, but I think after Jeff was killed, this protection went even deeper. Even as dementia was claiming his mind, the one thing it held on to was his kids being ok. In the song, it shows the mom even more distraught, same happened to my mom who is 90, tough old farm girl still drives, tends her flower beds. Talks to us kids daily. She had a support group at church and us to help her through it, but, until this day 32 years later he has a hard time looking at Jeff's picture. Dad was the king of the castle, but mom rules it . This song brings me back to the day my brother was killed in that car accident on Sept 02, 1990. Beautiful song.

Jennifer,I am so incredibly sorry for your loss.My brother was hit by a car and killed when he was 13.My father has been so angry with God,and it's been 50 years ago.As a mom I can't imagine your pain.We want God to fix it.The thing is,though, that He created us with free will. That's why it's so hard to understand somebody else's choices,ugh...God loves you so much, and I pray that you can lean in on Him and get gradual healing.Like this song says,I won't completely heal till I go home.

Im bawling my eyes out, ugly crying watching your reaction. Just watched your other reaction where you shared about your sister passing. I lost my younger brother when he was 20 and I was 22 in a motorcycle accident. Worst thing that ever happened in my life and even though I'm 33 now it feels like it wasn't that long ago. This song makes me think of my brother and every time I listen to it I grieve along with Craig. This is probably the most powerful, emotional, real, grieving a loved one songs out there. Other songs that remind me of my brother are "Say Something" A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera, "I Drive Your Truck" Lee Brice, "Who You'd Be Today" Kenny Chesney, and "See You There" Joey Feek of Joey + Rory, very sad story behind that song. Joey is singing the song about the loss of her brother (same name as my brother, Justin) in a car accident in 1994 but then later she too passed away in 2016 from a battle with cervical cancer.

My nephew had to hear the news that he lost his only child when he woke up in recovery. Please keep her parents in your prayers. On a good note, she has sent messages from heaven with my parents in the dream and she is riding her favorite horse bareback. Her ashes will be buried next to her favorite horse.

Whew Britt..this one hits so deep. My son and I lost his mom when he was 3. I grieved, he grieved, my family grieved, but nobody grieved as hard and as long as her mother. The fact that Craig can grt through this song in this performance just shows his son was right there with him holding him up. Also Im sorry to hear about your sibling. I hope your family found peace eventually.

Craig lives in the town I work in and we almost ran into each other walking around the same lift the other day. I saw his tattoo on his arm, asked him if he was Craig Morgan, he smiled and said "yes I am" and we shook hands and carried on. His son died in the county I live in while out on the Tennessee River. I was told the vest he was wearing was not suitable for the water he was in and it didn't really offer any help towards keeping him above water.

Need to listen to "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog. It's a collaboration between Chris Cornell (lead singer of Sound Garden & Audio Slave) & Eddie Vedder (lead singer of Pearl Jam). The album was a tribute album by Chris Cornell for his roommate Andrew Wood (lead singer of Mother Love Bone) , who passed away at the age of 24. Eddie became the new lead singer, and Pearl Jam was born. Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder became legends! Eddie is the only one still living from the Seattle Grunge Sound.

Who wrote the song The Father My Son and the Holy Ghost?
Craig Morgan - Morgan is the sole writer and producer of "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost." Of the song, he says in a press release, "As difficult as this song was to write and as difficult as it is to sing, it gives me strength in my faith in God. His 19-year-old son was tragically killed in a water accident. Morgan and his wife Karen are parents to four children, their son Jerry was the second oldest out of the bunch. The teenager was tubing with friends at Kentucky Lake in 2016 when he lost his life.

My wife and I lost a child, and I could feel his pain. The Holy Ghost said to me, ... The God that created the world is big enough. When you're young, you feel like there will be an endless supply of tomorrows. You become strong, vital. The people around you, have respect for you, some may even have a healthy fear. You love with a ferocity that enables those around you. They feel safe to become who they want to be, you enjoy seeing them spread their wings to fly. You seek out the weak, so that you can be strong for them. You succeed. Then one day, you feel your grip loosen. This is a new feeling, having to step it up to gain purchase. Then you find that you no longer are able to keep up sometimes. You aren't the vital man you once were. You reach out to grasp the hands of those around you, hoping they will pull you along. One by one those hands pull back. You're hurt, and to be honest, angry. You lash out when bitterness changes you, and more hands, pull back. At some point you realize that life is a fleeting thing, and you can no longer keep pace. As it continues onward, relentlessly, you resign yourself to its passing. For each and every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Newtonian law, that you thought only affected the physical world. But you were born in light, loved ones all around. You die in the dark, and you will never feel so alone. God wove you in the womb, and went ahead of you to make a place for you. You realize that you have but to step off this ride, and you are there, in His loving embrace. His loving arms spread wide to welcome and envelope you. Where he was a blur, and the world was all you could see, He comes into focus and everything you thought was important... streams through your fingers like grains of sand. The trick is to just let the sand go. Letting it go is so much easier than previously thought. Those people you were so afraid to lose? In the end, mean nothing, if you lose yourself trying to please them. For what shall it profit a man, to gain the whole world, but lose his soul? Mark 8:36
Miss Britt, I'm terminally ill and don't get out much, so my interactions with outside world, comes from reactions. I love you sincerity, open -mindedness, and if honest you are easy on the eyes. Keep doing you, young lady.

In 2016, Craig Morgan's son Jerry, was killed in a tubing accident at the age of 19. I have three kids. Well, my wife and I have two daughters, and our oldest had a baby at 18 and was too young to raise her, so her mother and I took the role as parents for our granddaughter. Our granddaughter knows we are her grandparents, and she knows, and loves her mama, but we are raising her, so we have three girls. I cannot imagine losing one of my kids. This man is amazingly strong to get back up there and sing, even to go on living. I worry every day about our girls, and I pray each and every night for them. I put all of my faith in God to watch over them. We live in such an evil world, and until Jesus reigns as King, God can only do so much to protect us from ourselves. This world is evil, painful, and dark, this is not God's world, nor is it the way he intended for us to live. May God bless you all, and keep on praying, and keep faith in God, and please keep loving each other with all of your hearts, and then some.
