Hey Matt, glad you liked the car. I've had my EV6 GT since July and I'm still blown away by the performance and agility of the car every time I drive it. I can't recommend it enough as long as you can live with its few shortcomings, one of which being the overall range. Matt! Your reviews are part of the reason I’ve bought my last few cars (Fiesta ST on E30, Mach E) so I’m stoked that I am finally validated for buying my EV6 GT a month ago lol. I love this car! I thought I was a diehard manual transmission guy but as a daily I’ll choose the Kia over anything else in the garage these days. My wife’s Model 3 is fine but I dare the Tesla stans to drive this and say it’s not better in almost every way.
(Fanboy side note, as a musician I can play on the biggest stages in the world without getting nervous, but I couldn’t think of anything to talk to you about in the Jackson Market line a couple months ago!)

Thanks for letting us join for your canyon run in the wet! I got rid of a Mach-E GT Performance for my EV6 GT about 6 months ago, and haven't regreted it at all. My wife doesn't drive my car, so the manual seats aren't an issue for me. One minor (hard-to-discover) feature: if you long-press the HVAC panel toggle for 5 seconds, you'll get a hidden option to decide whether you want the shared panel to default when not in use to last mode, HVAC mode, or infotainment mode. Solves the main issue with that. Finally, when summer was over, I replaced the cruddy Goodyears with Pilot Sport 4 All Seasons. I've been much happier with them.

Loving this! So happy to hear such great praise for these, and reading the comments loads of people agree and I see these all the time in Sweden!
I was a big fan of the first gen KIA Niro EV, was the champion for years until recently, only perhaps beaten by Tesla but just barely and I'd have a KIA over a Tesla any day.
Top of the range Plaid vs a KIA Soul EV, I'd have the soul. I wish I had more hands on experience. I got to have a look in a Niro some years ago but never been in one on the roads... But lots of people around has had different KIA's and the recent models, say 2015 and onwards, or 17 and onwards seem so good, before that the dynamics on some of them, damping could be very poor in what little experience I've had.

  • @davidk608
    @davidk608 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Great content as always, Matt. I look forward to your take on a GT line AWD. I’m 4k miles into my EV6 Limited Edition (comparable to a GT-Line AWD), and it might well be the best all around daily I’ve ever owned. In Eco mode, it’s silky smooth and a joy to drive. Sport mode gives it an edgier personality with excellent acceleration (much quicker than my E46 M3). Suspension tuning is really good even without the adjustable dampers, and the steering is very responsive, I’m averaging 3.5 mi/kWh since new with over half of my mileage at freeway speeds (70+) where EVs aren’t as efficient, and the 800v architecture makes fast charging a breeze on road trips. Seats are comfortable, stereo is very good, and unlike the Model 3/Y and Mach-E, the interior feels like a $60k car and not a $35k car. I really like the button panel below the MMI…it means not having to dig through the main screen to adjust the climate control and change basic audio settings. Of course, no car is perfect. At 6’0”, the corners of the dash are slightly cut off by the steering wheel, so I tend to use the HUD. I’m puzzled as to why the remotes aren’t keyed to a specific driver seat/mirror setting. And the seat heating/ventilation buttons at the leading edge of the center console are easy to hit accidentally with the heel of your hand when operating the main screen if you’re not careful. But these are nits. It’s vastly better than any EV anywhere near its price point, and it’s keeping me very entertained while I wait for my Integra Type S to show up someday. Keep up the great work!

I am surprised at Matt’s low efficiency in the GT. I have one and in my first 2000+ miles I’m averaging 3.4 miles/ kWh. I drive mostly in Normal mode with enough GT blasts to keep me happy. If I drive conservatively, I can get nearly 300 miles of range. I do live in the SF Bay Area where the weather is mild so that helps. I was OK with the EPA rating of 206 miles, so the range I’m getting has been a very nice surprise. I had a BMW i4 M50 on order but it was taking forever and after one test drive in the Kia, I was sold. I actually like it more than the BMW, and I’m a BMW guy who has owned them for years. Since my wife doesn’t drive the car, the manual seats are fine. In fact, they are incredibly comfortable and supportive. I love the car.

Bought EV6 Wind AWD 2 weeks ago. Most fun car I ever had. Has tech package. The seat automatically sliding back to help me get in and out is great. Two memory seat positions.
Very fast acceleration in Sport mode.
The main negative is driving in country at night. I need to turn left off the paved road onto our gravel town road. You can see the turn in the headlights at night but by the time I am ready to turn the gravel road has disappeared into the dark. I need to make sure there is no traffic and angle the vehicle into the oncoming lane to get the headlights on the road. If feels unsafe. I had only one other car with this problem, my old Scion.
Another problem is winter driving. There are so many safety features involving braking and steering. When you are driving on Icy roads I often drive in two lanes to try to find some less icy path for driving on. The last thing I want any care to do is brake in this situation. I could easily spin out. i know you can turn all this off but you need to do several things in the menu to achieve this. I could easily forget on of the settings.
One tip, If you want to get this car consider used. The 22 version is almost the same as the newest one. I found a lease return with 17,00 miles but looked like new. The original sticker price was 55,000, I bought it for $34,500. So if had $20,000 depreciation in 24 months. Save your money. We techies want the latest but this choice is fine. Buy a new car in 2 years when the new battery technology is integrated with a lot more range and lower cost.
I definitely like the Wind much better than the GT. More comfortable seating, better range, tech package, 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds.

Matt, great video as usual. As you know, we don’t buy performance cars for efficiency. The GT is phenomenal. The climate/audio controls are customizable so you can choose a default to revert to every time (ie revert to default audio after you switch to adjust climate and vice versa) or leave it at audio or leave it at climate and manually switch back and forth. You get used to the convenience of actually having direct buttons below vs all on screen controls. PS: this beat a M3DMPerf on another channels “u-race”.

Great review Matt! Thanks for giving the GT a one take! Glad to see you "get it" about what makes the GT so special. Little known fact, the designer on the GT is non other than Mr M3 himself, Dr Biermann formerly of BMW fame. The handling definitely shows his influence.
The ride on the GTLine is nothing close to the GT, it is boaty McFloaty. As a performance car guy myself I was disappointed with it immediately.
In regards to GT range, many of us are seeing substantially higher range than the EPA. Def a big miss on the no power seats, the buckets are amazingly comfy, but no memory/power is a big bummer. I got one of the 1st GT's a year ago, love it every day I drive it!

Husband already has '23 Mach-E RWD Extended Range and I'm currently driving a Mazda 3 Turbo Hatch. I'm considering a Genesis G70, but the EV6 GT has also got my eye. My only concern is the range considering we already have one electric car. We're in Dallas area and can charge at home, but that 200 mile range has got me thinking maybe I should stick with the G70 to have one gas car still in the house right now. Thoughts anyone?

The Mustang EV with 200 mile battery dropped tp 110 miles, and the 300 mile battery in 115 heat dropped to 140 miles, and freeway driving will lose another 10%. Ev cars are toys and fine as long as you understand that..they will NEVER replace ICE cars and if they try to do it in California the shit will hit the fan

Oh they absolutely will replace ICE cars eventually, these are just first gen cars with first gen issues. Now whether that happens in our lifetime or not is a question, but ICE eventually will be out. We're getting to see a lot of tech rapidly evolve here which is fun to experience. I just commute in North Dallas 2/3 times a week (work from home primarily now) so the low range on the EV6 GT isn't a big deal either way, can just charge at home. And you can get them used so cheap now, found a couple with 1k-5k miles for 40k, seems like a bargin to get 576hp for 40k if you ask me.@@chadhaire1711

Loved the presentation, odd that you can't get power seats on something at that price point, reckon they should offer a lux pack or something.
I do love the styling and I'm glad it seems it lived up to it, heard from Misha's vid who went to the euro launch that the designers were inspired by the boxy Lancia Delta; I can't quite see it but I definitely see some Pininfarina influence. The efficiency is pretty poor though; that's what's making me think this isn't the electric GTi we are hoping for.
If I had to guess, I think that will deliver on efficiency and sportyness the same way the original GTi did in the 70s. I really hope that's the case but the iD4 is pure dogshit.
For what this is though, man this is a nice little car.
Editing wise I think this needed a bit of music but the silence I found a bit empty. Sonically there's not much to do but unlike some other people, i'm glad you found the chassis interesting enough to make a video on it!

Driving that long without a break is dangerous and almost guarantees you're beat when you arrive.
